Quinn can have fun with this kid
It is like he was made just to play for Quinn.

Everything I’ve heard or read from any analyst or ex-player since this pick has been positive. Everyone seems to like what this guy can do and they think he loves to play football.

Any player that loves to play the game and is long and athletic can find a place on my defense. He can do a lot. His ability to make his way through trash and find the QB isn’t a common trait. A lot of guys have problems doing that and will just run into a pile of people. Overshown somehow gets through it all. It is a very promising trait for a LB to have.

He's not really going to see the field this year unless there are injuries. Overshown is basically a Kearse replacement, I doubt they see him as a 3-down Mike/Will in nickel sets.
His selection SCREAMED Kearse replacement to me. However, I do think he'll see the field. His speed is just something you can't hide or not use until 2024.

Plus, DeMarvion Overshown has always wanted to be a Dallas Cowboy!

I'm waiting for just 1 of these hyped linebackers to do something. Cox, Clark now him. Prove it somebody
This is a question that really needs answering. I have seen post after post over the years about the greatness of this hybrid position. I would like just one of these hybrid players to have a breakout season and become a difference maker.

I don't think he's a Kearse replacement. The team said it sees him as a linebacker.

I think he's a Barr replacement as a nickel linebacker. We drafted Cox for that position, but he hasn't worked out, so we brought in Barr for it, but now he's gone. I think we'll have Clark and Overshown (if he's up to it as a rookie) out there as the two linebackers in the nickel with Kearse playing that hybrid safety/linebacker position.

Overshown might eventually take over the hybrid role, but I don't think that's the plan for this year. Both Kearse and Wilson have shown they can excel at it, while no one has shown they can excel as the coverage linebacker.

I didn’t like Cox, I liked Clark some but didn’t love his game tape… but Overshown I like. He will be put to good use in this defense.

He’s an easy mover and can do anything you want him to do. He should be great in coverage.

He does need to be a better tackler but that about all that he really needs to work on. Just learn the scheme and work hard and I can’t imagine him not being a good player.
What you not like about Clark's tape, bro?

He just didn’t look real instinctive to me. Like there is a little indecision in his play. Sometimes that will go away with snaps, so I’m not saying that I don’t like him. He was very good value where Dallas got him.

Clark has good athleticism and size, so there is a lot to like about him, and with pro coaching he could improve his processing quickly. I felt about him kind of like I felt about Trenton Simpson this year. He just needs to improve on how he responds to what he sees so he can flow and play faster.

Cox just doesn’t seem to like contact very much, and for me, that is a killer for any position… particularly LB. I think he was worth a shot in the 4th round, so I didn’t hate the pick, but there is something missing in his game. What is more important is the team thinks there’s something missing there too it seems.

The question of getting him on the field is a question of who you're taking off. Unless he somehow surpasses Clark for a nickel LB role, he's not going to pull Wilson or Kearse off the field.

He's good depth for now and will have a chance to make his impact when Kearse's contract expires after this year.

I like his athleticism but I still cringe at UT players. They are coddled from the moment they step on campus and it shows.

Kearse is a hybrid player - most safeties are, really.

The problem is that even the best safeties or off-ball LBs in the league are not difference makers.

Drew Sanders is not as fast or athletic as DeMarvion Overshown. Why would you want a lesser talented player?
I'll tell you why I wanted Sanders. Because I want a starting LB on this team that can tackle and play LB on run downs, not just one who can run and jump. I'm all for Overshown and think he will be good on 3rd downs and STs, but so would Sanders and overall Sanders offered more what this team needs IMO.

When I say "see the field," I'm not saying he's going to start. But he will get some playing time, and I suspect he will be rushing from the edge or blitzing in some packages.
He's not likely to memorize the entire playbook in a year, but he just has too much speed to keep on the sidelines.

Like many here, I'm really excited to see how Overshown develops. Dude is quick and is a thumper and you can tell he loves being physical. I would think they will add him to a couple of sub packages early and increase his snaps as he develops.

He's going to play teams and maybe get 5 snaps a game in special packages. It's not like he's faster than Jabril Cox, who certainly hasn't forced his way onto the field.

The blitzing component is no different than what they do with Wilson and Kearse, and he's not going to get edge reps ahead of Micah, Williams, DLaw, Fowler.

I like him, but his time will be in 2024 at the earliest.
