Is this the guy you wanted to start? Randle is not dependable. Its time to trade him.

That's quite a defensive tone you're taking for someone that claims to not engage in recreational marijuana usage. And for the record, you've not seen me make such a claim so don't be so quick to judge.

quick to judge?...that's what you were doing...and I'm not defensive on it. By you saying that you are accusing me and anyone else that claims they don't smoke.
Well I don't, so don't judge me either.

i generally am player-friendly.
and i take talent over lack thereof every day of the week.

all that said...

whether weed and it's semi-legal status is worth a release is HARDLY the issue.

the issue is Randle is pretty clearly stupid.
i agree that lots of people smoke weed.
they also almost NEVER get arrested for it.
it is fairly hard to actually get arrested for weed.

you have to have some kind of special stupid that draws the police into an area where you left it.

randle having basically snitched on teammates and thrown them under the bus was terrible form.
using poor judgment and escalating arguments with his babies momma to the point police come while you have illegal substances in the room is just full on stupid.
and it is hard to fix stupid.

weedheads want to make this about lifestyle but it really isn't.
it is about IQ.
randle had MILLIONS of dollars at stake and was too dumb to care.

Even if you can't rely on him as a potential starter at any point, he's still a young, capable RB at a position where your starter is going to be a value free agent. This is not a time to cut him unless you then want to devote some moderate resources to replace him in either the draft or by getting a vet in FA.

You keep him on the roster as a valuable role player who's too unreliable to start. Then you fill your starter vacancy and start looking to replace Randle in college or veteran FA. Maybe this is enough to give the nod to Williams coming out of camp next year. But even backup positions in the NFL are valuable enough that you don't just jettison people who can play if you don't have to. You just start looking to replace them.

I am really puzzled that some are surprised people now question whether Randle is a guy you want to invest in.

I trust the Cowboys on this but the idea that it might be time for the Cowboys to cut bait with him as being totally outrageous is peculiar to me. The guy has in the span of 4-5 months, done two horrendously stupid things and gotten caught in the process. I have little doubt he's done more dumb things in the same time frame just been lucky to not get caught.

It's not about casting judgment or whatever else people want to spew. It's about common sense. When a player continues to screw up, even if you believe some of the things are minor in nature, it still calls into question the notion if it is wise to bet your future on the guy.

I don't think it would be impossible to replace him, ... but it is impossible to trust him.

OMG, you obviously don't think about how your words are received before you say them. It's not very believable when you defend an accusation of being defensive by exclaiming otherwise and then you add the one phrase that is the epitome of defensiveness... "don't judge me". You make my point for me better than I do.

I'm not judging you my friend but I am making observation that are based in sound psychology.

He's what, 23? ... Cowboys staff will certainly be bringing to the attention of young Mr. Randle that he is establishing a trend towards f/uppery off the field. But I doubt they're even close to the threshold with him.

I agree with this but you have to make sure you are strong in the team culture you are trying to instil. He was stupid once and it got laughed off.
He now does stupid number two thing and puts you in a bad predicament. Tough decision here for Garrett if you ask me.
Young guys coming in might think JGs a push over.

You should meet my son. Thank god he isn't my problem any more. I finally got mom to understand we can't let a 28 yo keep moving back in the house. Great kid, would help any one. Just won't stop smoking that crap. I quit cigs after 35 years he can't put a joint down.

It's not great, but I think it's a pretty safe bet that the culture in our locker room right now is strong enough to withstand keeping him around until he can be replaced. The message is essentially the same: do stupid things and we'll remove you from our long-term plans, even if you can play.
