Texans were very much interested in Romo before he retired. Nobody traded for Romo, because well, he retired....
It was well documented once the Cowboys gave Romo permission to seek a trade.......there were no takers/offers. Lots of initial speculations but it came down to only Texans and Broncos but neither team were willing to give up a draft pick OR guarantee him a starting job. John Elway admitted the Broncos would bring him to compete for the starting QB job but only after his release from the Cowboys.

It’s a passing league. You guys are talking like it’s the 90s. Aikman and Staubach gets that excuse. Not Romo. Guys were passing all over the league….
No crap it's a passing league, it doesn't change the fact that defenses have clearly been neutered since then. Passing has gotten easier. You can easily verify this from just looking at league wide stats from 2006 to 2014 when Romo was starting and then compare to how the game has changed since then.

https://www.pro-football-reference.com/years/2006/passing.htm

Look at completion %, INT%, TD%, and QBR across the league and compare them to 2014 and on. Your argument is just garbage. Cousins is a top 15 QB, Romo during his playing career was a top 5-8 with 2-3 seasons where he was top 3. Cousins has NEVER been that and never will be.

They weren't willing to trade because of the asking price by Jerry - THAT is well documented. An owner bugling the trade doesn't change the fact that they were wanting to trade for Romo, but Jerry is a bozo. Imagine that. To suggest that no team would have given up a draft pick, even late round draft pick, to take a chance on Romo is ridiculous.

Denver Not Interested in Romo Trade, Could Consider QB on Open Market

Sunday, Jan. 29

On Jan. 15, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported the Broncos are "not inclined" to trade for Romo, which means the only way he could land in Colorado is via free agency.

Mike Klis of 9News.com reported Sunday about that possibility: "A source in the Broncos' football department did not dismiss the possibility of bringing in the Dallas Cowboys quarterback—providing the situation reaches the point where Romo is no longer Cowboys' property."

Romo is a vastly overrated by Cowboy fans. Washington, Philadelphia and Giants fans think he is a choke artist. Everyone of those teams beat Romo in win or go home games at the end of the season. Giants and Eagles beat him twice to end our season.

Rival fans dislike rival QB. Real big brain takes in here.

The argument was that NO team would trade for him - the problem was Jerry's asking price, that is specifically mentioned within talks with Texans.

Let's also remember, Romo had a pretty sizable contract at the time. So Jerry asking for a high pick on top of that is good enough reason to not go after Romo. As I said, it's incredibly stupid to think that a team wouldn't give up a late round pick for Romo - it was contract + Jerry being a bozo that kept him from being traded. We get fleeced, we don't fleece other teams.

Not really.......when it was all said and done, he was officially released, free to sign with any team but still left the game. IF the Broncos, Texans or any other team wanted him bad enough or vice versa, he was a free agent, why didn't he sign?

It's my understanding ( reading a few nuggets around the league at the time) he was not willing to backup or sign with another team unless he was the starter. There were some rumblings that even once he signed with the networks he would have considered coming out of retirement for the right offer and/or team but his network career took like wildfire.

Not by Cowboy fans.....by Romo fans. Most Cowboy fans know what Romo was. I'm not entirely sure why post career he's been raised up to this level as if he's Brady or Rodgers.

Didn't the Cowboys release Romo? Why couldn't anyone sign him after they released him? Why do you think that is?

That's some ********. Romo has NEVER been a top 3 quarterback. Yeah I'm not gonna debate with you now you're out of of line. I'm not debating with a Romo fan its pointless.

Yeah Romo and Dak are on the same level. Top 10 quarterbacks for their era and just could not get over the hump in big playoff games. Dak has a chance to prove himself though barring an injury.

I agree. And Romo was a good QB. I'm not insinuating he wasn't. But he's far closer to Dak than he was Brees or Rodgers. They're of the same caliber.

Really dude? Don’t lack facts get in the way of truth.
A guy who led the entire NFL his last 6 years as a starter in 4th quarter game-winning drives is not a choke artist….regardless of what lazy or low IQ fans may say

Several factors
  • Romo would only consider trades to 1 or 2 teams, so there was no reason to even consider it
  • Romo had been injured a lot but a trade vs a release would require a team to take his cap hit
  • Everyone knew he was considering taking a huge announcer gig
