Seems like they plan on moving him around and playing him in a number of spots. From what I've gathered, I'm guessing he ends up in Kearse's role before its all said and done.

Does Kearse's role persist of being both around the line of scrimmage ..as well as in some coverage secondary ?

Overshown as I understand has bulked up to 230 pounds.
I dunno if you usually find your average secondary guy bulking up at 230 pounds to be a safety.

if he is an around the line guy .. he's either gonna be a Donovan Wilson role ... or eventually a will LB that is also adept in coverage

i think Overshown will be a rover type his rookie and eventually be a Kwon Alexander -Deion Jones LB type .

i''m so hopeful he becomes that kind of very athletic ,very active, fly around, nose for ball, knack for big plays will LB for us .
A true impact, difference maker around the line of scrimmage.

Overshown has lots of raw athleticism. His upside is very high but I expect there will be somewhat of a learning curve his rookie year. My expectations are he will need some time to adjust to the pro game. Maybe by mid-season we will start to see some of his potential.
One problem we still have as we don' have depth at LB.

worse we do not have veteran depth at LB. We still have very young and vastly inexperienced LBs

LVE has a injury history. .. he goes down (again) we have ver little to count on as backup .. that was a huge problem last year
with Barr having nuthin in the tank ..
- rookie Clark struggling...
- Luke Gifford was more special teams than adequate LB ..
- rookie Harper tore achilles tendon (a difficult injury to recover from in NFL)
- and Cox was useless

i don't have faith in Cox whatsoever. I think he's done as coaches often kept him on inactive game day list most of season.
Cannot gain experience being inactive and not on the playing field- which simply does not speak value of him to team as a player.

- Either Quinn will choose to go nickel safeties as hybrid LBs as "depth" .. or maybe a cheap bargain vet OLB will be added in camp ..or end of camp at some point

I wasn’t a fan of Cox when he was drafted. He lacks physicality and just never impressed me. He was solid in coverage at LSU, but not much else.

People forget about Harper but I much prefer him to Jabril Cox. He has a physical edge to his game that I like (and Cox doesn’t have) and he is an athletic mover. He has potential that Cox doesn’t IMO. He just needed some coaching when Dallas drafted him… which he has now had a year of.

I think Harper will make the team before Jabril will. I will be keeping an eye on him in camp this year.
but, but, he concussed Daniel Jones.....

I see what you're getting at. Kam Chancellor played at 225. 230 is a bit high for a safety, but it isn't unprecedented in this scheme. I'm seeing a hybrid LB/SS that can do it all, but if he can be a playmaking linebacker, especially early, that would be big for this defense.

If he does land a safety gig, I see Wilson as a better player than Kearse, and would rather keep him around if it comes down to choosing between the two...hence Overshown sliding into that role. Thankfully we don't have a cookie cutter defensive coordinator and I have faith that Q will carve out a role that optimizes D.O.'s talent, as well as positively affect the defensive units performance as a whole.

His game reminds me of a young Derrick Brooks. He's more polished as a pass rusher than Brooks was coming out of FSU, but I don't think his coverage abilities are quite at that elite level like Brooks's were. I could he wrong. Haven't had time to really dig into his film just yet. I just see a guy that diagnoses plays quickly and without hesitation, rapidly accelerates to and through the ball carrier. If he can hold up in coverage, and the limited film I've seen suggests he can, we have a helluva player and it doesn't really matter where he lines up.

Why do me fellow forum chaps go on about Overshown's "ceiling"?
It infers to me tha the Longhorn is pretty raw.
He seemed to be awol against TCU and Okla. state, if recollection serves.

Yes, I think he's going to play opposite Parsons as a complimentary piece to him.

We are not light at LB as we are heavy with LB/Safety hybrids.

Hope that works against teams priming to run against us. .all the more reason why we may be depending on a Hankins/Mazzi duo or rotation to
cover up the safeties in the run game.

Lets talk a bit about Demarvion Overshown.
6'4" 220lb rook with high ceiling.
Is DO playing behind Clark on the depth chart, if he puts some weight on does he compete with Sam?
Trying to figure out where this rook stud competes and finds his role early.
I used to have kids like this that didn't fit one position. I called them snipers and I would move him as needed to attack an offense. I've seen him play several times, in person at Texas.....he can help. I think Quinn will use him like he did Micah.

You think Tolbert's issue last year was having too much put on his plate? That's an interesting perspective. I'm trying to follow that line of thinking but Im struggling to come up with what he was asked to do with regards to various positions or roles that would have deterred his progress more than what any other first year WR goes through.
You ever heard of too much on your plate guess not

I've heard the saying a thousand times if that is what you are for some reason asking. What I am asking is what YOU heard that makes you state that was Tolbert's issue last year. It seems like an excuse or made up reason for him basically doing nothing and being totally unimpressive. I thought that was clear in my original comment. But, hopefully it is now.

It’s year 3 for Cox. It makes sense that if Cox doesn’t entrench himself on the initial 53 man roster he had better end up on IR to gain himself another crack at it next year, or hope for a practice squad spot to continue to develop. 53 man roster spots are far too valuable to use on a guy that never sees the field.

Man I'm rooting for him....but I just felt like we needed linebacker help last year and they wouldn't even put him out there. If he makes it out of training camp then maybe that means they feel better about him than I thought.
Jabril is a bust.

Yep, and Jabril Cox better figure out a way to back up LVE quickly or he will be cut this camp.
Kelvin Joseph has contributed more than Jabril Cox...

Nahshon Wright has contributed more than Jabril Cox.
