Ray Lewis hasn't been in the headlines during the longest work stoppage in NFL history, but that doesn't mean the man is without an opinion.

The longtime Baltimore Ravens linebacker said in an interview with ESPN that he believes the consequences of a lingering lockout will be negative and far-reaching.

"Do this research if we don't have a season -- watch how much evil, which we call crime, watch how much crime picks up, if you take away our game," Lewis said.

When asked why crime would increase, the 12-time Pro Bowl player said "there's nothing else to do."

Well, now we know how RayRay plans to replace the income he will lose if there is no football this fall :lmao2:

Also, Ray wasn't saying "Im going to go on a crime spree." He was saying football fans will have nothing better to do so there will be more crime among people who watch football normally.

That's the way I read it also. Not that the players themselves would. However, I do believe more players will be caught up in drinking and drugs. The younger players, who lifestyle was just without having sports and being disciplined enough to keep them on the straight and narrow line.

This is a stupid thing on Lewis to say, even though there may be a very slight truth to it. But he is using it as a bargaining chip. That will blame the owners for a crime spree if they don't settle.

If the people are going to steal or rob or even worse, they will do it anyway. Except now it might happen on a Sunday instead of a Tuesday.

No, the fans have everyday work jobs to keep them out of crime. Families, kids, all take that time that, according to him, would be spent holding up convenience stores, robbing old ladies on the street, ya know, creating mayhem and discontent.

It's the players who have "nothing else to do" His comments are describing players, not fans.

And he's wrong, if anything, the lockout will cause church attendance to rise, especially in the Pacific and Alaska Time Zones.

Finally, the C in "rap" is silent. But it's there.

The fact these BS threads get so much attention and the worthy ones don't is a cause for concern with me.

To defend Ray Ray, many of these players have off-season problems with the law.

I think Ray, in his unsophisticated way, is saying guys with more time on their hands, not in camp, not playing, will get into more trouble.

Sad but true. See Chris Henry, Brandon Marshall, Albert Haynesworth, etc.

I wonder how the crime rate among NFL players compares to those in other professions.

I don't know NBA roster size are small to begin with and many MLB players are not US citizens and go back home after the season is over.

Yeah i think it would be a wash. Take all the crime involving alcohol and overall game day rowdiness, subtract it then add the crimes that would be happening without football I am willing to bet crime might actually go down.

True, I saw 4 or 5 crimes at the Cowboys/Saints game this past season alone. :laugh2:

1 guy was a Saints fan sitting in front of me who got into with a Cowboy fan.

Just got here, but I have to say I agree with Lewis.

Some people on here have already stolen too much of my time with idiotic posts since the lockout started. :D
