JJT On Sporting News Radio Today Said It Will Be Norv...

If Jerry is that sold on Garrett as a "rising star", just go ahead and name Garrett the HC for pete's sake. As John Madden told Al Davis when he hired him as a very young coach..."if I can't do it now, I won't be able to do it when I get a few years older."

I completely agree. If Garrett is the future of the franchise, we might as well get it over with and make him the coach over a loser like Turner.

Step was always "stoned" during games...he thought he was a monster! :D

Don't be ridiculous, a stoner couldn't possibly show the aggression needed to play in the NFL...

No, I think you're off-base here... but I'd bet that "water bottle" in his locker was really a bong, with a hit packed and ready for when he came off the field...

Purely for the purpose of glaucoma prevention, of course... a blocker needs his peripheral vision... I'm constantly amazed at the sacrifices these athletes are willing to endure in their pursuit of perfection...

LOL...

Actually, he had probably the best leverage for as small of a lineman that he was...

A brilliant technician indeed, but that's not the whole story; I was actually pretty close to right when I called him a "little ol' smashmouth lineman", he was INCREDIBLY strong for a guy that size...

IIRC, he was a really good high school wrestler too, which of course requires technique and strength...

yes, please! at this point, I'd take just about anyone over Turner

Maybe, someone else said this a while ago too, the press leaking all this news about Turner is just to make the real hire look really good in comparison.

Do those supporting Norv for HC not understand that there are qualites that go into making a successful HC besides Xs and Os?

I'm not being sarcastic or demeaning to anyone, but think about it for a minute. There are definite qualities of leadership that go beyond knowledge of schemes, etc. It's about leading a group of men and an organization and having the respect of everyone on the team and in the organization.

Norv has NEVER had those qualities and now by all accounts he's being brought in to "tutor" the apprentice so Garrett can take over the reins in a year or so. That is a ridiculous plan for running a football team.

If Jerry is that sold on Garrett as a "rising star", just go ahead and name Garrett the HC for pete's sake. As John Madden told Al Davis when he hired him as a very young coach..."if I can't do it now, I won't be able to do it when I get a few years older."

parcells has them "qualities". but only gave dallas a 2 game over .500 record. me i just think a good coach is just one who adapts to the game how its played today. i dont think another 60 yr old coach will do dallas any service as a HC. norv is in his 50's and i dont know if he would either. my first choice would be garrett. i like him, and think he could handle it but most think no.

Tui was already here, he was a converted Defensive tackle from the landry-brandt-tex days. Newton was here also.

Erik williams and larry allen were the only two of that crew drafted when turner got here. The rest were already here. Ron stone was brought in while norv was here, but he was a backup who went to be a starter in ny.

OK, I didn't mean to imply that Jimmy was responsible for bringing all of them in... and I didn't mean to imply that Turner had much of anything to do with the assembly of that line...

I just have hopes that observing what a great offensive line looks like firsthand, Norv will want another one similar to that, and will look for a different sort of offensive lineman than we've been bringing in here lately... saying that, I realize that this will have to be a gradual process, I don't expect radical changes on the line this next season... for now, I'd settle for a new starting right guard, and a little better quality depth... bigger depth...

I have a few friends who are not Cowboys fans, but are convinced that Jones has already hired Turner, behind closed phone lines, and left him in Mobile to scout this week, instead of pulling him for an interview like he did Garrett. Hence the OC hiring perceivably without a HC. My friends/co-workers don't follow the Cowboys the way we do, but sometimes it's easier for outsiders to see the obvious.

I agree with them. But, I have a thought on this weeks interview. We all know Jerry and Norv have been friends for over 15 years. We all know that Aikman, Johnson, Irvin and a few others have thrown their support behind Turner. It seems logical to say that Jerry has already talked to Turner, as he often does, and that this is an interview more about staff than anything else.

Which brings me to what seems to be our biggest problem. Defensive Coordinator. The names have been out there, but I see three real candidates, and that is all. Campo, Bowles and Singletary. Turner is familiar with the last two. Jones is familiar with Campo and Bowles. Therefore, I think the key subject of this weeks interview will be Mike Singletary.

Turner has spent the year with Singletary, and has had plenty of time to get a good read on Single. Basically, Jones will want to know if Turner thinks he is ready to step up to it. I am all for it.

On the positive side, Single has been in Mobile all week, just like Turner. He has had close contact with all the Senior Bowl participants, and is the type of guy who takes zero crap, as was obvious by watching the practices on NFLN.

On the negative, he is inexperienced. Hence, the necessity of the interview.

I expect a Single interview before the end of next week.

This is just my opinion, but it is an educated one. Thoughts?

I really cannot believe the negative reaction to Norv - I really can't. He's a Dallas Cowboy man! as is Garrett! Parcells was not! He never embraced the team / fans /city / media at ALL!
Norv is a pro - he knows the game as does Mr.Ivy League now up in the booth.
As I said before - we need a Class DC, a guy who can revamp this D a guy who can regenerate Fat Roy , who can gt Ware in better position to get 15 sacks. To get Canty & Spears going. That's the concern now.

This Offense could already score...I was really hoping for someone that would have came in and made this defense great...esp considering we have went defense in the first round of the drafts of late.

Exactly. Norv is a leader of offenses, not a leader of men. He would have been perfect to succeed Jimmy in 94, but not 2007. This is what happens when you're stuck.

Most Cowboys fans I would hope care about winning more than they care about giving someone who has failed as a headcoach miserably the Cowboys job simply because he was a good coordinator in dallas over 12 years ago

Norv "The Genius" Turner, brilliant in mediocrity.

Jimma is having his revenge on Jerra.

LM,
I agree about Garrett. I am one that has said Garrett was too young and inexperienced, but given the choice of him or someone else like Norv,(brought in just to tutor him), I say go with Garrett.

Garrett worked with Gruden and Saban the last couple of years, so he has seen first hand a couple of hard a** coaches and how they run the team, the coaches meetings, etc.

all the excitement comes to naught, the blandest coach out there, and we hire him, I'm freakin sick

You seem a good deal more optimistic about life in general than you were a day or two ago... LOL...

Who gives a crap where he is from. If Satan from the firey reaches of hell could win football games, I would be all for him coaching this team.
