I'd rather not have someone who only job is ST and can't be a decent back up. Keith Davis didn't lead our teams in ST tackles last year.

He was tied for third with 18 and missed 2 games and played with an injury.

I will take him as a special teamer here.

And we surrendered touchdown returns in the two games Killer missed before coming back and playing with a torn pec that required off-season surgery.

I haven't watched the Fish in pre-season.

How many opportunities did Davis have on special teams? Was he drawing a crowd at all when on the field?

Our coaches will look at such things before making a decision to bring Bullet back in the fold.

If we decide to, I wouldn't expect it until after week one to keep from guaranteeing Davis' base salary.

No, thats not what I'm saying. I was stating that Watkins was good for us on ST last year more tackles that Keith Davis. He also was a solid contributor for us on D if you saw some of my other post in this thread you would know that I wouldn't say something like what you think I am.

Watkins is a good special teams player.

But if you are just going my numbers Keith davis led the team with 16 in 05, then had 14 in 06 and 18 last year when he was injured.

He is good at all aspects of special teams. And plenty of championship teams have had special teams ace's.

Think hard, maybe you can remember some from some championship teams.

If he is clean, he definitely wouldnt hurt.

My strong guess is there's is alot mroe to this story.

They dont need the cap room, so he wasnt cut for that as some seem to think.

Either he was just flat out awful, or he has got into some big trouble. If its one of those two, I dont see any need for him to be brought back, nor do I think they would bring him back.

And in all honesty, the stuff thats wrong with our coverage units is nothing that he is going to fix. They werent any good with him here last yr either.

ASSUMING that there are no legal or physical issues with Davis, I would welcome him back like yesterday! If you think that he did not make a definable difference on our ST last year then you are in complete denial.

Just thinking outside the box here -- before I just bash Davis and assume he got in trouble -- think there's any way this is an under-the-table move for a pending trade?

Again, waay outside the box, but say Miami is close to sending us Beck for a fifth rounder, but as part of the deal we get Davis? (I'm assuming it would work better for their cap to cut him than trade him)

He may be backup S and ST guy, but I think Dallas should sign him with his leadership. We've seen now that Wade's not gonnna use starters on ST's. He's gonna use backups and young guys. They'll need that veteran getting on them

Keith when he retires will be an EMT. He understands high level first aid, pressure points and value in getting to hospital fast.

Maybe Parcells remembered that Davis can't cover to save his life......so even if he is great on STs, he is a complete liability in coverage.

Sounds like Bill Bates, Kenny Gant and any number of great NFL special teams aces. Seems like every Superbowl team has one.

Too bad this team doesn't have one.
