A 4.1 average makes Jones a good back. I didn't say he's special. Tomlinson is special. If you can get me one of those, I'll take it.

You know nothing about football and/or you don't watch the Cowboys. Anyone calling what Jones has done this year good is either ignorant or dumb.

The overall picture isn't that his season average is 4.1 that doesn't tell you what type of runner he is right now. Have you even watched any of the last 9 games. We can see what kind of runner he is a bad one. And yes you are totally defending him.

No, it tells you what kind of runner he is overall.

I've watched the games and I've seen some good and some bad. I've also seen the ability to excel, but things that need correcting. Apparently you are seeing all bad.

Thanks for the insults ... it makes it easy to understand that you have no argument so have to resort to this kind of tripe.

To hell it does... He has sucked for 9 games been decent for 5, there is more bad than good.

Oh Gawd you're pathetic. The bottom line is you are wrong, you know you are wrong, and you are either to proud or dumb to admit it. That's ok though. I understand you have invested in a JJ jersey and his rookie cards and possibly his bobble head and you don't want to give up on the pipe dream that you have been duped be a flash in the pan.

I wanted Jones to succeed the bottom line is that he hasn't. He had a great second half his rookie season, and I was hyped, he sucked last year and aside from the first 5 games has been just as bad this year.

Actually, he has sucked in three games, been decent in six and very good in five.

You couldn't have possibly watched any of the last 9 games if you are coming here with "He averages 4.1 yrds per carry that proves he is a good back" crap. He has been awful, I mean awful the last 9 games, aside from ONE play.

He lacks vision, toughness, intellegence, intensity and power. He doesn't follow blocks, he gets taken down by arm tackles, he runs into the backs of his lineman for cripes sake when the hole is just a yrd away. I can see the hole, but the guy running with the ball can't. There is something wrong with that picture.

MBIII should be starting and should be getting most if not all of the carries, time to put JJ on the bench.

I can't believe so many Cowboys fans are being so hard on Jones when he is a STARTING running back averaging over 4 yards a carry.

Yes, Barber is averaging more as a backup, but all I've ever desired is a starter breaking the 4-yard mark. A thousand yards can be very misleading, but usually yards per carry can tell you whether your starter is being successful overall or not. (Although yards per carry for a backup can be more skewed by a few long runs.)

If Jones was averaging under 4, I could understand the uproar. But at 4.1, I think he has shown he deserves more respect than he's getting. Go back and look at the great Emmitt's career numbers — he only averaged more than 4.2 yards per carry (twice) in four of his 15 seasons.

this just me but I will take Emmitt over JuJo anyday of the week and about 4 quarters on Sundays!!!

do everyone a favor and compare Emmits first 3 years to JuJo's otherwise dont compare JuJo to Emmitt... its just sad!

the RBs job is to make the life of the QB easy on 3rd down... produce more 3rd and 1s or 2s. Witha 4 YPC average JuJo should do this on a regular basis, I dont have to google the stat... I know he doesnt do this very often!

OK, I'll give you four. Him averaging 58 yards per game over that stretch wouldn't have anything to do with less carries now would it?

Emmitt averaged 3.9 his first year, 4.3 his second and, I think, 4.7 his third.

This is in no way a comparison between Smith and Jones' running ability. Jones has a lot to prove, but if he can finish this season averaging over 4 yards a carry, then I'm happy about that. Again, that's my measuring stick for a starting running back.

Using a skewed stat as your measuring stick for what a good back is, when the evidence is right in front of you each and every week, is foolish

No what is foolish is not looking at the big picture. If you expect a back to produce on every play in every game, then you're in for a lot of disappointment.

Yes, Jones has had some bad games, but a starting back's success is cumulative. As I've said, Julius' numbers show he is a good back, not great, but good.

I am looking at the big picture, there is a pattern to his ineptness. He was inept last year and it spilled over to more than half of this year.

I don't expect him to produce on every play, just be consistent. I never expected him to be the next Tony Dorsett or Emmitt Smith. I just expected him not to suck...

Jones has had far more bad games than good games, his number show he is an average to below average back, nothing more.

If thats your measturing stick, thats fine.

But doesnt it concern you then that while in 4 of the first 5 games this year he actually did average 4+ YPC (the other game was 26/100), in the 9 games since he's only broke 4.0 in 1 of them?

So it went from 4 out of 5.... to 1 out of 9.

Flip flop that and then I'm sure we all have something different to talk (argue) about.

;)

The great Edgerin James has been quiet this year as has Cadillac Williams and stat wise aside from the hype Reggie Bush is not breaking away as a runner.

Reggie Bush... is the most dangerous runner in the NFL right now.

Anybody can break away for long runs. Reggie Bush will make you miss. Whether he he gains an inch or a yard... if he can sidestep you and make you miss, he creates holes to get into.

Bush doesn't have to break away from a gang of tacklers to hurt you. He's so omni-dimensional as a runner. He can jump over you, lateral it back, juke, or straight run over you. Not to mention his skills in the slot. If you have to cover him, Lord help you.

The Saints should try his hand on defense. He'd probably be as resourceful as Deion Sanders.

Honestly, the only games of great concern to me are the ones where he averaged in the 2 yard-per-carry range. I don't think it's realistic to expect him to average over 4 yards a carry in every game because he's not yet a great back and possibly will never be.

I don't like the trend of late, but considering that Jones is a "home run" back, less carries could easily be contributing to that.

Also, thank you for being civil in your disagreement. I don't understand why some people have to be a jerk when they disagree with you.
