Lance should be the second quarterback

Lance could get on the field if the Cowboys have two QBs on their 45-player active list. A third QB from its Inactive list is permitted to dress for the game, but if they enter the game during the first three quarters, the other two quarterbacks are thereafter prohibited from playing. Which is why it’s unlikely the Cowboys use Lance as a situational QB unless they make him the backup for a game. The Cowboys are just wasting their time with him unless they can find a way to utilize him.
Yea if Lance were good enough to be the backup qb then he could conceivably get a package but he isn’t. If Lance had won the backup job Cooper Rush wouldn’t even need to be on the roster.

That’s because they’re quarterbacks are going to be used as quarterbacks. Trey Lance is used for trade bait.
The chances for trading away Lance for something were always slim from the beginning. Using him as a gimmick won't do anything. They took a relatively cheap chance to see if he had anything of value to provide. Looks like it hasn't worked out and they will likely move on at the end of the year, if not even sooner depending on the season plays out.

You still need 3 QBs in case of an emergency. Forgot who lost both their starter and backup during a game a couple of years ago and they created a new rule because of it.

Yes, they are wasting his time, our time and then resources that we traded for him.

It was the 49ers in the NFC championship game. It really isn't a new rule. They just brought back an old rule.

You’re probably right. Just what a waste.

No matter what eventually happens with him - trade, long term backup, future starter etc. - Lance needs snaps in blowouts like yesterday.

Also, he has potential to be useful on special plays and inside the 10.

Cooper Rush can still be the starter in case Dak is injured for a few games. But we don't need to see him hand the ball off and take a knee when we're 26 points ahead In the fourth quarter.

We invested in him. We should use some game time to develop him.
SHOULD LMAO some of y'all got big egos you're not GM ,stay out of it ,

he hasn't done anything to deserve the backup position yet... The coaching staff is doing this on purpose they literally are keeping him grounded and we have the better player to help us in short term at Cooper rush... That means if there was a major injury where Prescott was out for the year and it was probably gonna mean we're gonna lose this year and there is no reason to try to win games then yeah they would flip it and they would make Trey Lance the starter for the rest of the year it's not hard to change your position depth chart right now this is the best thing to do in case Prescott goes down in the game for a series where he's out a game or two Cooper rush is the better choice... You trying to win games that's what you're doing you put in the better player right now Cooper Rush gives us the best chance short term..

And we don't need to see Trey Lance handing the ball off or taking a knee how is that helping him he's already good running the ball and taking a knee milking the clock Cooper rushes in there in case Prescott goes down for a couple of series or a couple of games you can't have Trey Lance come in before Cooper rush Cooper rush can only come in if the first two quarterbacks will be out So what if Prescott goes down for a game it's really close in the third quarter and we need to win that game trey lance is not the answer bro give it a rest..

Next question on Lance
....would he be a better change up RB than Duece?
He would be the one RB that could at anytime take it to the house

Trey is a break in case of emergency option. Jerry wasted a 4th round pick, so this offseason just move forward and take the loss.

Agreed but they obviously don't trust him if he would have to play in a tight game.
not many teams put tons of faith in their 3rd string dev qb.

feel free to correct me if im wrong. or just snark off.

He’s not fit to be a backup. I’m not even confident he would put together more than a single first down every third drive, if that.

Investment is over. He won’t be on the team in six months.

I can say with confidence Trey Lance is better than Skylar Thompson for Miami.
So, maybe see if their GM is drunk and get some picks for Trey? lol
