Let's step off the high horse a tad here.

If the guy did not have a past and did not have to be wearing the device in the first place he might have a little bit more trust from the fan base.

If someone proves that they are untrustworthy...than when something like this happens they are not going to get the benefit of the doubt from the majority...and rightfully so.

there was never anything indicating he had tested positive for anything.

he was clearly drunk (something 99% of this board has been) and he drove a consenting roommate while drunk. that roommate had access to at least 20 other players and certainly had cab money. he was a terrible tragic victim of a stupid decision made by both himself and another young man; his best friend and roommate.

stupid decisions that get made every day at high rates.

brent needs to stop drinking. he clearly has a problem with it.
he doesnt owe anyone except the Browns' an apology.

the high horse is for those who think they do no wrong thus can attack this guy at will for drunk driving and thus assume he is guilty even when he isnt.

reserving judgment isn't high horse behavior it is common sense and the basis of our legal system.

Lawyers in the office said that Brent’s ankle monitor showed signs of alcohol use at least four times. The monitor tests the wearer for alcohol every 30 minutes of every day.

district attorney’s documents claimed that Brent had failed to show up for multiple bond supervision appointments, and also pointed to 22 occasions — on 22 different days — where Brent’s ankle monitor data did not properly download to the system. An employee for the company who runs that system explained that Brent needed to be at home for that download to work correctly.

Lawyers said that this is not the first time the Cowboys defensive tackle has been cautioned. According to the documents, a judge warned Brent in March about violating the terms of his bond

However, a judge on Friday decided not to put Brent behind bars. He has been put on notice, told to follow the rules of his bond and make sure that his ankle monitor’s data downloads without issue. He has also been put on a new portable system that will require a urine analysis and breath tests at regular and random intervals

Wow, I have never heard of that type of system. They come up with new things all the time. I hope it has different nozzles for the two different tests.

DALLAS -- Cowboys defensive tackle Josh Brent will remain free while he awaits trial for intoxication manslaughter, as a judge on Friday denied a request by prosecutors to revoke his bond due to problems with alcohol monitoring.

Brent is charged in the fatal car crash Dec. 8 that killed Jerry Brown, a Cowboys practice squad player, college teammate and friend. Police have accused Brent of driving with a blood-alcohol content more than twice the legal limit.

As a condition of his $100,000 bond, Brent is required to wear an alcohol ankle monitor and appear for regular meetings with a county officer. Witnesses at Friday's hearing said he had repeatedly missed required times for his ankle monitor to download information, as well as two appointments with the officer.

Judge Robert Burns ordered a second form of monitoring to take breath samples, and for Brent to provide a urine sample. Burns said he would not increase Brent's bond amount.

Prosecutors had filed a motion Thursday asking for his bond to be revoked.

that is just an excuse to do nothing.

Or not care.

Takes stones anymore to actually stand up and say something is wrong instead of taking the pass route

I agree with you (even though you have a lampshade on your head).

He actually didn't do anything wrong other than not being near his monitor enough. This was an example of a prosecutor throwing his weight around.

I'm not sure how many people on this board have heard Brent speak. For those that haven't, he's a well-spoken guy. Not a fool.

So he was at Privae Club on Walnut Hill near I-35 (formerly Beamers, formerly a sports bar, formerly a 2-plex theater there). Comedian that night and a lot of players showed up to watch his act (can't remember who it was ..) ...

But it was the night before he had to show up for a flight up to Cincinnati for a Sunday game.

Because the NFL offers free rides without any names being mentioned, to any player that wants to call them for a ride home, you and me want to blame Brent for being stupid for not taking the ride.

Hey not a great part of town. Dudes a few blocks away cleaned out my Public Storage just a few years ago.

So Brent, who probably has a decent car (probably a very FINE car), thinks: I can take the NFL's offer of a ride home but I have to leave my car at this club and it will probably be vandalized or stolen and I'm going up to Cincinnati for a few days and I don't have any way to drive my car home so it will probably be picked over or gone when I get back.

Nice that the NFL will give you a ride home if you're drunk but the teams should bring an extra guy out to DRIVE YOUR CAR HOME (and give you a ride at the same time) so it won't be stolen etc. It would take one extra guy coming out. And probably save some lives.

how about not showing up for his meetings? i can see maybe not being at home at the right time for the monitor once, maybe twice but to not show up for your meetings is asking to get locked up and while the DA may be trying to win an election because this is a high profile case that does'nt take away the fact he did'nt show up for his meetings which is really dumb and will come out in court when he is tried

it said his probation officer allowed him to reschedule them before he missed any appointment so don't see why the d.a. even included this..

So, it isn't Josh's fault. It is the fault of the free ride program for not offering enough in their services to take care of the person's car as well.

Just busting your chops, but your post did sound a bit like a rationalization for Josh doing what he did. At this point, he would probably gladly take having his car stolen in exchange for what actually did end up happening that night.

"he without sin cast the first stone" isn't a "mantra" nor is it a free pass, wow some of you surprise me. Its a philosophy of noone is perfect or without mistakes, because what happened is just that, a mistake. None of you honestly can put in the same position as brent you wouldn't want forgiveness or to take back that tragic incident. It was his BEST FRIEND for crying out loud. Im not saying he shouldn't be punished or play football again. Im saying who are we to judge this situation and to blast him. He'll never escape what happened. I hope he has become a better man and hopefully help numerous people with situations similar to his or help prevent it. he's a man like most of us. I haven't seen anywhere that he isn't standing up and taking responsibility for this action that changed his and others lives.

Serious. If my beautiful ride (probably custom ride) was on that stinking parking lot on Walnut Hill at that club where Josh Brent decided to bring his dream ride home instead of leaving it at the club for a few days. ...

Maybe you haven't read how all the Dallas-area auto customizers hang around the Valley Ranch parking lot (the Cowboys parking lot there) and ask you, advertise to you, how they can make your car a dream car. Especially if you are into the 60s-era GM cars and a 1964 Impala becomes, at your whim (plus $25K or maybe much more) an incredibly beautiful ride.

If you didn't already have a beautiful ride, they make it for you and park it there at Valley Ranch and you don't have to raise a fingernail to drive it to Garland or a Fort Worth suburb in some obscure garage to have all the work done. It is there for you. You just have to cut a check to the guy after practice. You cut a $100,000 check and your incredible custom car is there for you to take home. What was that show on MTV? Well there it is for the Cowboys guys that want to do it and they love it and their teammates love it and they all kind of compete as to who has the most plush car.

Dude (sorry I've been drinking), all this stuff has been shown a number of times on local TV (it seems like every year - hey they need entertainment every week) on the CBS 11 shows mostly Sunday nights when the Cowboys' feature shows come on: the "Blitz," other Ch. 11 Cowboys shows I can't remember the name of, plus maybe even the Jerry Jones show etc. over the past few years - and they BRAG and talk about the custom work on that show... That is - as an human interest 5-minute feature, Bill Jones talks to very many of the Boys about their custom ride, done as I spoke of before. This isn't limited to young dumb guys - I think Demarcus and maybe a lot of defensive stalwarts have a fantastic beautiful car, Pontiac from 1968 with V-8 and 500-cub inch engine reconditioned etc.
