Did you expect more out of Mo Claiborne, Brandon Carr, Bruce Carter, etc?

Kiffin's scheme won't make bad players look better than they are, the way other more smoke-and-mirrors schemes can, but, it's always been successful when it's been implemented with good talent. The upside of it is that it's always been less prone to breaking down because of excessive complexities. Defense requires good talent from top to bottom. You can't cover weaknesses with talented stars the way an offense can.

Bruce Carter was legitimately disappointing, but he took longer than other guys to learn Rob Ryan's scheme too. Linebackers have complicated responsibilities in Kiffin's scheme. I expect him to be better next year. Claiborne was hurt and inconsistent the same as he was the year before. Carr was inconsistent, but earlier in the season he was playing lights out.

The bottom line is Dallas has had Mike Zimmer, Wade Phillips, Rob Ryan, and now Monte Kiffin as defensive coordinators. I defy anyone to find a more impressive list for any other franchise. But, the results have always been mixed. The defense always collapses late in games and late in the season. Either Dallas/Fort Worth is some sort of Bermuda Triangle for defensive knowledge, or the problem is something else. My money is on the latter. This team has not had consistently good depth on its defense since the early '90s, and incidentally that's the last time the defense was worth a crap.

I got a feeling the 2014 season will be all time bad for Dallas. At least the 1-15 season you could see some good times coming down the road with a young franchise qb. This has all the makings of a 3 win team right here. The Head Coach is going into a Lame Duck season and your starting qb is trying to recover from back surgery. You have no cap space and can only rely on the draft to improve from last season. Which means you have to at least hit on four picks in the draft. I won't even get into the schedule we have next year.

You can't blame injuries and then fire the guy whose unit was most beset by injuries two years in a row.

From a consistency standpoint, this is the right move. From an improvement standpoint, we can only hope.

Not when they're playing behind Hayden, Selvie, Everett, Nevis, Wynn, etc.

This defense is driven by the DL. When they play 17 DL throughout the season and half of them were hired off a couch somewhere, it is no surprise that the defense was all-time bad.

Is this board going to line up behind the company line again this offseason? Kiffin just needs better players?

If I'm going to ask a man to build a team I have to provide the talent. Why it's even a issue is what surprises me.If that's company line,so be it.I think he and Marinelli did a remarkable job as devastating as it was.I do expect a big change from bottom of the NFL to above middle and if that's not the case then that's a different situation.

Again why that's not obvious is perplexing.

I know it would cost Jerry money to fire everybody and pay a whole new staff, but honestly, how does he expect the team to be any different next year?

I am really looking forward to the draft.

In 2015.

When we have a little glimmer of hope that comes along with our new coach and top 10 draft pick.

Romo goes down early and we're gunning for #1. That's how 'good' this team is.

They traveled to the Senior Bowl!

Everyone knew this a week ago...

Those words carry so much irony (isn't every day a "senior bowl" for kiffin?).....I hear that kiffin didn't travel with team as he got confused and got into the bus for the local casino with his cup of quarters...the bus driver had a helluva time getting that walker up the steps

I think he is going to fire JG at the end of next season and therefore doesn't want to make moves for just one season.

Part of that plan also is him accepting the thought of going through the bad/losing season to get a high '15 draft pick...
