Twitter: La'el Collins update

The erosion of the offensive line continues right before our very eyes: first Frederick, then T. Smith, Z. Martin, and Collins.....with no viable back-ups who can step in and be reliable starters. So much worry about fixing the defense yet the offensive line is ignored......great approach in protecting your recently injured, recently extended QB.

Its true. This Oline just cant catch a break. If Collins is going already be dinged up all year things are already starting to fall apart.

If I never see Steele play another down for the Cowboys I'll be happy. He was horrendous. Why do people keep pretending he wasn't completely horrible? Might he grow into an NFL backup? I don't know, maybe, but I'm not interested in finding out yet. PS level talent that only made the team because the guys we cut may even be worse...

And this is like the 4th year in a row the Cowboys have gone out in FA to get a veteran swing tackle and the guy sucks.

The OT back-ups, none of them, exude confidence in the fans based on previous play....which is alarming if Collins can't go and then Smith goes down again......then it's 2020 all over again.

Nsekhe will start if Collins can't go. That's why he was brought here. If Nsekhe falters, then the nuclear option would probably be to play Martin at RT and McGovern at RG.

Despite some getting down on Nsekhe for a couple of bad plays in the preseason opener, he actually was pretty solid, especially at right tackle.

How many games did Martin play at RT?

Despite this, or perhaps because of it, Martin had his highest season PFF rating of his career.

Martin gonna Martin, at G or T. They should have cross trained him at T so that his body was ready for the different demands of T. I suspect the lack of such preparation last year is what led to his calf injury. His kick slide wasn't made efficient with reps.

I was against moving Martin out last year. But given his play last year, I would have prepared him for it this year, particularly because our best backup is McGovern, and it's not close. Moving Martin out to RT, if Collins is out, puts our best 5 on the field.

Looks like Collins is becoming the new whipping post. Cool

Yep, look out for us sadists; we're coming out of the woodwork. You've gotta love it when our players are writhing in pain! :)

I agree it would be bad, but you forget that even with Collins and Smith out this offense was putting up historic numbers pre Dalton. Now the running game wasnt very good, but the passing game was on point.

I have no doubt Martin can play RT at a high level without cross-training, but coaches seem to generally be against shifting offensive linemen around because of injury. Part of that is simply continuity. With a young center, are we better off with Martin playing next to him instead of McGovern? Also, we run behind Martin at guard a lot, so do we want to lessen our interior running prowess by putting Martin at tackle? Things like that are reasons, I believe, that Nsekhe will get first crack at it.

this is the kind of crap that WE the Cowboys do. We pretend that all is well when we should have done due diligence in the off season. We never learn. HERE WE GO week 1 and he's already hurt. We deserve whatever we get. Terence Steele, come on down.

what makes us think Ty stinky won't "falter?" He was bad all offseason.

Keep in mind though that without Smith and Collins Dallas had to use OT's that saw the pocket crumbling often and which led Dak to the very play he had to rush and got hurt. Healthy starters are always obviously better but the Dallas back-ups should cause great concern if they need to start.

100% agree!
Parsins better be the 2nd coming of Lawrence Taylor or this organization just made a catastrophic mistake! I placed bets on draft night with fellow fans-saying not drafting Slater was a huge mistake because I told them our OT's would not stay healthy this season... once again.... I sure as heck hope I am wrong!!!

Its not an optimum situation. But lets now act like the offense will be done if those guys go down. As long as Dak is in charge with these receiver we have a shot to put up lots of points. Dak is not a statue back there that cant avoid pressure.

It really wasnt the time to draft an OT in the first round. We had to see what Collins and Smith had left. Parsons was 100% the right pick. Now if Collins and Smith do this all over again, then yah, its priority #1 next season.

Rebuilding the OL needs to be a priority in the coming years

Clearly 2020 saw the defense and OL have horrendous years and with Smith sucking it up and LVE having his 5th year option declined, I can see why Dallas took Parsons....but then again had they gone OL seeing as how Collins lost the year due to injury as well as Smith, I do not think many would have been upset. Ultimately it is a crap shoot and given Dak's recovery from his ankle injury Dallas better hope Smith and Collins make it the whole year.

While video is being shown of Dak throwing, I have not seen much of his running and you can bet against the TB defense he will be facing a lot of pressure and will need to scramble.

Why are we all of a sudden worping to the Tampa game? We were talking about the season in general if the two tackles go down. Obviously against better defenses things will be more difficult.

I am not expecting the Cowboys to win against Tampa. Too many unkowns for me with the Cowboys to have confidence. And Brady and company looked unreal last week in the two drives they had. Off the charts ridiculous.
