It’s hard to believe but Jerry once declared a “rising young offensive mind” known as Kellen Moore was going to be a rising star in this league. Moore is now in his 4th season as an NFL offensive coordinator. He still looks like he’s in year one to me.

Can anyone say with a straight face he has improved or shown himself to be that “rising young offensive mind” he was advertised to be? That we know of, he’s interviewed for at least 3 NFL HC positions and several college jobs and has yet to be seen by anyone other than JJ as a great offensive mind.

Let’s do some comparing to some other young NFL OCs who have proven to be a lot more than Kellen Moore.
  • Sean McVey- under Mike Shanahan when he was in Wash, McVay became the OC in 2016 at age 28. He served in that role for 3 years before top shelf GM Les Snead of the rams saw his potential and made SMcV the youngest HC in NFL history. In his 5 years with rams, SMcV has won 7 playoff games including 2 NFC championships and a SB with two different QBs.
  • Kyle Shanahan- the current niners HC became an OC at aged 28 at Houston and later was an OC at Cle, Was and Atl. While in Atl, his offense won an NFC championship and afterwards he was hired by SF as it’s HC at age 37. His niners teams have won 4 playoff games the last 4 seasons (the same number our Cowboys have won in 27 years!) including an NFC championship.
  • Matt LaFluer- the HC of the packers was a rising young coach for years. He was the QBs coach in Atl when they went to the SB, then was OC under Sean McVay at LA in 2017 then later for the Titans. The pack hired in him in 2019 as their HC. He has only won 2 playoff games at GB in 3 seasons but that’s 2 more than Kellen Moore has won.
Whatever Jerry saw in Kellen Moore in 2019 to name him his OC at 28….it so far has been a dud. And when you look at the three guys mentioned above who were also considered “rising stars”, KM has a very long way to go be considered anywhere near what he was advertised to be.

Everyone has a different path.

I don't think Kellen's path is the same as the list you showed above.

Is it possible for him to eventually become a HC? Maybe, but I wouldn't be pulling out the anointing oil as Parcells use to say.

I believe that he will constantly be linked to Garrett which doesn't hold much value outside of our organization

If he was that great- even last year- he would have already been poached.
He was great. For 7 weeks. The problem is. The league figured him out, he ran out of wrinkles and ideas and was just left with Garretts out dated scheme.

We have seen this movie before. I was hoping Moore wasn't as stubborn as his 2 teachers but he has proven me wrong.

They still have years on their resume and multiple stops. Lafleur coached for 15 years before becoming a coordinator in the NFL. McVay 6 years. Shanahan 5 years. Legit resumes with multiple stops for all 3 guys. Not another learn on the job Jerry hire. Moore has zero in common with any of them.

JJ believed the lie of Linehan. He may have been a QB coach but he is running the same game plan as last year that’s how the bucs said they knew what they were going to do. On every play. The same game plan with 1 proven WR. And refused to keep running the ball when Elliot was getting 5.2 yards per carry and on 8 of the 10 runs it was the last guy that tackled him. He was about to start breaking them. Elliot should say something. And it should be known in film study today.

I appreciate that post because they have learned from different coaches, different organizations along the way. Moore only knows Garrett and the Cowboys. I don't know if I really count McCarthy since he appears to be hands off.

That's another joke. You hire an offensive HC with a legit resume, yet hand your offense to an unqualified guy with zero experience and have the HC keep his hands off? lol Another poor Jerry decision. Not to mention a setup that favors no one. Pits one against the other, like Phillips vs Garrett. Jerry never learns anything.

There's 3 parts to being an offensive coordinator
1. is concept
2 is execution
3 is play calling
Concept has to fit your quarterback's skill set. Dak is not a pocket quarterback and never will be so you gotta come up with a type of run and shoot that's the only hope. I had hoped they spent the off season developing a scheme similar to 2016 where he would have a chance and help the OL but for whatever reason they didn't.

Execution: starts with the offensive line and I'm not even gonna go any further because our coaching is garbage and if I'm KM I be telling Jerry I need a competent line coach. That should have happened immediately after the 49er game.
Play calling: I thought he came out well the other night. Tampa was playing us pretty much straight up, the run game was working. Then Tampa dropped its corners and moved people up a few steps in middle and that was all she wrote. When your quarterback is incapable of throwing outside, deep, or into a crowded middle you're pretty much done.
The good news Cooper is capable of throwing into a crowded middle and I'm going to see what Moore can do with a serviceable QB this week

but this is it.

If Moore were as great as advertised, he would already be head coach

Two out of his three years they've had the #1 offense in yards. That has to account for something. Yes, he's got some improvements to make and this year will tell us a lot more since he has less weapons. But to say he's a, "dud," seems a little over the top. Garrett in NY was a dud.

There have been several analyses of their last few games showing Dak missing throws, making late reads, etc. If the plays are there and not being executed, that goes on the players. I have my theory about pre-snap manipulation by defenses and I think having some games with Rush will confirm or deny my suspicions. These few weeks without Dak should tell us exactly who Moore is. They were able to pull off a win in Minnesota last year, which is more than we can say for previous coordinators when we lost our QB1.

We’ve had an upper half offense . #1 last year. I think he deserves some recognition which he has received.

I don’t see Pizza Boy as our core concern on offense.

yeah, you get to be the number one offense not knowing anything with this team.
how about blaming the lazy butt players who are too busy trying to start a side business and make up stupid dances or signs when they do their job on the field.

I love listening to the excuses, just don't blame the loser players who are out there promoting themselves. sheesh. smh

Kellen Moore got handed the position with no merit. I think we all felt great about Kellen Moore after year 1. You usually see that as opposing teams don't know exactly what to prepare for against a new coordinator and see a lift in the first year. In year 2 he got a pass because Dak went down early. Year 3 we saw big concerns against better teams, as talent alone wasn't enough to consistently perform.
