Kurt Warner on Dak

Fans are not hating on Dak Prescott the man, they are hating on Dak Prescott the QB...Big difference. I think the kid is totally fantastic as a human being,

It’s sad that fans can hate on a young qb that is as impressive as dak is.

Dak needs to play better and his presnap reads are where it starts. Its premature to think he's a finished player now. He's shown enough to warrant some optimism.

Drop back, set feet properly, throw to the right spot.

What does he know? He's just a HOF'er. ;)

I like Dak and believe he is closer to his rookie year than last year but for those talking about what Kurt has to say like it is proof of anything look at this:

“But for me, I continue to go ‘Hey, when this guy was healthy, this is what I got,’” he went on. “I’ve got to get that guy healthy again because what we saw last year from him was very, very unique, and it was different, and he really carried this team on his back, so that’s the guy I want. I want that game-changing, difference-making guy that I saw last year that I believe he can be again when he gets his confidence back, when he gets his health back.”

“I don’t really understand that scenario, I don’t understand why it played out, obviously it did, but he is definitely my guy moving forward,” Warner stated.

That is what Warner said about RG3 after his rookie season. Does that mean what he is saying about Dak is wrong or flawed? Absolutely not. While I am concerned, personally believe Dak will bounce back from the 2nd half of last season. But it is cautionary tale and shows that Kurt can be as wrong as anyone else about any specific player.

It's not a one or the other thing for me. I'm huge fan of both.

I think Romo was one of those QBs who could have led a team to the SB. Inattention to defense prevented him from doing that some years, but I also believe that Tony and his O could have been good enough to carry the team through that with just a little help from the offensive design. Tony and the Cowboys offense were good but a better offensive architect would have allowed Tony to be truly elite, IMHO.

I think Dak has demonstrated that he can play the position of starting QB in the NFL and play it well, and you couldn't ask for a better front man for your team. But he needs to show us that he is the guy who lined up under center in 2016 and not the guy from the second half of last year. For me he doesn't need to play like an MVP this season but he needs to be better. He needs to be not only the leader for whom guys will run through a brick wall but also a leader who lifts his team by performing excellently on the field, game in and game out, and from me he gets the benefit of some time to become that. He wants to and works hard to make it happen, and I believe wholeheartedly that he will.

So I agree with Warner. I have high expectations for Prescott and I'm always a wait and see kind of critic, and at this point I'm not doubting.

This post is 100% ON THE MARK. Good job.

Bashing is a harsh word...

all I said was to put away the anointing oil for the time being.

No it's not, some fans' comments are completely ridiculous.
I never quoted you.

The funny thing is no one would be the least bit nervous about Dak had his career followed the track of Romo and Warner, neither of whom took a live snap their first 3 years. But NFL people gave them time to grow and were rewarded for their patience..

Dak is held to high standard for having the audacity, I mean ability, to play as a 4th round rookie and people are ready to write him off in year three (if they haven't already).

True. People seem to forget that QBs like Peyton Manning and John Elway had bad rookie seasons and they were taken at the very top of the draft. Most NFL QBs do not start off well. The ones that do, such as Marino, are the definite exceptions.

I enjoy Warner’s input.

He pretty much told us what we know.
Warner....
  • loves Dak’s leadership and intangibles
  • specifically did not mention anything about passing ability (good or bad)
  • thinks he had a great rookie year but was “sledding uphill” last year
  • believes we should give him time to develop and for the offense to get catered to whatever his strengths might be.
I think almost everyone here agrees with those observations

One other thing he said rhat some here might question is that Dak will be the Dallas starter for a long, long time. He also said he believed that tobe true but did not say just how good he thought he'd be. And stated not sure if itd be enough to get us over the top

Actually it became easy to bash him last year. And I went on record as such.

We, as fans, got somewhat spoiled by his stellar rookie preseason which in turn carried over into the regular season.

Last year there was plenty of blame to go around. Being the Dallas Cowboys quarterback will always be at the top when things go sideways.
It doesn't mean it's realistic.

In your dreams he might be the franchise QB but in reality myself and a whole lot of other Cowboy fans are not sold on Dak and being we're America's team why shouldn't demand a Brady or Rodgers at the helm?
We won 5 super bowls rings with top Quality QB and if you think our Cowboys will become the Cleveland Browns for Dak Prescott your in for a major correction there!!!!!!! Dak simply doesn't have what it takes talent wise to have the most coveted position in the NFL under his supervision.....he has this last opportunity come kick-off time to prove to all of us including yourself that he is indeed a Franchise QB who can move the offense with his arm not just driving the bus for Zeke....

Just go get bent. Your crap is getting old.

To be fair, he did say Eli Manning was the worst QB he's ever seen play at one point....

I have maintained for a good while that Eli was not an elite QB because his play has been so up and down over his career, he can look like a world beater one season and looks like clueless rookie other seasons. Elite QB can bring the good every year.

I agree. I think we have some fans who are just unsure about Dak and want to see more from him. Then we have fans who just do not like him nor feel he will ever play to a high level and unwilling to give him a chance. Myself I fall closer to those who want to see more from Dak in this coming season. I can't say he will be our QB for the next several years, I can say I hope he is. In my view this is a defining year for Dak

Just watch the 4th quarter YouTube video of Dallas @ Green Bay winning 30-16. Dak was really good that day.

However, when things started to break down, he always found Witten to move the chains. I am not as worried about the new receivers.....yet. But that safety valve is something this team will need. Because defenses will still stack the middle up and force the ball out of Zeke's hands. I'm ready for the games to start.

For starters, he already is the franchise quarterback...and Tony Romo then retired. As to proving his value, he already has quite a bit of positive stats and recognition as well. To be a top shelf leader, the team has to fully support that role.

He is not a Rodgers or Brady...and everything evolving around him solely. He has a running game, a good one, and the make up of this team is around toting the pigskin and timing pass routes.

We shall see how the team evolves, but this fan isn't transferring doubt to the shoulders of Prescott. Sorry, he or Jerry, neither one, are my whipping boys for Monday Morning Quarterback's Club.

The money will dictate whether or not hes the next franchise qb. Clearly hes the starter, but we haven't committed to him yet.

I’m wondering if some of you even listened to what Warner said.
