Joining the Army...

Yeah I've been running. Got myself up to about 2 miles now. Not great, but a helluva lot better then the 1/4 mile I started off at. :D

Graduation is in May. If you're birthday is in June (or after graduation) then 1992-1974 still equals 18, but you'd have graduated at 17. ;)

Yeap :D

I think BamC is open but it's been so long since I was there I can't remember. Beautiful city and base. You're going to be busy.

I was an Officer in the Army but I was an enlisted Marine during the Vietnam era. I was a grunt but actually was a MP.

A son-in-law is supposed to go in the Army soon. He asked me which service to go in. I told him the Army was ok if he got training in a field he could use after discharge. A rifleman can't do a lot in civil life although I certainly respect their duty as highly as any other serviceman. So I told him if I had to do it over again as an enlisted serviceperson I'd join the Navy then the Air Force next. No Army or Marines for me again. Navy bases are generally in great places and ship time is not bad esp if you can get to overseas ports. And the training there has more opportunities for civil careers IMO.

Think about it hard man. Don't let them gloss over important things promising you anything and everything. Get it in writing. Don't let the bonus be the biggest thing guiding you. And three vs four years is not that big a deal. I know you didn't ask for advice but I wish someone had talked with me beforehand even though I wouldn't have listened.

"Concede" has nothing to do with it.

I was born 2 years earlier and graduated 1 year earlier than you. I was held back 1 year.

Need help figuring it out?

Don't piss me off, Stephen. I'll kick your fat arse next time I see you. :D

If you can survive two-a-days in Laredo (110 degrees,) you can survive in NC, but then again you are an old fart:laugh2:

don't forget the side straddle hop! this is gonna be a great experience. The Army teaches teamwork so remember last is first! Even though you may net get along w/ other soldiers remember you might need help later on. You will be a member to a new family. The largest and best gang/military in the world.

Something you will NEVER forget from basic training...

These guys have it easier than we did.

They took us in a room that was completely closed. Made us run around in circles, do jumping jacks before taking our masks off so we were breathing heavy and then would ask us a bunch of questions.

By the time you got out you could not see anything, your face and hands burned and you had snot hanging down to your knees.

Fun times.:D
