Lance should be the second quarterback

No matter what eventually happens with him - trade, long term backup, future starter etc. - Lance needs snaps in blowouts like yesterday.

Also, he has potential to be useful on special plays and inside the 10.

Cooper Rush can still be the starter in case Dak is injured for a few games. But we don't need to see him hand the ball off and take a knee when we're 26 points ahead In the fourth quarter.

We invested in him. We should use some game time to develop him.
Lance just isn’t good. He couldn’t operate against scrubs in the preseason. Dupe someone into giving us something - ANYTHING - for him.

I’m sure the Cowboys would love to unload him for something. But no one trades draft capital for a “situational QB”. No one needs to have a “crystal ball”. Teams will draft QBs in the 4th thru 7th rounds of the 2025 draft rather than sign Lance, who is a free agent on March 12.

There will be another free agent on March 12. His resume has 93 NFL starts, a W/L record of 47-45-1. He has a Super Bowl ring, and may have a second one after this season. He had a shot at the NFL, too. He made the most of it. He is a career backup now. Ironically he played at NDSU, too. The last two teams that acquired him did not have to trade anything for him. And he is being paid less than Lance this season, despite a resume Lance cannot even dream about. That is the QB market Lance will be competing in.

If you did have a crystal ball, what do you think it would tell you about Trey Lance’s NFL future. I don’t have a crystal ball, but I just asked my grand daughter’s Magic Eight Ball about Lance’s professional football career. The response was “Outlook Not So Good. Sorry.
Someone might see more than just a situational QB with him if he could make some plays if given a few opportunities during the regular season. He obviously doesn’t have a long future with us now that Dak has been extended. Let’s say Dak were to suffer an injury that keeps him out for a few games or the entire season and Cooper Rush isn’t getting it done. They could turn to Lance and if he were to play well he would definitely have some trade value then. Everyone knows the outlook for his NFL career is not so good. I’ve been saying that all summer. I was saying that immediately after we made the trade for him. If you think I’m saying he has a future in the NFL, you got it all wrong. If any young QB gets an opportunity during the regular season and performs well that would give them some trade value. Right now Lance has zero trade value, but if he were to get an opportunity and play well, he would then have some value. It’s not hard to comprehend what I’m saying.

Unless Dak gets hurt that isn’t really a conversation worth having. Lance isnt good enough to beat out Rush for QB2, and he can’t get in the game as an emergency QB3 unless both Dak and Rush are hurt in the same game.

Lance......right now......should be thankful he has a key card to the facility, can hold a tablet, attend meetings, be on the sideline during games, and travel with team.

Of course Dak would have to get hurt and Cooper Rush would have to get injured or suck replacing Dak before we would see Lance take over the team. Lance wasn’t good enough to beat out Rush. However, there could be a point in the season where the Cowboys might try to use Lance as a situational QB for a play or two, to allow him to use his legs. It’s not real likely but it’s a possibility because he does run well. Like I mentioned he had 160 yards rushing in the preseason and rushing TD. He could be dangerous with his legs deep inside the red zone.

Why not throw him into the fire and really see instead of making it up in your head?

That won’t happen. It would take at least 2 to 3 weeks for an outside QB to learn our playbook. Lance wouldn’t have made the team if the Cowboys had that little faith in him that he couldn’t even backup Cooper Rush. It would be a complete waste of a roster spot if he’s not good enough to be the third QB.

I’m not. You’ve been here and on their *** all offseason. Maybe you skipped a week to go to “The Cowboys Hater Convention.”
No wonder why people have a problem with you, you’re a little bit disturbed I think. I challenged you to show me a post where I was negative about anything cowboy.

Constantly checking down is an indicator of not grasping the playbook.
That has nothing to do with not knowing the playbook. He’s been with the team a full year. He doesn’t have the confidence to go downfield. He was playing mistake free until he started taking more chances. He doesn’t see the field well.

Lack of confidence in knowing the play book will do that to you.

Yes, checking the ball down to an uncovered receiver is not a definition of knowing the playbook.
