Lack of a possession receiver hurts romo badly

That is the most important thing.

Hopefully this offseason Roy and Romo will get this fixed .....

But in saying that ...... 7 TD's is nothing to sneeze at.

I hope they get it fixed too. It's only gonna help things out.

7 TDs looks nice but only being valuable inside the opponents 10 yard line is a role player. Roy was a role player in a starting position.

Ummm…why are some posters in this thread so objective of the notion that a capable possession WR on the outside (in addition to Witten on the inside), who can do what Roy Williams has not done, would be good for Romo and the offense?

While this offense moved the ball well overall - better than many other offenses - it struggled closer to the end zone as the field shrunk, much worse than many of the higher echelon offenses.

A capable possesion WR could help mightily in those situations in improving scoring TDs, so I don't understand why people object, taking the notion of acquiring another capable possession WR as a knock on Witten. This acquisition would complement Witten not undermine him, and help socre more TDs.

Why is that so hard to comprehend?

All I'm asking is that you guys watch the games. Romo can't hit the broadside of a barn on a consistent basis.

It doesn't matter that Witten isn't a WR and that he's a TE. The completion percentage to him is 75.8% which is yes well above any other WR on the team. But here's the deal.... The number 1 WR on your team doesn't have to be a possession receiver, you need at least one possession receiver on the team to succeed (in this case it's a TE) but it doesn't matter as long as you have one.

Wow ..... explain how he is destroying every Cowboy passing record if that is true.

Ok. Ill try that. When do they play next? :laugh2:

There is no disadvantage with Romo. He has a all time TE, a young star in the making in Austin and a solid ROy Williams and Crayton.

What else does Romo need you ask?

A coordinator that adjusts to defenses and a better OLine.

I kind of agree we are ok with the weapons, although Crayton and Roy are JAG's. I would like to see a quicker guy in the slot a la Wesley Walker though to be a true threat underneath.

That said, fix the Oline and let Romo spend less time running around the pocket and those completion % numbers will go up. I really think his ability to move around has masked a mediocre pass blocking line that has trouble identifying blitzes.

Garrett will be fine, I think he's improved year over year here (and I was not a fan of his last year or even early this season).

Could Jordan Shipley be that guy? I know we have many other needs, but if he's available in the 2nd round do you grab him? Just asking the question.

Wouldn't mind that at all, would give a nice boost to the kick return game too.

This will be RW's break out year for us. If not I'll pack his bags myself or go Tonya Harding with a wrench to his knees...:scram:

Being a possession reciever is all about trust between the QB and the WR. Irvin was the ultimate possession type reciever and Aikman would force it in when he seemed to be covered because 1. He knew Irvin would run the route exactly right 2. He knew he would make the hard catch.

Romo trusts Witten even when he is seemingly covered for the same reasons.
Romo was making those throws to Austin later in the year for the same reasons.

Romo has no faith in RW11. You can see it in his reaction to Roy's drops. I think Roy is capable of doing both well. I think the drops came from a lack of confidence and the routes come from a bit a laziness. Both can be corrected, but the question is do we want to take the chance?

I would rephrase the title of this thread to be:

Lack of confidence in his possession receiver hurts Romo badly.

Having an all world TE is great but you really do need a WR who you have confidence in to get open and make the catch to keep the chains moving.

Sometimes the TE needs to help out with a ferocious pass rush or to create the illusion of run.

I know I would be happy to get Jordan Shipley on the team. However like every draft I hope we can get quality players without reaching. I don't get attached to 1 player in the draft. I see some who get so attached to 1 guy and when we do not get him the rest of us get the pleasure of hearing a them whine about it all season long.

i've not seen such stupidity in a post in quite some time. romo is setting records left and right and his qb rating is what - again? who else has started out in the same amount of years with a better rating?

all i'm asking is you leave drama/agendas at the door when you want to talk. looks like we'll both walk away disappointed.

Romo has a possession type receiver already... Roy Williams! They just need to work even harder in the offseason to get on the same page!

Maybe Jerry can find a "Romo friendly" possession WR this April.

My bet is the answer is already on the roster.

Romo isn't Troy Aikman when it comes to accuracy, however he's in the top 10.

Romo also passes the ball a lot more than either Aikman or Staubach.

Troy is my favorite player

Troy averaged 29 attempts and 18 completions per game (rounded)
Roger averaged 26 attempts and 15 completions per game (rounded)
Danny averaged 32 attempts and 19 completions per game (rounded)

In comparison

Tony averages 34 attempts and 21 completions per game (rounded)

And every one of those guys had wide receivers with better hands than Romo has had.

The fail is strong with this one.
