Joe Theismann: Any GM who trades for Tony Romo's 'damaged goods' should lose his job

Former Commanders quarterback Joe Theismann has said for months that Tony Romo should quit football. So it's not shocking that Theismann, who led Washington to a Super Bowl win in his 12 years with the team, thinks the guy he deems fragile isn't leaving Dallas.

"Let's put this Tony Romo stuff to bed, OK?" Theismann told Bleacher Report Radio. "The man's had three back surgeries, he has a collar bone that's been broken twice, he's 36 years old, he plays behind - the last couple years he played behind probably the best offensive line in football [and] hasn't finished a season in the last five.

"Any general manager that would make a deal for Tony Romo shouldn't keep their job as general manager. It's a bad business decision plus what offensive line is going to be the same one he has in Dallas?

Actually Luck was drafted because Manning was a health risk and had a cap hit of 35 Million for the coming year.

No. Luck was drafted because he was the best player in the draft that year at the most important position in the draft. Indy would have drafted him no matter what and they would have traded Manning as soon as Luck was ready to play. It had zero to do with the injury.

No, if Manning was 100% healthy and on an affordable salary the Colts would have traded the pick. Just like the Titans did this year.

Child please......there are a dozen teams that would want Romo....you don't give away first round picks for nostalgia

LOL.... You confused. Perhaps you have children, perhaps you are one, but I am not your child. How can you make that statement and then expect anybody to give credence to any other statements?

The nice thing about this is that we will soon see what "A Dozen" teams do and so we are clear, there may be a dozen teams but the statement was that Tony could make any team he joins an instant playoff team. That's just no true and no amount of wishing is going to make it true. I like Tony but I am kidding myself about what or where he is right now. You are worth what the market values you at. Tony is not valued as a transcending player in this league. At his very best, he was not viewed as such. That's just our fan base seeing things that are not there.

LOL... If he was 100% healthy and on an affordable salary? Well tell me, when would that EVER be the case? When would Payton Manning be 100% healthy and be affordable?

And by the way, the Titans drafted their future QB 2015. Had they not drafted their QB in 2015, they most certainly would have last year and they never would have made that trade.

Please, just stop.

Manning had 4 great years in DEN..........DEN couldn't believe they only had to pay Peyton and DWare to come and join their SB level teams and not also give up picks or players......DAL and IND screwed up letting those guys walk for cap relief alone.......the cap can be manipulated but top players should never be cut

You have absolutely positively ZERO clue on how these things work and you only spread your confusion when you post.

You seriously think Bill Polian wouldn't have tried to maximize his return if the team would have been able to recoup some picks? You seriously think that?!? You think Jerry did that with Ware??!

Manning was contractually due a $28 million bonus with the Colts. That made no sense for other teams...probably not even workable for teams. And why would a GM offer premium picks and pick up an obscene tab only to acquire limited player control?

Teams just waited Irsay out. The Broncos ended up paying Manning $15 million per year with no draft picks lost.

This is correct. Pairing Von Miller on one side with Ware on the other is what made that defense take off. Denver was smart in it's FA work, bringing in Ware, Manning, Talib, etc.

We let a HOF DE walk and got nothing for him. Still burns me to this day.

As for Ware...the guy was due a $16 million cap hit for 2014.

What was Ware's value? He ultimately signed for $10m per season with the Broncos.

Ware was *not* a $16 million dollar player. He wasn't remotely tradeable with that contract. Jerry didn't leave anything on the table.

Players aren't traded. Players/Contracts are traded. A good player with a horrible contract becomes untradeable.

No, he wasn't. The only Pro Bowl QBs right now are Brady, Cam, Palmer, Rodgers, Roethlisberger and Wilson. All the rest sat home. Tony has been a Pro Bowler but he isn't now and he wasn't last year.

The end of your statement contridicts the beginning. You should pursue a career in politics. lol.

Tony Romo was selected to the Pro Bowl 4 times. Yes, you're correct, he was not selected last year.

"Child please" is clearly a tip of the cap to Chad Johnson.

Not true. 2016 the last Pro Bowl played, those 6 played in it. None of those QBs were named Romo. Be careful here, discussion of politics is not allowed. Familiarize yourself with that before you get yourself in dutch.

Please stop? Let me think...

"Just stopping" means I agree with you that Indy would have paid 35 Million dollars, or 29% of their entire salary cap, to a player with a major injury.

So no, I'm not going to stop.

Romo's Cowboys contract for next season will be among the top ten in the league.

Anyone who thinks there are 12 GMs out there able and willing to pay $28 million for a 37-year old quarterback that has (maybe!) 50-50 odds of staying healthy...and that will ALSO give us a premium draft pick...

...is one silly child.

And in the case of bkight13 a silly, petulant child.
you have no idea how contracts work.......please go back to Adam Univ and get a refund

Of course you are not, but what they were paying or not paying Manning was never going to make a difference in them taking Luck. Go ahead, try and explain it to everyone and see what you get.

these experts act like contracts can't be renegotiated........Manning and Ware took a lot less from DEN......they could have worked something out
