Dolphins release safety Keith Davis

The Dolphins will announce later this evening that they have released safety Keith Davis.

This is a strange and untimely move for several reasons.

First: Davis has been starting on practically every special team the Dolphins play. He has, by all accounts, acquitted himself well on those special teams. So that causes questions.

Secondly: The team is under the 75-man roster limit. It didn't need to release anyone. So it raises eyebrows that Davis would get released when there was no roster mechanism that required the move.

I am not suggesting the move is caused by outside circumstances but this smells funny.

I can also share with you that Davis was listed on the team's flight manifest for Wednesday's trip to New Orleans. He was even given a room number. So this is obviously a last second move.

Davis was signed as an unrestricted free agent from the Cowboys this offseason. He was part of the Cowboyfication  of the Dolphins that included tight end Anthony Fasano, linebacker Akin Ayodele and others.

I'd be stunned if he's not already on a plane back to Dallas.

As for the person who said you wouldn't sign a guy who's a special teams player only, what role do you think most of the bottom feeders on our roster will be serving? I'd much rather have Keith Davis leading our special teams and contributing nothing on defense than Dowayne Davis doing the same.

I would pass on both. I'd rather players like Watkins who lead the team in ST tackles last year and can contribute on Defense be on the roster.

Are Miami assistant coaches allowed to talk to reporters?
The Bill Parcells handbook allows media access to assistants during pre-season. One the games are for real, they're off limits.

While that would be ideal, I don't think its very reasonable to expect a team in today's NFL to assemble a roster without ST specialists...every team has them.

no but some one that got signed in the off season by a team that went 1-15 the year before. Leads you to believe that something is a miss.

yes, and being wrong several times in life you learn to wait and do silly things, like collect evidence.

you'll catch on soon, i'm sure.

Apparently Burnett wants him too...

What About Anquan Boldin?

The guy is big, strong and runs with a passion sound fimilair (Marion Barber). Oh by the way he is pretty good at catching the ball. He's the next best to Hands Ward when it comes to being physical at wideout. I am not starting anything but I just went and looked at the Cardinals website and I cant seem to find his name anywhere on the depth chart. WHY is that? Something is in the works with whom I don't know but I bet every dollar I have that Jerry has his hand in the middle of it. I love our wideout grouping but I do know the business aspect of the game and nothing against those guys but Jerry will get the best guys if he can. This goes for upgrading any position. Wideouts are like corners you cant have enough of them. "These are just my thoughts I could be wrong".

I do know the price for those season tickets include the preseason tickets I have to buy some every year.

Yes I did put HANDS on purpose

Is there a way for us to get Keith Davis back?

I don't think its a big deal. Somethings not right about his release I think its something related to drugs it doesn't have to be nor will it cause me to lose sleep over if thats not why he got released.

Just thinking outside the box here -- before I just bash Davis and assume he got in trouble -- think there's any way this is an under-the-table move for a pending trade?

Again, waay outside the box, but say Miami is close to sending us Beck for a fifth rounder, but as part of the deal we get Davis? (I'm assuming it would work better for their cap to cut him than trade him)

Just throwing it out there. Heck, if we're going to assume he's in trouble, this theory is no worse. ;)

Ya, they are stacked at SS. Yeremiah Bell, a 30 year old guy with 120 career tkls and 1 int? Or maybe it's that crazy talent named Courtney Bryan with his 11 career tkls? I can see how Keith stuck with us for 5 years but that vicious fish SS numbers game ate him up:rolleyes:

I find it very interesting that even current Cowboys players are talking about Boldin to Dallas as if it's happening.....

While this 'sentence' makes no sense whatsoever, I'll go ahead and assume that you're insinuating that Watkins was only a ST contributor....and you'd be wrong. Again.
