Joe Theismann: Any GM who trades for Tony Romo's 'damaged goods' should lose his job

That statement is nonsensical on its face. Romo was hurt most of 2015 and was hurt this year in 2016. Hard to make Pro-Bowl when you're hurt. Romo was absolutely Pro-Bowl in 2014 and played
All-Pro in December of that year. Oh, by the way...Rodgers has sucked this year.

Right, but that's kinda the point yeah? You use the term Pro Bowl QB, to justify teams giving up a 1st Rd pick or paying big money but he's not really a Pro Bowl QB anymore is he? You can't use Pro Bowl as justification but then turn around and take issue with somebody because the point out the obvious. Was Tony a Pro Bowler, of course. Everybody understands this but that doesn't mean anything anymore. That's what the point of that statement is.

It only takes one.

This is true, but if there is only one, does it make sense for only the one to pay a premium price? If there is only one, then it is logical to assume that that one would leverage that position and pay less. Would you not agree?

Seems that there are GMS that should already lose their jobs, so why not trade a premium pick for Romo before they leave town!

LOL!!!!!! The most sensible, logical, easily the smartest thing that has been said in this whole thread IMO.

nicely done Joe Rod.

Well tony may stay as bkup, or as a coach, or he may get with another team, and I figure a contract based on games played.
That way if he gets hurt they dont pay much for games missed.
I think he can still play , and he will try. He has had some freakish back injurys, and I dont really count the carolina injury,
as the bone wasnt healed properly.
only the collarbone caused him to miss a lot of games.

I dont think anyone cares what joe says lol

Just look around at all the GMs and owners, and see what geniuses they are. Some genius out there will decide to roll the dice, provided Tony would play for them. Most players are dragged screaming into retirement, or will do so only when they have been to the promised land. I'd wager he plays next year for someone - won't speculate who.

Lots of hyperbole here. There is no way anyone knows for certain he is the same player after so many injuries.

Right, and theres no way to count him out either. Its a blanket statement and its moronic. Trade for what is the question. How much would a team be willing to gamble for a short term answer?

Edit: just to clarify, Im not calling your response moronic.

I wouldn't close my eyes on Rodgers just yet. The season is a long season.

Manning was better but not healthier, he was a bigger injury risk that Romo. And he signed for 5/96 with 58MM guaranteed, I don't see how that adds up to 15MM per.

Mannings contract with the Broncos was 18/15/15/15...averages out to 15 and change... 15.8 or so.

Teams and agents talk offline constantly, they don't make formal offers but Dallas knows who is interested from back channel communications.

What a treat that we've got you to report for us on all that secret back channel communication.

He is right. No GM is trading anything for Tony. Tony is at the end and couldn't get through a preseason game.

Exactly. This is why I'd even just take a 7th round pick just to get rid of his god awful contract.

People have these colored roses glasses on here and think he really has a lot of value left. He doesn't. He's damaged goods.

If romo is willing to play for something like $10-$12 million base plus incentives I expect him to be the starter somewhere.

It would be quite a profitable year for him and his family as he'll also be collecting a massive check from Jerry. $30-34 million total could be headed his way, though I won't be entirely surprised if he takes the final Cowboys check and hangs it up.

I see Joe is still hurting from T-day loss. Man Dallas is shaking out all haters.

Tony Romo went 12-3 in 2014. He went 3-1 in 2015.

Almost the exact same team from 2014 (and obviously the same in 2015) went 1-11 without him...

He makes any team he plays for a playoff contender. You put him on a team like Kansas City, Denver, NYJ, Houston... and you're probably super bowl bound.

Wow!
There is so much in there, and this shovel is old and fragile.

no ****...he doesn't want the Cowboys to fleece someone for their number one pick

You don't have to get out of the contract......DAL can simply walk away.....they owe him 0 guaranteed dollars

Plus his contract was one of the best contracts a team has ever signed with a ProBowl QB

There is zero medical evidence that suggests Romo is more susceptible to spinal injury than any other player. His two back injuries were completely unrelated. The first was transverse process injury, which entailed fractures of two bones on the exterior of the spine, and the second was a compression fracture of an actual vertebra, an injury which when completely healed presents no added likelihood of re-injury. I don't know about his collarbone. He re-injured the left one last year before it was completely healed, but he had surgery this offseason to reinforce the bone.

But I know people are going to believe what they want to.

They sure are. And some will actually believe what has happened rather than what they wish would happen.

Because despite "zero medical evidence", Romo has been injured and reinjured again and again.

And unlike some people, I can deal with that fact.

Go back and watch video from recent years...when "healthy"
-Tony barely even walk normally in Thanksgiving games
-It's been widely reported that he doesn't sit during flights for fear his back will stiffen or spasm
-In a 2014 Commander game he was having a herniation that was causing numbness down his leg
-The injury in the preseason game with Seattle? Romo doesn't get hurt on that as a younger player.

Romo was maybe the best at the league in beating a free rusher coming at him. He can't move like that now.
