JJT On Sporting News Radio Today Said It Will Be Norv...

Has any NFL head coach failed his first two NFL HC jobs and then got his team to the Superbowl on his third attempt? I can't think of any off the top of my head.

With no desire to be insulting, screw that argument... screw ANY argument that starts out "it's never been done before"...

Nobody had ever started a season 0-2 and went on to win a Super Bowl-- until the Cowboys did it...

Nobody had ever won the Super Bowl while having the NFL's leading rusher-- until the Cowboys did it...

Just 'cause it's never been done before doesn't mean it can never be done...

Another good thing about Norv Turner is that he is impressed with Joel Filani.

This statement could be true but not confirmed. I think at least one poster will like it.

Everyone needs to quit crying about Rivera or Ryan. Garrett is basically the coach in waiting, so why would either of them come in now?

The only reason Norv is here is nepotism and the lack of quality alternatives (which is hardly a Norv endorsement). Were Fisher and Cowher on the market, we wouldn't even be sniffing around this guy. Jerry's stuck, and Norv is the result. Just don't put any more lipstick on this pig, 'cause we ain't buying it.

Last time I looked we just parted ways with a guy that had won 2 Super Bowls yet we never won a single playoff game with him...

While I'm not a huge Norv guy, if he's chosen I'll give him a fair shake. I think there's some talent on this team and I'm betting that Norv won't screw it up.

Hell I would have never given you 2 cents for Billichek after what he did in Cleveland...
Are our expectations so low that we as fans should accept a guy because we think he won't screw it up?

Is Norv really a next level candidate? I have serious doubts about that. If he's hired, it comes across as very Campo-ish and I liked him. At least his personality.

hasnt that been the outcome for the last 4 yrs with parcells? and most of u praised him for it. "this team is better then what it was under campo" sound familiar?

No. It's not a bad argument. It's the odds. Monkeys probably haven't flown out of your butt, yet the laws of probability say there is a very small chance of that happening.

The point is that Superbowl rings can work to get players to buy into you as a head coach. Especially someone that has about as much charisma as a toenail.

Norv just doesn't look like a personal that can be the odds, but you are right , there is always the possibility.

Would you be happy with Norv - Garrett - Gary Gibbs?

Gibbs no...can't see why he would leave NO to come to dallas and not make a upgrade in title anyways.

So no...I don't share your man love for Gibbs.

Sorry but I honestly didnt read through the entire 9 pages but how official is Norv really coming here? I thought we were definitely going to make a move for a defensive mind since Jerry showed and talked about his frusterations with the defense and also how we pretty much scored points at will for a majority of the season. Well I was a GROZ / GROP guy so whoever we get "stuck" with will have to do. I belive anyone is worth a shot however since all we have been is OK these past so many years.

When Parcells was first hired, he was acceptable because he was considered a next level candidate. His NFL coaching resume showed that he was a next level candidate due to his ability to rebuild teams and take them to the next level. I would grade his results here as Incomplete. He rebuilt the team, but he wasn't able to take it to the next level.

So yes the team is better than it was when Parcells arrived and is seemingly on the verge of going to the next level. Do you really think Norv can take this team to the next level? I have my doubts.

it's not official at all

but it's looking more and more likely, according to people who follow the team

And what did having perhaps the top "name" coach in the NFL do for us WG?

See, I think the coach is important-- but it's not the "whole". I think we have better talent here than what Norv has ever had available to him.

Just because it's Norv Turner (maybe) doesn't reduce my expectations one bit.

So what was the word on Phillips?

im tired of the defensive mindframe parcells had everybody. that turned out to be how the cowboys played in games too defensive. me i ready for an attacking style of football, not just defensively. but attitude aswell. tired of having this team be soely dedicated to young talent on defense while its stuck with the same aging talent on offense that wears down late.

again like in the past 4 yrs, we as fans complain about the OL every week, but when the offseason comes most all just talk about defense. of the defense needs this and that, and think somehow the OL will be fine. the Ol wasnt fine this yr, it was the presense of owens taking that saftey deep with him.

for this team to be legit, they have to fix that OL first and foremost. thats not going to happen with a defensive minded coach.

I know...I mean no Defensive minded coach every had a good o-line.

No kidding.

We KNOW he's not the best man for the job. This really can't be debated.

-As a coordinator last year, he was not overly successful.

Say WHAT??

You'd best check the record before you go woofin' that nonsense...

Fact-- in 2005, the Niners were dead last in the league in total offense, averaging a ridiculous 224.2 yards per game... in 2006, they averaged 303.8 yard per game...

Fact-- in 2005, the Niners averaged 105.6 yards rushing per game, in 06 they had that up to 135.8 yards per game (sixth in the league)...

Fact-- in 2005, the Niners were dead last in the league in passing, averaging a pathetic 118.6 yards per game... in 06, they had that up to 168.0 yards per game...

Fact-- in 2005, the Niners averaged 14.9 points per game, in 06 they had that up to 18.6 points per game (this with a young QB who has been rushed into action before he was ready)...

Fact-- in 2005, Alex Smith's quarterback rating was a dismal 40.8, he averaged 5.3 yards per attempt, and he threw 11 ints to just 1 TD... in 06, the rating was up to 74.8, the yards per attempt was up to 6.54, he threw 16 TDs and 16 ints...

You're looking at improvement, in many cases significant improvement, in EVERY area of the offense... no, other than their ranking in rushing offense, they weren't one of the league's most potent offenses, but you don't go from the league's worst offense-- by FAR-- one year to a good offense the next... to expect that is completely ludicrous...

Norv Turner did a TERRIFIC job with the 49ers offense last year...

There are plenty of legitimate reasons to be dubious about the hiring, even though I'm a good deal more optimistic than you are, it's really kinda sad you have to go and distort Norv's record last year in your lust to trash him...

Smart move - very smart move....Norv is a good man and good things happen to good people.
NOW WE NEED A TOP FLIGHT DC

I agree with this. I was excited about the Garrett for OC hire. I'm less excited about Norv for HC but it's a safe move and it guarantees our offense is going to be smoking with Jason and Norv engineering the schemes. Now it's either Bowles or a really good coach from another team for DC. The most important appointment of the offseason still has yet to be made.
