LB DeMarvion Overshown is going to be nice in Dan Quinn's system!

I'm going to go on a limb (probably a bad idea with me being a horse) and say that he's going to emerge as one of the better linebackers in the league by the end of the regular season. I really like this player, and I think Quinn is going to do wonders with him.

You nailed it, @Hawkeye19 !

I don't think it's a coincidence Micah is suddenly being made to gain weight and muscle in order to become a full-time Edge DE. Pretty sure Overshown being drafted has a lot to do with it.

I can see him being a second chess piece for us. He's got excellent quickness, and, due to his safety background, he can likely also be moved around where needed. So, I can see where he and Parsons tag team to make the QB's life miserable.

I hate to break it to yall. Overshown is a special teams guy right now. He probably wont see many snaps on defense unless injuries come into play.
After he was drafted, th ESPN & NFLN analysts said he is perfect to use as the spy for QB's such as Hurts. Can track and run them down.
I am sure Quinn will utilize his speed for this. He may not be used a lot in some games depending the QB, if that is true what they said.

He is a 3rd round pick, he will get on the field, or should be given the opportunity to.

Would be cool...replace the canonball with a :star:

Overshown will feel a lot better to fans if we describe him as the S/LB tweener that he was at UT.

He is a Jayron Kearse type guy. Very, very athletic and will be able to spy QBs as well as chase RBs.
And if you want to put a bigger slot in the game versus Dallas he can match up there.
Early in his career he can definitely dominate on special teams.

Compared to what they have now he is more athletic than Clark and more physical than Cox.
Its why they paid the R3 premium to get him.

Pre-draft I looked at Overshown as a Kearse replacement at Rover, I mean he looked made for that position imho. However, the Cowboys are looking to make him a full-time LB, and adding some pass rushing to his assignments. I guess it's a case of them wanting DO attacking at all times kinda like they did with Micah...let someone else play going backwards.

I'm waiting for just 1 of these hyped linebackers to do something. Cox, Clark now him. Prove it somebody
Cox has certainly been a disappointment. We drafted him essentially to be the replacement for Keanu Neal in that nickel coverage linebacker role. For whatever reason, he hasn't been able to seize that spot, leading us to sign Anthony Barr last year, and now we're essentially replacing him with Overshown.

I actually feel Cox has played pretty decently when given the chance in preseason, but I think there are some problems with him either understanding the system or sticking to his assigned role within it. When he knows where the ball is and can attack, he's pretty good. When he has to diagnose, he struggles.

Right now, he's really nothing more than a special-teammer, but maybe the light will go on in his third year. However, it does seem like we're hedging our bets against that.

Although he could end up in the Kearse role eventually, I believe that we drafted him to play the Barr role in the nickel. Our starting linebackers on run downs will be Clark, LVE and Parsons. Our starting linebackers on passing downs would ideally be Kearse, Overshown and Clark/LVE.

Good point, because in running down n distances you'll want Clark in there to help vs the run. Then, in passing situations DO would be the preference at WILB (Nickel LB) when DQ puts those chaotic, creative 3rd long groupings on the field.

Exactly, especially with some of the packages Quinn will want to run (depending on the situation), I could see DO and Micah Parsons on opposite sides. For example, if it's 3rd and 4 and the Eagles are wanting to do an RPO to set up a Hurts run while isolating Micah (like they did last year), then Quinn can now counter by sending Micah after the QB and DO after the RB. Should turn it from a gain to a 2-4 yard loss. Now, the Eagles would have to punt or kick a FG as opposed to getting the first down or being able to do that sneak they like to do. That's where I think DO becomes a massive weapon for us.

Cox's biggest problem was probably that Kearse was playing a position he was suited for. That 3rd safety hurts him. I am still hoping that Cox gets on the field.

Kearse is in year 8.
I believe year 1 Overshown will play backup to both Clark and Kearse.
By year 3 I think he has Kearse's position, however.
