Like I said, great physical talent, amazing abilty, but can he harness it? He may only have 2-3 good years left, he is 27 already

True, but Bill is in a "win now" mode. I actually see him in Philly.

My guess? He goes to either Pittsburgh (his hometown) or out to San Diego (his best year was under Marty, he loves living on the water, and his boy Shawn Merriman is out there)

Those are my guesses. But like I said, I do not think he is the same LB he was back in 2001, 2002

And he has yet proven himself to be able to play within a defensive scheme

LaVar definitely intrigues me. Physically talented, fits the 3-4, but plays outside the scheme too often. I'd love to be a fly on the wall in Parcells' office right about now to see if he'd give this move any consideration.

My concern is I'm not convinced LaVar is the same player since his injury. He had a double-digit sack season a few years back and seems to have gone south since.

If Parcells' gave him the freedom to roam the way LT did, he could be a monster. He was still our biggest playmaker last year, and had a number of 10 tackle plus games.

Except Bill hates undisciplined guys as much as Williams.

It doesn't terrify me in the least bit

He is a great physical talent, but will he fit in with the scheme?

Can he play at the level he played at in 2001?

Are his injuries past him?

Parcells let LT freelance and look at the results. The year Marvin Lewis let him freelance he had over 10 sacks and over 100 tackles.

Marvin Lewis never let him freelance. As a matter of fact there were many articles early that season of Lavar *****ing about having to play DE, and he was not enjoying himself

It turned out to be a harbringer of the amount of *****ing and moaning and opening his mouth Lavar did (the Washington Times article before the last game of the year was complete crap)

Like I said, I loved the guy in DC, but clearly it was time to move on. He isn't quite the player he was back early in his career and has never proven himself willing to play in a system

My question is, what do they do with all the Eastern Motors commercials they run in this area with Lavar in it?

I guess this is what I don't get about Arrington. From what I recall reading earlier, he only recorded like 1 sack and no interceptions last year....but he was a playmaker?

Was it a matter of making the difficult tackle at the right time -- preventing first downs, stuffing runners on third & short, forcing fumbles, etc?

Well, he was benched half the time.

Was it a matter of making the difficult tackle at the right time -- preventing first downs, stuffing runners on third & short, forcing fumbles, etc?

He had a big pick in the Tampa playoff game.

Numerous tackles in the backfield for a loss, busting up reverses, big time hits, causing turnovers.

I still think he has awesome talent and could very well be a better player in a 3-4 type scheme then a 4-3. I feel sad that he's gone as I think it was more an issue of the cap peril it gives us over a number of years.

He'll sign somewhere else, be reasonably paid, and have a Pro Bowl season. Thats what makes me sad.

I don't see it that way. I know Lewis was frustrated at times, but he didn't reprimand Lavar for freelancing after it became obvious that this is the type of player he is and is most effective in that kind of situation.

Look at our run defense in the games where Lavar played 1st and 2nd down versus the games he was benched.

You are gonna have to say more then numerous tackles for loss, busting up reverses and causing TO's

He picked off a tip pass in the playoff game. I can only think of one big hit, and that was on Alex Smith in the 49ers game

Here are his stats from this year

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=5031

47 tackles

0 Forced Fumbles

0 interceptions

0 sacks (granted he was pulled on 3rd downs)

I am not seeing how you saw him as a dominant force THIS year Riggo. Maybe back in 2001, or 2002, but certainly with the injury, and his falling out of favor with Williams and the D staff, he was not a force on our team at all

I am curious how much over when the re-structures are announced.

If there is a new CBA a completely different story

One thing is for sure, Marcus Washington isn't getting cut! :lmao2:

I just hope he winds up in San Diego and not in the NFC East. When he's emotional and fired up, he's still one hell of a player IMO. He just got into Williams' doghouse and never found his way out.

It sux to lose him but come on...he was a backup on our squad until the Philthy game......For the price we'll make due.....

He needs to be in a attacking defense like Trotter and the eagles....remember how much better he was when they told him to crash up the middle every play./......

Actually it was the SF game when he really began getting his snaps.

Its funny I wnet back to ES to do a search on Lavar to see what Skinshokie had said aboout him in the past and it seems they have removed The term lavar arrington from their search engine. Because no matter who I use there are no matches in a search. Someone covering their *** they prasied him before and put him down now.
