Looks like Kurt may have taken one too many shots in his playing days and got his Cassel scouting report mixed up with Dan Fouts. That's pretty much the opposite of what Cassel brings to the table. Well, the interceptions when he tries to do too much is accurate though.

To be fair to Matt, he hasn't really played much over the last two years so he may be a bit different now. All we really have to go on that's immediate is this year in the preseason/training camp with the Bills, where reports such as this surfaced:

"Matt Cassel again did exactly what Matt Cassel always does. He threw safe, short passes and did nothing to distinguish himself."

But hey, let's go deep to Devin and Lucky!

So, best case scenario - Cassel plays well. Not great, but well. Romo comes back and we play out the season. Then the great debate begins. Romo only has at best a few seasons left. We MUST start planning for the day he retires. It is now officially time.
Cassel is good as a back-up, but is already an 11 year vet. He's not the answer. Moore is already in his 4th year, I doubt he's the answer - but is he the bridge ? So, do we drop a first or 2nd round pick - similar to what GB did ? Do we take a first rounder and sit him for 2-3 years of his first contract ? Do we take a second rounder and work on developing him. Any lower than those first 2 rounds and it becomes less of a talented player who just needs reps and refining, and more of a project.
I think if we could get a middle of the 1st. round type talent, and sit him. I'm all for it. We are not going to get the top tier QB's from this upcoming draft.
So the FO really has to do their home work......

The difference needs to come in the confidence to throw the damn ball into a smaller window than Weeden would. You can't score in this league if you don't throw the ball.

You don't really have to throw in small windows
Other than the pats game we've had guys wide open to throw to
Cassel can also throw to the sideline
One thing I don't get about Weeden is he can't throw to the sideline which is odd for a guy with a strong arm
Too me though weedens biggest issue is it takes him too long to make a decision

Yeah, I'm starting to feel a little better about Cassle. I think with the pass protection our O-line will give him, he'll play relatively well.

Wide open is fine but you have to make plays on third down esp if you trying to march down the field and win the game. You ARE going to find yourself throwing into tight windows at times or you are going to run or dump the ball off. I vote for door number 1.

QBs who make it this far have at least an arm big enough to make all the throws. The difference is primarily making your reads and progressions then being able to deliver the ball accurately at times into a tight window. If they have a cannon then so much the better.

Would rather have a quarterback who takes too many chances downfield then one who plays too conservative. You cannot play scared in this league. You cannot predetermine where you're gonna go with the football. You cannot just throw to one side. You have to look left, right, down the middle, across the field, have to be able to throw with anticipation and if all you do is throw short or underneath teams can just sit on routes.

Also Weeden is so indecisive. The longer you hold the ball the tougher it is on your offensive line and it allows defensive backs to plaster the recievers when you take forever to throw the damn ball. That's the problem with Weeden. He is so easy to gameplan for. You don't even really to game plan for him.

Cassel at least can do the basic things a quarterback needs to and has shown the ability to be aggressive and let it rip.
