Randle could make it through training camp with 20 carries per, but we'll have to wait and see.

scouting report says "Powerful Back". Really? I dont see him as a power back at all.... a good change of pace scat-back.... If he can hold up, and gets the carries, he can be productive.....

Murray and the Oline created an attitude. An Identity for the Offense.

I like Randle and think he will do better this year, but I look at him the way I did Marion Barber III. Very good in a role that highlights his talents, but a guy that will break down if he has to carry the rock 20 times a game.

I think Barber broke down at 20+ carries a game because he was looking for contact on just about every run. Randle doesn't have that running style.

I haven't see too much evidence that Randle can be "powerful" as in pushing the pile forward, but I think I remember a number of times where he dragged a guy a few yards after the tackle was initiated. Not a bruiser, but not always going to go down on first contact either. Considering his wiggle and decent elusiveness, I think his running style is in line with someone who can toke the rock 20 times a game.

Can't wait for the season to start!

I do not consider a physical back one that runs people over, if that was the case Brandon Jacobs was a physical back but he wasn't. I consider a physical back a back that can handle contact does not shy away from it. Dunbar is not a physical back randle can handle taking contact he may not bowl people over but he does fight for yards.

Actually I think you said it better than I could.

Never saw Randle play in college did you?

I saw his highlights and I admit I didnt see him play in college. However, his not playing college anymore. Its like saying Murray can run a 4.3.

I hope he does well. But I have my doubts. IMO he is nothing more than a change of pace running back.

Same here, another difference between MBIII and Randle is that Barber had already taken a serious pounding by the time they tried to make him a feature back. Like I said, I do like Randle and think he will contribute a lot - but I'm still really hesitant to have the team depend on him carrying the ball full time. And someone said in this thread that he would have a lot less than 20 carries per game in a committee, but I really look at him in the 3rd down back role as "ain't broke, don't fix it".

We can discuss carries, yards, and TDs all day....however, this is my concern....

In fairness to Randle, this was only a month into his rookie season. He may have improved in this area. I do hope he has, as pass protection is big for a RB, obviously. With that said though, I can see McFadden being on the field on 3rd downs since he excels in pass protection.

True, but if the above-posted video is indicative of Randle's current pass protecting ability (it probably isn't, but still), it might be best if he's not on the field on 3rd downs going forward. But maybe this video was an anomaly.

Are you talking about Randle? Because I cant recall ever him breaking a tackle. Sure he has wiggle and elusiveness. But were talking breaking tackles for more yardage.

Yes. Joseph Randle actually led the league in average yards after contact. 4.2 yards after contact per rush. I'm gonna hazard that there were some broken tackles in there.

Also led the NFL with 22% of his runs going for 10 or more yards.

DMC will be the starter....

He certainly has the talent, measurables, and pedigree to be the starter here. I think it's going to be really interesting to see how McFadden and Randle compare in camp. Probably the most intriguing positional battle to me. I just hope that he can stay healthy. If Randle ends up winning the starting job, I hope it's because he actually won, and not by default because of a DMC injury.

I'd be interested to see how Randle's stats compare to others backups around the league who have had a similar number of opportunities.

Lots of people point out Randle's limited sample size when comparing stats like YPC against other RBs who had many more carries, and that is certainly a valid point. But I'd wager that if you were to compare the numbers of all RBs who had a similar number of carries last season, JR would probably still be at or near the top.

Sorry to say this but Im not sold on Randle. To say that he is a physical back is nothing more than a farce. I have never seen Randle run over anyone. I hope he does well and rushes for over 1,000. But I have my doubts.

Randle is nothing more than a change of pace back that benefited from Murray consistently pounding the defense into submission. We have no runningback right now on the team that can do that especially not Randle.

Then you clearly didnt bother to watch tape of him during college. Although hes NOT as physical as Murray, he can certainly handle the load. He had 18 TD's his final year in college and has a nose for the endzone. Unlike Murray, Randle will be running away and around people, not into them. Randle has great vision and he actually has moves in the open field. Unlike Murray. Enjoy your crow when it comes.
