As myself and other have said the only reason #68 was wide open is because the refs told everyone #70 was the eligible guy.

This can also be confirmed by Damone Clark literally pointing at #70 before the Lions snapped the ball.

Do not allow the media to write the narrative of this being guaranteed points for the Lions and they lost because of it. If the refs swallow the flag in that situation the media wouldn't be in uproar regarding Dallas being told the wrong guy was eligible. It would just be another "Oh, the Cowboys are just being the Cowboys" type of narrative.

Let’s be very clear. This was a planned trick/borderline cheating play by the Detroit Lions that backfired. The refs should be commended for this. They sent three lineman to have a chitchat with the refs to confuse them. It backfired on them. That’s why the lineman was wide open in the end zone. He was not in fact, reported by the refs to the Cowboys as being an eligible receiver. Because the Lions intentionally approached the refs with three different lineman to confuse them. They simply got caught. And the ref had enough of a sack to make the call!

Meh. This doesn't look good for the defense either actually. 70 reported and then lined up at an ineligible Guard position if I recall correctly. So he actually shouldn't have been accounted for by them. Not good "in the heat of the moment" recognition.
But if you are told a certain player reported as eligible, are you to assume because he lined up at an ineligible spot that he's not the eligible receiver, the other lineman is? I think that's poor logic. The defense is told who reported as eligible. It's not their job to worry about illegal formations.

I don’t think anybody is arguing that #68 wasn’t reported as eligible by the referee. The question is why wasn’t he? Was Decker asking the ref how his Christmas was before the play when he was talking to him?

It’s painfully obvious the referee completely botched the play. You can also argue the Lions deserve some blame for running the play even tho the wrong player was announced as ineligible.
What were the other 2 Lions saying to the ref? We don't know what Decker said to the ref. Or what the other two said. I don't know why we are so disinclined to accept the word of the ref, who announced who was eligible to the entire stadium. No one corrected him so why is he wrong?

I have crapped all over Jourdan Lewis’s name a number of times over the years.

He is bar none, the best player on this defense right now.
Geez it's not even Overreaction Monday yet. Get ahold of yourself.

He announced because of what he was told. If it was wrong then the Lions should have said something. The fact they didn't and tried to pull a fast one is the problem.

It's typical that the Cowboys get brutalized by the officials on the road the last two games and you don't hear a peep, now you get 3inch headlines for a Lions team that wouldn't have even been in the position for a game winning drive if it weren't for that dyslexic tripping call, they also had an illegal formation on the right side for the 2pt try, and on top of that they get a complete do-over from the original line of scrimmage for the 2pt try after the Micah offsides. Cry me a river!
Don't disagree but - let us not forget the pathetic SOFT defense Quinn goes into so Detroit can motor down the field unhindered. Or, the 2 ridiculous pass plays Mike called to keep just enough time on the clock to enable the Lions to motor down the field unhindered. Lord, God Dallas can be really stupid at times.

Can someone buy him a book about Time Management please?
When Jerry hired Mike a good friend of mine and lifelong GB fan told me .. "He's gonna drive ya nuts with his clock decisions!" Man, he was right. He's been mismanaging so long now, I don't expect it to change anytime soon ...

So, maybe the lions were trying to pull a fast one on the refs and Cowboys? The Lions are not as innocent in all of this as the media wants us to believe?
You are correct. That is why they sent three linemen to the ref - all to confuse Dallas. Personally, I hate the lineman eligible rule. If they're gonna do it, put an "eligible numbered" Jersey on em .. I'm sure they can buy a 4XL jersey that not 50s, 60s, or 70s .. :flagwave:

I hope Dallas is getting as disgusted with the empty talking heads on TV talking like they were gifted a win by the refs. Boomer Esiason showing the playoff picture and saying "because of the mistake last night Dallas is the 2 seed" sthu.

Meh, you still account for him because what if they don’t call it?

This is my thinking too. Once the refs didn’t announce 68 as eligible, ignoring it would have been patently unfair to the cowboys.

So for the refs screw up? Maybe, I guess I still don’t know for sure. But at that point, a replay was the only thing they could do.

Nobody accounts for linemen to go out for passes that haven't reported as eligible receivers. Ever.

Glad we could finally agree on something Mountaineer.
