How much would a contract cost? What are his PFF ratings this pre-season? Does he have a nagging groin injury and how serious is it?

I think he could help us.

I'm not calling you out but PFF grades and the quality of play you get on the field have zero correlation whatsoever.

If we can get him on a 1-year deal I don't care what he costs. It's not my money and this year's cap is basically spent. And I think he'd do a 1-year deal to re-establish his market value because it's lower now that it could be next March after a good season.

I don't think Carroll is the stiff some do, but Haden is an upgrade if he's healthy. Given our young guys and their current ailments I'd be all over this if I'm Jerruh. BTW, I guarantee we'd pay more than the Chiefs would.

Browns CB Joe Haden will undergo groin surgery after the season.

The surgery will address the two groin injuries he suffered this year. Haden will play the final two games of the regular season but will obviously be doing so at less than 100 percent. The former All-Pro selection has graded out as PFF's 104th-best corner out of 121 qualifiers this year.

That puts him on track to play Sunday against Seattle. Carroll has struggled mightily this year, earning PFF's 14th-worst cornerback grade out of 116 qualifiers. Teammate Jalen Mills is dead-last.

For the record I am not a fan of bringing Carroll in either. They both suck.

Honestly citing PFF grades as a basis for or against anything is beyond ignorant.

he was on the Browns since 2010, that's a pretty good stretch I'd say in NFL terms. People could say Newman couldn't keep a job with the Cowboys and he went on to have several pretty good seasons post Dallas. Not saying we should go all out for him but Cleveland is certainly in rebuild mode and him being cut doesn't necessarily mean he's trash

Now THAT is how you improve your defense in one off season. Rookies arent going to do much.

I think that the Cowboys would have two advantages if Haden were to sign a one-year deal:

One, he could sign with a team that was a 13-3 Super Bowl contender last year that looks to be a young team on the cusp of greatness.

Two, is there a higher profile team for a player looking to get noticed for a future contract?

Bottom line this guy is gonna get a lot of offers and the bidding war is not gonna land a good deal for the team. Pass.

At the right price, with a thorough look over, I think he'd make a heckuva bridge player on a one year deal.

A win-win where he gets to reinvent himself and improve his stock for another multi-year deal and the Cowboys buy a year for Awuzie, Lewis, and White/Duke Thomas to gain a year of experience with the team.

Pass on him and I do not want to hear whining that Cowboys missed out on him, Cowboys should be fine at cornerback

If it's a multi-year deal he's looking for with big money?

I'd pass too.

But I'm interested in a one-year deal for both parties.

He's been awful for two years. Maybe injury related. Maybe "being on the Browns" related.

But he probably isn't the guy you all remember.

It sure sounds to me like he's damaged goods and we have more than enough of those already.

If the Cowboys are ok spending the max that they're comfortable with they could likely do better.

They likely can't do better at this time. You likely won't find a CB right now cut that has the upside of Haden.
