You can be productive at 32. Just like you can be productive at 42. That's not how you build a team though hoping a 32 year old is still in his prime.
I'm talking about the starters. Lawrence should be 27 or 28. Poe 30, McCoy 32 and you are suggesting signing Griffin which would be 32. That's a old defensive line.
I think at this point we are looking at stop gap signings for a couple of years. McCoy is essentially a 1-3 year deal at his price tag. The longer Griffen is on the market the more he is likely to be a similar deal for whoever signs him.
They have neglected the D line too long. Let Rod dictate who to draft and now are in a position where getting some veterans to step in, with known pedigree is sensible while they replenish in the draft. Since D-line is not very deep this draft, and Kinlaw and Brown aren’t too likely to fall to 17 they are doing fine to go this route.
I don’t really think end is deeper than tackle this year either. In fact the top prospects have question marks. Especially compared fo Brown or Kinlaw. I don’t think it is realistic to think in one draft we get a whole new d line for the next decade. It will take a couple of years to do it. Even our O-line took the same to build. I’m cool with some veteran stability to keep things solid in the meantime. So long as we start making better picks than we have been as far as d-line goes in April.
