Diggs got paid and the way Bland is playing he is going to get paid too. I don't see where they have any room for a 3rd all-pro CB under the CAP. Lewis is the weak link but as others have stated, Diggs getting hurt is why he is on the field so much. Even so, can we really complain about the defense? No team shuts everyone out every week.
Thank you you said what I said but in a shorter paragraph I just don't get where any fans think that at every position that we have should be all pro or Pro Bowl type players that's not how it works that would be an embarrassment of riches in which this league with the salary cap created parity to make that not happen.. I mean it seems like we're spoiled the fact of the matter is having Gilmore bland and Trayvon diggs on this team this year it's not normal.. I don't know many teams that have two to three players at every position that are that good you can't you're always gonna have a weak spot you need to try to cover up and they should be doing that with safety help or whatever needs to happen it's not happening but I can live with Lewis warts because every team has these guys on their team... You have to roll with role players... You can't have stars at every position and I think fans crying over it is ridiculous

The Lewis fans get their feelings hurt and trot out bunk rationale like “you expect everyone to be like Bland and Diggs…if he doesn’t get beat someone else will” as some lame attempt of an alibi to accept mediocrity.

Here’s the numbers:

- Lewis is giving up 12.9 yards per reception
- QBs have a 111.2 rating when targeting him
- He’s given up 3 TDs

Lewis looks out of gas. Mukumaku did a great job covering the slot in limited reps last year, so I'd love to give him an expanded role.

Poorer athletes, by NFL standards, tend to age worse than better athletes. They just don't have that step to give up. Lewis was always kind of a borderline size/speed guy, and that bad wheel means he is probably finished just at age 28.

NFL players age at different rates, hes not getting quicker, thats for sure.

Exactly. He's definitely better than Wright and Igbinoghene, though I'd love to see Mukuamu get a chance.
Mukuamu would get bested by the Quicker slot WRs. We likely draft a slot CB this year

if he had made just one third down breakup vs the eagles we wouldve won.
He was targeted on every 3rd and long to save the eagles drives i think 4 times.

I thought he played somewhat better vs the panthers and had a FF that didnt bounce our way. Hoping he gets better after that injury.
Well he was targeted because he was guarding Goedert if I'm not mistaken. That's a mismatch in itself.

Lewis hasn't been very good this year, but we need to keep it in perspective too. Coming into yesterdays game he's logged 9 games, 311 snaps and allowed 15 catches for 210 yards. He's clearly not what he was pre injury, but the guy isn't out here getting beat every play either. This feels like a perfect situation that you look to upgrade in the offseason but for right now you focus more on how do you give him some help on 3rd downs. It's going to be tough to find a better player now that the trade deadline has passed.

He is the weak link of this defense.
You mean like any 3rd or 4th guy in line? What are we talking about here? 4 pro bowler CBs on our roster? I mean Bland was supposed to be the slot guy. Once Diggs gets back...

His injury took his speed away and he’s never been a ball hawk. His career may be done after this season.

You do realize that could be said about most teams I mean do people in here not watch football you can't have great players in every position you have to accept that there's weak spots on your defense and the way to fix that is to not have the coaches put them in positions to have to be the guy where's the cover up where's our safeties and by the way you want to complain about something let's complain about the lack of run stopping ability of this defense and this defense giving up long scoring drives that if they team wants to run and they have a mobile quarterback they probably would have won yesterday if they had a smarter play caller.. When I look at our defense I see our defense as having a huge weakness it's either boom or bust they're either getting a lot of sacks and turnovers or they're on the field giving up long scoring drives into bad teams to boot I mean if you look at the three losses the one in Arizona you can look at the defense that's the problem not Lewis by himself..

It's really odd that you think that every team it should be great at every position the Philadelphia Eagles has a bad back end and they do everything they can to fix it and they can't you know why because there's always at least one weakness you can't expect that that many good corners on the team...
With a healthy Diggs, coming into the season I thought we had the best secondary in the NFL, now I think we have the best secondary in the NFC without Diggs. What are you talking about weaknesses for? The OP is crapping on Lewis, I am saying he was the best 4th cornerback in the league and I am glad we have him over crap like Joseph.

Lewis has given up some plays but his play hasn’t been miserable.

Because honestly Lewis is the weak link on the back end I mean on our team he's the weak link they're picking on him because they don't want to throw at the other guys how is that hard to understand that is exactly my point I'm agreeing that the statements made by the original poster are way out of line because his expectations are out of line nobody has that kind of depth we were lucky to go into the season having what we had but we're better off than a lot of teams in the league including the Philadelphia Eagles who are struggling to find any kind of continuity back there with these awesome trades that they made to fix their back end is it fixed

Nope not from what I've seen... I don't believe they have one corner who is as good there's even Gilmore let alone bland and diggs they're overrated they know it they keep trying to plug holes over there their strength is up the middle our strengths on the back end so both of us have a weakness on defense but yes you can't realistically have that type of player at every position the original posters expectations are way out of line...

I wanna know where the safety help is where is the design of the plays that keep putting Lewis in a position to be picked on?

But let's talk more about the lack of being able to stop the run once again and letting a team have a drive that was like what 14 plays they converted three fourth down plays I mean they had our defense on the field all game I'd hardly put that on Lewis...
Those plays are all blitzes where there is no safety help. There's not going to be safety help on short passes anyways. Cole Beasley made a career of winning where there is no safety help.

They gave up 10 points and people want to complain about the run defense. That's insane. RUNNING THE BALL DOESN'T MATTER IF YOU CAN'T THROW. The long TD drive was propelled because they completed passes over and over again, including a third and long.

The run defense is fine, Lewis is fine. The challenge this defense has is that the 4-man passrush is inconsistent.

My issue isn’t giving up a few catches here and there. Slot corner is a difficult position to play.

My issue is he is the new 3rd and Reeves (Jacque). Teams are finding him on 3rd and 4th downs
 Oh man, the Jacque Reeves days. Those were fun. lol

If you don't like Jourdan Lewis pray you don't see who's playing behind him. The nickel construction would change if Lewis was out...Bland would probably go back to slot CB while Wright or Mukuamu play outside, and either would be heavily targeted.
