I wouldn't be shocked if we gave him a minimum, no guarantees contract full of little things that contractually let us cut him loose whenever the **** we want. Just seems like fate to me.

Let's just thank the staff for telling Jerry 'no' two years ago.

I agree. Spending that pick on him just to have him behave like this would have been disastrous. Giving him a minimum contract, with maybe some show-me incentives, is the only way to go. If we sign him and he immediately acts out, then you cut him and move on.

That means that Dallas has to have a plan in place for him for that probability by bringing in another backup.

Now, it's apparent a lot of people here will be up in arms if he is signed, but I see no need to hand-wring over it if Dallas is just seeing if it can get something for nothing. Again, the contingency has to be that the Cowboys don't make him their only backup plan.

It is weird that they say CLE can't cut him until March because they don't have the cap space. I know they finished 2015 with over 20m in room and are a projected 38m under the 2016 cap. Maybe they have already committed the 20m to rollover and are stuck in that year end limbo.

I don't know when the rollover officially happens but I know that teams can't make any moves during SB week.

Who in the world are they paying big money too on that team?ha

Yeah, and those people are idiots.

Folks are delusional if they think Jerry wants any part of this clown

I agree. As for Jerry I just hope he gives it a lot of thought before doing something like signing Manziel.

I'm sure everyone who talked Jerry out of drafting Manziel will talk him out of signing him. I don't think it will be that hard to convince him although Jerry does love bringing attention to his team even if it's sometimes negative attention. Manziel has so much star power the last time he got pulled over for drinking under the influence the officer had Manziel sign his breathalyzer.

If Dallas does offer him a deal, i hope it is structured something like this:

3 years, $7.5 million

Year 1: Vet minimum plus $1 million incentive (must be on roster for 16 games in 2016)

Year 2: Vet minimum plus $2 million incentive (must be on roster for 16 games in 2017)

Year 3: Vet minimum plus $3 million incentive (must be on roster for 16 games in 2018)

That way he's paid each year for behaving well enough to remain on the team beyond any on-field contributions he might make.

I want to make it clear that I'm not advocating signing Manziel. Frankly, he hasn't shown enough in his two years to make me think he'll ever be special. However, I'm not going to groan and moan if Dallas does as long as the team is smart about it.

I don't think it took too much to talk Jerry out of it. After all there is not much time on the clock on draft day and speculation heading into draft day was Dallas may take Manziel.

I would hope that if he were to be signed it would be a very short leash, 1 mess up and you are out of here. I just hope it does not come to this and Dallas not waste time on this moron

Absolutely we sign him.

He costs us nothing and fills a major need. Oh, and the owner of the team hasn't stopped talking about him since the draft.

We rolled the dice on someone with a far worse rep than Manziel.

I'm OK with the risk. But I would NOT let Manziel stop me from drafting a QB.

Jerry will though

If the organization is stupid enough to sign this kid at this time, they deserve whatever comes their way.

I'm trying to get in the whiskey-soaked brain of Jerry of why he would want JM:
  • he's from Texas
  • he's from Texas A&M
  • he's a Heisman winner
  • "I hope, really hope there is a diamond in that cow chip"
What many of us are thinking:
  • his off-field incidents keep TMZ and ESPN in business
  • 2 years in the NFL and he's done nothing
This is typical Jerry-thinking - the first list is more important than the second list....with any other GM they would give all the weight on the second list.

CFL is up north there Johnny boy!

You know that's an excellent option for him. Much like Doug Flutie went up there and proved he could play it would be a league pretty well suited to his skill set and if he gets himself together somebody would take a chance on him to get back in the NFL.

As of now he's not even tradeable in my opinion.

Doug flutie is half the size but twice as good as Manziel will ever be.
