Coming from the guy who doesn't understand the significance 3rd down efficiency and YPA for a defense and thinks the current incarnation of the Cowboys is even in a roundabout way comparable to those of the 90s (maybe the late 90s :lmao:).

Please.
Did you say something? I was picking my nose. The booger was more interesting than you are. I flicked it into a the trash can. I can breathe now. You should try it. The difference is I had to pull something out of my nose, you have to pull your head out of a dark, smelly place.

So what is the correlation between 3rd down percentage and winning?

I don't even think you understand what is being argued. What is being argued is whether or not the Colts said they were going pull their starters prior to the game. They never concretely stated that they would do this. Neither you or Hostile can seem to understand that. Maybes, perhaps-es and what-ifs are not "we're going to pull our starters".

I was not shocked when they did because the fact it was talked about by the Colts management if they are making those statements to the press the players knew more than what was being talked about in the media. Did the colts come right out and say it? No but it did not take a mind reader to know what was going on. I posted a comment by Polian the week of the jets game where it was being talked about. Even Rex Ryan knew it and talked about it

It's critical to sustaining drives (you obviously play keep away and change field position when you sustain drives) and scoring points. So I'd say 3rd efficiency goes hand in hand with winning games.

He thinks it happened by a coin flip on the sidelines at the spur of the moment. There was no pre-conceived idea to do this.

Ridiculous.

Evidently so, hell if I knew they were going to pull starters before the game took place I have a feeling the colts players themselves knew they would not be playing the entire game.

Any NFL fan with a brain knew it.

So what's the specific mathematically correlation?

Teams that lead in 3rd down conversion win _____ percent of the time.

For example, teams that allow fewer points than their opponent win 100 percent of the time.

Except when they allow more.

At one point in the season (November), the top 5 teams on 3rd down were 32-8. Assuming that held true, about 80 percent of the time. That's obviously taking a giant leap and I don't like to do that, but I can't imagine the stat changed all that drastically.

Do these Cowboys have a future HOF QB, RB, #1 WR, a good offensive line and a #1 number defense in the NFL walking through that door?
That's next to (but not totally) impossible in the salary cap era.

Miles Austin not a game-breaker? I believe he's a combination of both, can get you the 10 to 20 yard tough catch but can run the deep routes as well. I think Jimmy has been drinking a little too much...
The way I read it was that Johnson feels we need two game breakers at WR and only have one right now.

and which team has all that? I think what Jimmy see is the cowboys have as good of talent as most of the top teams in the league who by the way have some holes in them as well be it the Saints, Vikes, Colts and every other playoff contenders including Dallas.

You mean like you having no concept of the Cowboys defense having an effect on the Cowboys ability to get off the field on 3rd down or allowing a high YPA?

The Cowboys defense ranked fifth in 3rd down conversions.

Now that was an entertaining thread! I really like the fire and passion! Man you guys are bored. I can't imagine if you guys were stuck inside during the frigid northeast winter. I'd like to suit up Monster and Hositile, let'em have at it and settle this the good old fashion way, right in the trenches!
Anybody got predictions on that?

Jimmy Johnson feels like we could be a Super Bowl team in 2010? I feel we can be a Super Bowl WINNER in 2010,2011 and 2012. We need a good draft, we need to develop the '09 draft class and we need one good FA signing within the rules of the 2010 uncapped year. We have a young defense at the core, young backs and and an excellent young QB. It's all a possibility.

If people are awaiting a Cowboys team as talented as the 1990s version, they're going to be sorely disappointed. It may be impossible to assemble a team that talented in the modern era.
