Should the Cowboys have paid more attention to their practice squad QB Alex Tanney. He was picked off the practice squad by Cleveland and signed with them on Nov 26th. Do you think he would be a better choice than going to a retired QB?

No he was terrible

What's it going to be then, eh?

so is he taking us to glory or just running practices?

According to Garrett, yes, he will be running practices for the scout team and simulating Nick Foles.

Given his age and how slow Foles is, that might be a brilliant move.

He led the Seahawks and Bengals to the playoffs.

Seriously... One winning record his whole career... Five times he's thrown more INTs than TDs... Many times, as many TDs as INTs... His TEAM happened to get into the playoffs in divisions of mediocrity at the time... Cut the spin

He's donating his $53K paycheck to his highschool as per NFL Network.

Yep.

Like I was trying to tell everyone earlier. The man does not need the money. It's all about the kids (and his family and faith) at this stage in his life.

If you're judging someone on their ability to get their team to the playoffs, I imagine you're not a Romo fan.

Without going back and reading 8 pages of posts on this thread, the quote from Kitna was a little telling in terms of Garrett's mindset and why he should be gone for the millionth time:
“That was first question out of his mouth,” Kitna told the team’s website. “Like I said, it’s not like I’ve been sitting around, staying in shape, hoping I get another shot – my career is done,” he said. “I just felt like, with the situation that they’re in, I might be able to help in an emergency situation.”

I mean.... so if Orton gets hurt, you are confident that Kitna, a qb who has not kept in shape, not looking to keep his career going/retired would be able to help out to keep the Boy's playoff hopes alive? REALLY? I mean, if we are talking about a much younger Aikman or Joe Montana, fine, I get it since they were better than all the FAs out there. But it just seems odd to pin your hopes on Kitna if Orton gets hurt. Probably more of a PR move imo. since Orton shouldn't get hurt but for the diehards, its another head scratcher.

Uh yeah... Like I said, five or six seasons of throwing more INTs than TDs.. That's close to almost fifty percent.

Given Romo's age you would expect the Cowboys to start putting together a migration plan to the "next" QB. But I have not seen anything suggesting that Dallas can see beyond Romo. This happened after Aikman...the team wondered in the wilderness for years. I am not saying the young guys they have had on the practive squad were the answer, but you need a pipeline of talent to evaluate and groom.

Could Dallas have grabbed a decent QB off someone else's practice squad...?

I agree, but blame JJ on that. I have a sneaky suspicion he has told his scounts not to really be too concerned with the qb postion since he has put so much money into it already which is always a bad move. You don't just stop looking/churning/devloping because you think you have a starter for years to come. This is where JJ being a GM hurts. He doesn't see past the now and his thoughts that the Boys should be back in the superbowl (not playoffs) every year. So it always seems like the Boys are in catchup mode or dire straits mode in how they draft or sign players at times which puts them over a barrel to pay more or give more than the next team imo.

Get back to me on TD to INT ratio.. Just stop with the Kitna-Romo comparisons...

I'm not comparing Romo to Kitna. I'm just saying the Kitna signing isn't as awful a signing as you're making it out to be. Especially considering he probably won't play and our only other options were David Carr and Tyler Thigpen.

No, we signed a guy who knows the Offense, personnel, and terminology already. We signed a guy who himself went through a herniated disc in 2011 and knows what Romo is going through more than anyone else. We signed a guy who is respected by Tony Romo more than you will ever understand, who respects the Head Coach and organization more than you will ever understand, and who regularly was the leader of prayer sessions after practices and meetings that were attended by some of the best players on this team. We signed a guy who is a HS football coach, and who could roll out of bed and throw the football the same as any guy who played the position could if they've continued to throw a football. We signed a guy who can run scout team plays because he is tough, intelligent, and a natural leader. We signed a guy who more players than you can even imagine are excited to have back.
