I think Rat is looking like the better regular season player. but Leon was a terror for opposing offenses in the playoffs and superbowls. now I will say I thought Rat gassed out in 2007 cause we had no depth with Fergy getting hurt that year and last season. hopefully this season he stays healthy and combined with Junior spelling him he stays fresh for the playoffs. than he will have his chance to make some plays in the postseason. I do think he has been our best defensive player through the 1st half of this season though.

Sorry, El Gato Grande... Jay is totally reliable. You coulda been great, Big Cat - maybe even HOF great. But you had other 'priorities'.

Ratliff seems to be unencumbered by such baggage. Keep it up, Jay.

This is one time when the 'Rat' takes the 'Cat'.

Leon was great, no doubt about it, but as others have mentioned I don't know that he became as great as he could have been. With Ratliff I think he's giving 110%. If he keeps it up, I think he'll end up being in the same catagory as Randy White or Charles Haley. Gotta go with JR.

I'll take Lett and his 3 rings. ;)

We when 3 Super Bowls easily without him.

And as we've seen this year w/o the distractions of TO, Tank, Pac Man and Ellis...........

The team could have been better off without him.

He was surrounded by multiple Hall of Famers and multiple guys who were the best or near the top of their position.

Crimoney Sakes!!!! Ratliff and yes it's not even close. i loved watching Lett play, but Rat is a starter and Lett did not start early in his career. When Lett got the opportunity to start he was not reliable at all. I remember having to watch a so so DLine back in the day and Lett was serving an 8 game substance abuse suspension. Ratliff ALL the way!!

Some of you must not have been around when Lett was in his first camp.

I'm sure he had a great camp.

So did Martellus Bennett

There's a lot of good ol' day syndrome in this thread. I'm not saying Lett wasn't good, but he sure as hell wasn't Ratliff.

I understand many fans are a little upset at Lett because he shortened his career with his stupidity. If you take away his off-field problems, the 6-6, 305 pound Lett is just as athletic as the Rattler.

One other facet for Leon Lett. Even though the Rattler has yet to be involved in huge playoff games (i.e. Conference Championship games and Super Bowl), Leon Lett played in seven of those.

- Who stripped Thurman Thomas late in the 2nd quarter of Super Bowl XXVII that set up Aikman's 2nd TD pass to Irvin?

- Who stripped Thurman Thomas in the 1st half of Super Bowl XXVIII that set up one of Boniol's field goals?

- Later in Super Bowl XXVIII, who stripper Thurman Thomas that directly led to James Washington's touchdown that tied the game?

- Who was it, in Super Bowl XXX that was primarily responsible for that 4th and 1 stuff near mid-field that held off an inspired Steeler team?

- In the 1993 Divisional Playoff, who stripped Brett Favre in the 1st quarter that gave the ball back to Dallas (preventing an early Packer lead)?

- Who was partially responsible for Dave Wannstead and Butch Davis to be very successful on rushing only three players on 3rd and long many times in the early to mid 90s?

Leon Lett has had many great plays. Don't be so eager to put the Rattler in front of him.

Leon Lett made BIG PLAYS in BIG GAMES!

If the Rattler can make big plays in December and January like Leon, then not only can we say Jay Ratliff is the greatest 7th round draft pick in Cowboys history, but Dallas might consider to make room on that Ring of Honor.

It would be wonderful to see the Rattler along side Lilly and the real Manster (Randy White) on that prestigious ring.

I just don't think he is there yet - but he is not too far away.

could Lett play nose in the 3/4? probably not--but wouldn't you love to have Lett and Ware coming from the blind side on passing downs, with Ratliff up the middle--we'd see a lot of QBs rolling out right

and i always felt bad for Lett, small town quiet guy who was never comfortable in the spotlight and kept screwing up to be in it

Like he didn't have three great seasons to follow those. Sounds like you're weren't around for that. A small point anyway. Just because Lett was more talented early in his career doesn't distract from the fact Ratliff is one of the best NTs in the game. Today. Ratliff, if he remains healthy, will surpass Lett by far. Leon destroyed what many thought could have been a HOF career. He was that good.

From one realist to another, my point is really tongue in cheek. Lett has the rings. Here's to Ratliff getting some too...

What a lame response.

How the F would you know.

You're right.....and I wasn't around to see us lose to the Steelers in 76 Super Bowl. Or Dorsett as a rookie. Or "The Catch". Or the Hershell trade, etc, etc.

On track for HOF career?

Laughable.

Here we are back to Randy White/Bob Lilly status.

Was he anywhere close to be as good as Glover/Sapp?

No.

White/Lilly?

No.

Stop the HOF BS.

I am glad someone remembers because at one point I thought people decided to simply forget just how DOMINATE Lett was. Hey, we all love Rat and his motor. We love the underdog story of being a late round pick. We even love how he take his job so seriously. But guys please take a sip of Letts kool-aid and remember that Lett was BIG_TIME in BIG GAMES! HE showed up in the regular season but showed out in the playoffs.

I am lost on the Ekuban comparisons...He was more of a bust than Carpenter and Shante Carver!

Ratliff, and really it isn't that close. Even without his drug problems, it would still be easy for me to choose Ratliff.

The guy is one of the best that I've seen, and what is between his ears and what beats in his chest is way beyond what Lett brought to the team.

No offense to Leon, but for me, it is Ratliff in a landslide.

Your post is well stated. I look at this issue the same way.

Many fans just do not realize how good Leon Lett really was. He, along with Maryland, Casillas, and Hennings, really made life easier for Tony Tolbert and Charles Haley.

I just loved that defensive line rotation! Inside, the playmaker was Leon Lett.
