What part of we run the ball just about as well as we did last year despite missing Tony for most of the season don't you understand?

In raw numbers, sure. The running game looks the same on paper.

But in terms of tempo and consistency, part of it being the team's identity, good luck trying to sell that.

The notion that Murray somehow would have reversed the fortunes of this team this year is bizarre. Once Weeden/Cassel went under center, teams could more easily focus on the running game.

Murray looks slow and out of sync in Philly and I suspect he'd look that way here too.

LOL if Murray as still here he would have been in there to block on that 2nd down play where Romo got injured. Thus Romo would probably be NOT INJURED today and this Weeden/Cassell debacle would not be talked about here.

No we dont!! Have you been watching the games? The running game is erratic and insignificant to the Cowboys. It was a huge mistake. They let the leagues leading rusher, one of the leaders on this team walk, and went Joe freaking Randle.

How anybody can say that wasnt a mistake, after what we have witnessed this season, is beyond me.

Randle isnt even in the league. I doubt any other team wants him. Theyt may bring him in for a look see next season, but I doubt he even makes the team. Thats who they decided to trust;

Letting Murray walk so easily without a backup plan was the biggest blunder this off season. When you have something going you to try and break it - which the Cowboys ultimately did. Then they came to the conclusion that a RBBC was going to take care of all their needs. Boy were they wrong.

We might have even been inclined to hand it to Murray.....instead of relying on Romo to win games.

Probably the Eagles would not have blitzed up the middle because of the possibility of a run.

That 2nd down our formation was a dead giveaway that we were going to pass. An empty backfield with slow developing plays invites blitzes all the time.

This has been discussed ad nausea.

Perhaps @percyhoward will be so kind as to post the numbers again.

And again we did this without Romo.

I hardly think Jones gives the pressure of the media a second thought. Unless it hits him square in the pocket book, he is not going to care.

Well that's thing. If Joefan starts to feel hopeless about this team the way the diehards do, it's not as easy for Jerry to sell his snake oil.

Letting Murray go was not a mistake. It's obvious Murray isn't worth $8M a year. Good move by the brass there.

The mistake was thinking Randle would be a viable replacement. To not draft a RB last year was inexcusable.

According to Jerry the team has a lot of talent and Garrett has done a great job so how did that equate to 4-9? If Jerry believes this season is entirely due to Romo going down we're in trouble. The team has been so mismanaged it's ridiculous. The Cowboys spent the offseason talking up Weeden telling everyone how improved he was and ended up having to cut him due to ineffective play. This resulted in having to throw away a draft pick on a QB who's arguably been worse than Weeden.

Despite a few productive games by McFadden the running game hasn't been close to efficient. The Cowboys are currently the worst in the league on 3rd and one and that's where I had my biggest concern entering the season. Not being able to move the chains in short yardage situations put more pressure on the QB position leading to the defense having to spend more time on the field.

Arrogant offseason approach has Cowboys at bottom of NFC

Jean-Jacques Taylor, ESPN Staff Writer

IRVING, Texas -- The Dallas Cowboys find themselves in last place in the NFC East and tied for the worst record in the NFC because they took an arrogant approach to the offseason.
It was easy to do because they finished 12-4 and won the division behind the game’s best offensive line in 2014. DeMarco Murray produced a franchise-record 1,845 rushing yards and Tony Romo had never played better when it mattered most.

And that’s why they believed their own hype.

The Cowboys pride themselves on making decisions collectively, so you can blame the quartet of owner/general manager Jerry Jones, vice president Stephen Jones, head coach Jason Garrett and scouting director Will McClay in any order you choose.

Brandon Weeden the Cowboys’ backup quarterback, because it’s obvious Garrett and offensive coordinator Scott Linehan had zero confidence in Weeden.

They gave him a Pop Warner game plan, then wondered why he didn’t produce before demoting him as starter after three winless starts. Matt Cassel, Weeden’s replacement, was acquired the week Romo broke his collarbone and the Cowboys knew they would need a starter for nearly two months.

Cassel has a 1-5 record as a starter, with five touchdowns, six interceptions and a 73.5 passer rating overall this season. He has flunked a quarterback’s most important job, which is getting the team into the end zone.

The Cowboys have scored one touchdown or less in four of his six starts. Pathetic.
A lot of the Cowboys’ offensive issues besides the obvious absence of Romo can be traced to the team's negotiating tactics with Murray. Clearly, the Cowboys were afraid of his age and his workload, which included more than 400 touches in 2014, so there was no way they were going to give him the five-year, $40 million deal he received from Philadelphia.

Matching Philadelphia’s deal wasn’t the problem. The Cowboys never really gave Murray a legitimate offer until free agency began. Everybody knows that if you allow a player to reach unrestricted free agency, the odds of him returning are virtually nil.

The Cowboys figured their offensive line was so good that even Joseph Randle, released after Week 6, and a running back by committee could get the job done.

They haven’t.

The running game may rank in the top half of the NFL, but it has been unreliable all season. The Cowboys have struggled in short-yardage situations and haven't controlled games with their running game the way they did last season.

The inconsistent running game has affected their ability to be productive with play-action passes and their deep passing game. See, it all works together.

Ignore the stats, which say the Cowboys have rushed for a 4.4 average on 346 carries and Darren McFadden has 798 yards and a 4.2 yards-per-carry average. If you’ve watched the games, you know the truth: They miss Murray -- or somebody like him.

The Cowboys eschewed selecting a runner in the best running back draft in years last spring, but it’s clear they need a starter. McFadden has been solid, but this team needs more than that because it wants a dominant running game.

In the process, the Cowboys have found out this line isn’t so good that anyone can gain 1,300 yards running behind it. You could not convince them of that last spring.

yeah. Post the numbers!!! That will convince me, that the RBBC was a success this year!

In fact, heck, since were desperate now for a RB. Why not bring back Joe Randle and go with DMC next year??? If that had no impact on this years season.

Are you on board with saying, that Joe Randle, and DMC should be the RBs next year? I guess you are, since you are defending the approach we took this season.

YES. Weeden was a big blunder too.

Weeden was probably a bigger blunder, but I think the two are about even. Espeically when you go into the season, after having the leagues leading rusher, with some serious question marks at RB, and not putting more resources and time to the backup QB position.

u know, since, were probably going to ask Romo, who is getting up there in age, to do more, then what we asked him to do in the previous winning 12-4 year. u know, since we are going to do that.....then maybe we need to have a better option then weeden.

Thier mistake was beleiving in Joe Randle\RBBC and Brandon Weeden. They made no adjustments during training camp or the entire off season. They went with it. They were wrong. ---- again.

The only 'arrogant' part of the offseason is that we didn't re-sign Murray. And yet JJT never really explains the problems with signing Murray, coming off a 436 carry season and averaging 3.5 ypc with the Eagles.

What about low balling Dez?
