Roy would have a pretty big cap hit if we cut him though wouldn't he?

No way, no how. I just don't see it happening. The Cap hit would be prohibative at this point. Phillips can not play CB so he would have to start at Safety. I can't see us cutting Roy. Maybe next year.

Kenny Phillips will make it to 22 likely. He will prob not make it to 28, but he may. San Diego was a team that alot of Mocks had him going to at 27, but they just signed on of their safeties to a long term deal, course that doesnt mean they wouldnt want to get younger there.

I saw on our "DB Board" on the Ch 11 thing, if it wasnt just a ruse, that our staff has KP as the 3rd best DB. So if in fact we do have him that high, and our top 2 are gone and there has been a run on cb's, then why not.

Sure I would love him at EXACTLY where he should get taken, say 26, but sometimes you gotta pull the trigger on a guy you want and cant hold yourself hostage by having a pick a couple higher than his true value is.

I say grab him at 22, and then I believe we will still have cb options at 28 like cason or flowers. Those prob woulda been the only cbs still there at 22 anyways. Or we trade down, and do our rb/cb/combo in the 2nd.

We'll see, but I wouldn't be upset with him at 22, and would love it if we lucked out and got him at 28.

PFW's draft report is not high on Phillips. Said he's not near as athletic as Reed or Taylor were when they came out. Said he's better in the box. I think I've seen enough of those kind of safetys. :)

Reading thier report combined with the reports of what was said on NFL Network tonight about Phillips bummed me out. I kind of liked Phillips.

I watched that also this evening. I did not like one thing they mentioned about Phillips - his lack of speed. If we can't make a play for a vet WR at 28, it will be interesting to see if we go with Phillips.
Yea that same guy Charles davis said that Plhillips is a late 1st or 2nd rder but when he did the part of the show where who would the Cowboys take at #22 he said Brandon Flowers which I think is a lil early.

Okay, but even if we arent CUTTING ROY WILLIAMS this yr...okay, we prob are not keeping him and hamlin. And I know this makes #31 jersey wearers to want to slit their wrists, but we prob will cut roy after this yr. So why not draft a top echelon safety and let him learn the system for a yr b4 throwing him in the fire when he will be asked to be the starter?

Boy, I may be the most unpopular guy in this thread but I say PLEASE NO. The comparisons to Ed Reed are ridiculous. Phillips has no where near the athletic ability Reed has. He's built like a corner, plays soft, does not tackle well, does not have instincts for the ball (7 career INT's in 3 years as a starter) and only stood out when he played next to Brandon Merriweather.

People are just falling in love with him because he is a safety from the U. Certinly not for what he did this year and for that matter last.

How does Pat Watkin's athleticism compare to Ed Reeds and Sean Taylors? KP is still an elite athlete, with more talent than our other future options. Before this yr, when he struggled for what some have called scheme reasons, he was listed as a top 10 pick. The guy has the talent, he just needs to be coached.

The encouraging thing about him is, he is apparently a great kid, a good student, and a hard worker. (basically nothing you would expect outta thug U) So I think he could end up a steal.

There's no way Phillips gets past Carolina or Philly. IMHO of course.... That being said, I'd love it if he makes it to 22.

Philly takes a wr.

Carolina takes Mendenhall.

Book it.

He's built like a rail. It was one of the main concerns among scouts in the eye test. He just looks very fragile.

I know I am probably in the minority here but I think that RW will come around and return to being an impact player this year.

RW is already under contract and will cost us a bundle if we unload him.

I dont see us keeping Hamlin. I thought we would initially but not after some of the crazy money being thrown at so-so FS's this off season.

When do you guys think KP will be taken in the draft?
I also think that RW will come around this year for a few reasons. If we get this pacman deal done then our coverage will be better. I also think that Spencer will progress and start making a bigger impact. With some increased pressure and better coverage it will allow RW to play up at the line again. Give him more freedom to utilize his hard hitting instinct again.

Or very small safety.

Thats a great point.

So KP is 6' 2 1/4" 212 lbs

Ed Reed - 5' 11" 200 lbs

Bob Sanders - 5' 8" 200 lbs

Troy Polomalu - 5' 10" 207 lbs

Deon Grant - 6' 2" 220 lbs

Adrian Wilson - 6' 3" 230 lbs

Laron Landry - 6' 2" 213 lbs

Reggie Nelson - 5' 11" 198 lbs

Ken Hamlin - 6' 2" 209 lbs

Roy Williams - 6' 229 lbs (and I think 99.99% of people would agree, the extra lbs aint helpin this boy play safety)

And I can go ON AND ON AND ON........

Shall I?

Again, I'd love to see it, but tell me what WR is philly gone take over KP??? He'd make an excellent replacement for Dawkins. And we all know how good Philly is at releasing players when they reach that age in their career. I just don't see a wideout in this draft that is that highly rated. I know that they are talking to D jackson, but I doubt they take him.... I guess we'll all know soon enough.....

How many of those players do you look at and think "dang he's skinny"?

Phillips has a very thin frame. It is what it is no matter how many height and weight for safety's you post. If you look at the ratio of height and weight in those you posted you will see besides Hamlin they are pretty proportional.

Man can't RW see the premier safeties play at or around 200-215 pounds excluding Adrian Wilson. :banghead: LOSE SOME WEIGHT!

I bet Philly takes a gamble on Hardy/Thomas at 19.

I'm sorry, you specifically said he would be...let me get the quote right here a "very small safety." That is simply not true. He almost has a perfect frame for a safety, and while I will admit he is thin looking, he has no trouble in the box. Not to mention that if staying at around 215 will enable him to run a 4.48, versus adding 15 lbs and looking like that pathetic LB we have back there now....then I will accept "dang he's skinny."

Speaking of Hardy, I see the Benglas have grown an intrest in him. Have they not learned?
