Jordan Schultz: My sense is LVE and Donovan Wilson will likely have new homes in 2023

LVE was great in 2022 but feel we can get coach up a guy to fill that role. He's gonna be very expensive and wants the bag.
That’s my problem. I’d love him back on a modest deal. But I can’t overpay him

Really concerned with the direction the team is taking. I think there’s a pretty good chance we see fewer wins next season.
this isn't an indictment of MM but yeah...just because we stand to lose players via free agency and the tag will further hurt us. I think a 9 win season might be what we see. We will be awfully young, then a different scheme as well. Its not feasible to expect 20 to be fully healthy. That is a big worry.

exactly. Thats why I think MANY are forgetting that Linebacker is a bigger need in the draft than we think. We are already thin there.

Or draft another more proven workhorse back.
yep. Draft a guy, sign a cheap FA and give Malik Davis a chance. Nuthin wrong with that. Devin Singletary might get cut and might be a guy we can sign on a cap friendly deal. He would be a fit with the new scheme. Giving 1 guy, THATS HURT, 10 mil is damn risky and a bit foolish.

If they replace LVE then whoever fills it needs to understand the ENTIRE defense and where people line up

that was LVE biggest strength...without him you clearly seen people being confused on assignments and not being lined up properly

I could argue he was the most important part of the defense last year

My opinion on Wilson, was it him or Quinn's use of him.
Great on the blitz, but it wasn't like he was a ball hawk. I am not sure about his pass coverage, was it good or average or under whelming?

Could another player be plugged in?

I prefer he is here, but at what cost?

LVE, he will test the market and see his value. Will he give calls a chance to match. If not, at least bring a possible comp pick, depending any offset signings.
I also would be fine if he stays.
Quinn is really good at using players to get the most out of them. Barr and Fowler were decent contributors this year because Quinn used them at what they do best.
I’d love to keep Wilson but it’s all about the cost

Depending on price, these are the guys you should try to re-sign at a good rate 6-8/year

sign Wagner if LVE walks. That fixes that quickly, if anything for 1-2 years and much cheaper. Easy fix.

Lets say we dont resign LVE - all of a sudden the LB room is a humungous concern.

Barr is absolutely done, shouldn't be on the team.

Clark to me showed very little - was way too tentative - yes I know he's coming back from injury and missed camp but dayum he didn't look good.

Cox - know what happened to him but he couldn't get any real playing time.

That real bad, so you almost gotta sign Wagner and draft a LB.
I'm wondering if Wagner is in the cards with Quinn

I’ll be so mad if we let him go finally a good safety
So you want to pay him 15 million per year? The guy has been on the team for 4 years and this is the first time he balled out like this. Lots of guys look good in a great defense. Gotta know who to keep and who to let go. We also have a nice young prospect behind him.

Giving up on Clark is laughable. Great prospect. I do agree with need another as I would love to see LVE punted.

I would have no problem with a LB in the first or 2nd.

I would love for Dallas to resign Wilson but I do believe he's going to get at least 8-10 Million on his next deal with the numbers he put up last year. Cowboys could continue to roll with Hooker at FS and Kearse at SS with Markquese Bell & Isreal Mukuama providing depth.

Far as LVE goes, Unless he wants to sign a 2-4 Million dollar deal, I would seek other options. Better yet, see what Clark or Cox could do other than be unknowns on the bench while on their rookie contracts. Quin needs to know if these dawgs can hunt or not. If not, we need to give them the pink slip and find ones who can hunt.

But would you pay 8 for LVE? Or just get Wagner for the same
I'd be shocked if Wagner went that cheap to be honest. He signed a 5/50 w/ 20 guaranteed last offseason, had a great year and the cap has gone up.

I'd give 8 for LVE in a heartbeat, more so depending on guaranteed money and the number of years. I'd do a 2/15 type contract for him and not think twice.

I think LVE would be a huge loss. Who in the LB group is going to make the defensive calls and get the defense lined up correctly? Cox couldn't even make the active roster and Clark has 398 career snaps. You'd be hard pressed to ask a rookie to come in and do that. You could sign a vet like Bobby Wagner, but is 33 year old Wagner even an upgrade anymore over LVE? This just seems like it's opening up another hole in the defense and that it goes against the grain of the "Building through the draft" blueprint that's been touted by the front office.
