Meh. This doesn't look good for the defense either actually. 70 reported and then lined up at an ineligible Guard position if I recall correctly. So he actually shouldn't have been accounted for by them. Not good "in the heat of the moment" recognition.
The Ref said he told the defense that 70 reported as eligible. You are correct about where he lined up, but you don't take a chance at that point that a flag would have been thrown if he caught the pass (in other words you cover him instead of relying on the officials to make a call for you).

As myself and other have said the only reason #68 was wide open is because the refs told everyone #70 was the eligible guy.

This can also be confirmed by Damone Clark literally pointing at #70 before the Lions snapped the ball.

Do not allow the media to write the narrative of this being guaranteed points for the Lions and they lost because of it. If the refs swallow the flag in that situation the media wouldn't be in uproar regarding Dallas being told the wrong guy was eligible. It would just be another "Oh, the Cowboys are just being the Cowboys" type of narrative.

The irony of the last sentence is off the charts.

1) 70 is the only one who the ref says was eligible
2) 68 may have stated he is eligible but their hijink and crowd noise caused the ref to not hear him
3) It is very likely he did say he/s eligible, and in his mind the 2 pt was legit
4) If the ref did hear him call eligible, he would have called it out for the Cowboys to hear---thus, we would have put a body on 68 who would have not caught the pass

Game over, except the whiney ESPN crew who are totally clueless to see above
I believe Ryan Clark broke it down last night saying the same thing. He was uneligible and it was the right call by the refs. I'm sure he'll get a tongue lashing this morning from the BSPN office to keep quiet.

I don’t think anybody is arguing that #68 wasn’t reported as eligible by the referee. The question is why wasn’t he? Was Decker asking the ref how his Christmas was before the play when he was talking to him?

It’s painfully obvious the referee completely botched the play. You can also argue the Lions deserve some blame for running the play even tho the wrong player was announced as ineligible.

From what I watched of him he was about to burst a blood vessel. He acknowedge above, but was stubborn and ignorant to mention that if Decker was deemed eligible, the Cowboys assuredly would have him covered off. He assumed everything else should have been know before hand, so to acknowledge this would have been the right stance to take

I have crapped all over Jourdan Lewis’s name a number of times over the years.

He is bar none, the best player on this defense right now.
I think he's finally healthy but now he's playing with a lot more confidence and not committing the silly a____ penalties.
Also.......it's a contract year, that matters (lol)

LOL, if the ref was correct then 70 was identified as potentially eligible. Would you rather account for him or the guy who is identified as ineligible?

You are absolutely correct. If they “tricked” the Cowboys and there was no flag— people would mock and laugh and roll their eyes to any complaint the Cowboys would raise.

The penalty was legit, and the ONLY reason the Lions were even in the game was because Dallas left points on the field due to the Dak INT, and the Lamb fumble through the endzone.

They even got another 2 chances to convert the 2pt try— and they FAILED both times!!

Any narrative that is trying to act like detroit got screwed is simply wrong

That’s what I was thinking. Almost Erie in fact. I remember him saying it after our SB wins decades ago and he said it in the same way.
Well Jimmy does hold certain holy elevated seats.
Maybe the induction broke the curse...

Dan Cambell is one fiesty sob of a coach looking to gain any edge out there. It wouldn't shock me to find out that the entire concept of misinformation to get an easy TD or conversion was intentional.

I'm not saying it's a fact but what better team to try it out against better than the cowboys or raiders.....the refs haven't exactly been looking out for our interests and McCarthy wouldn't have put up a fight.....i wonder if MM is even aware of what happened by now?

It was obvious Detroit botched the trickery of the refs. The refs did not fall for it. And some of our fans don't like it.
That is what gets me, some of our fans don't like we won.
