Our coordinator ran a receiver deep to occupy the safety and create room underneath?

That's some genius stuff.

Love your sarcasm but I think we can all meet in the middle somewhere. Linehan deserves an immense amount of credit for getting this offense in gear. We always had the weapons and the potential but we never realized our offensive potential for an array of debatable reasons. The single most impactful change regarding the offense was the hiring of Linehan this off-season and I believe he deserves to be highlighted as a catalyst to getting us off to an early season start unlike any other in recent years. Three in a row. It feels good. Now we have a strong chance to make it 4 going into the statement game against Seattle. I digress though...

Yes. Garrett and Marinelli deserve credit but I firmly believe Linehan has taken us where we always thought this offense should go. Jerry also deserves a great deal of credit for bringing Linehan aboard.

I'm not saying Linehan is a savior but without him this year I just firmly believe we would be the same old highly talented no guts having unprepared run averting offense.

I get the sarcasm, but there has been a distinct lack of creativity and responsive adjustment over the years in Garrett's offense.

We are setting the table better, using play action to our advantage, including pick plays, and the running plays are far less trickery and more brute force.

So we should have used more brute force when Nate Livings was the G and Phil Costa was the C?

What about last year? Marginal improvements but the same highly talented unprepared false starting run avoiding offense. No guts No glory.

How about last year? Waters was the starter in the first few weeks and we still were insane about passing the football.

The Cowboys were executing the zone runs just as well late last season (with Murray at least) with Bernadeau. Martin is good, but it is a stretch to say he made the OL.

And as for the Livings/Costa situation, was it just Jerry Jones slamming them down Garrett's throat? Garrett was around and undoubtedly was onboard with all of the substandard interior linemen we have had.

While you are making it strictly a Garrett trust problem (a whole separate issue), but there are tweaks that have been made plus persistence (less finesse hence brute force) that is unlike anything Garrett has peddled out there on his own.

No, I do not regard Linehan as a savior, but he has added some small pieces that have been missing. And even those small twists can be the difference in winning and losing.

It is never always coaching or always personnel. There is a middle ground and hopefully we found that.

Everyone forgets we couldn't run consistently although I agree at times they abandoned it. And they forget Linehan passed in Det. Or that the entire league passes.

We are running the ball 'effectively' setting up the pass. And when they stack the box to stop the run, we are passing the ball effectively to balance the D and eventually set up the run. We are executing and avoiding penalties. Everyone is doing their job well and that's TEAM effort.

Yep!!!! This is where I wanted to see this offense get to, it allows us to force the hand of the defense. You want to stop the run fine we have the ability to attack you in the passing game, want to double on Dez, we got others who will beat you. You want to slow the passing game great we will run it down your throat.

Everyone was doing their job well last year and the year before but it still wasn't clicking. That was coaching no matter how you slice and dice it. While I completely agree it is indeed a team effort, Linehan is making a sizeable difference.

JJ is the MVP for taking his finger off the trigger & allowing better minds pick Zack Martin over Johnny Manziel.

Well Dallas was one of the most penalized teams last season, this year we are up their with the fewest in the league. Lot easier to continue to run when you are not having to back up 5 and 10 yards putting the offense in longer down and distant situations.

No doubt Zack Martin has been a great addition but I still believe we would be on a strong course with a solid plug in at that position and Linehan putting it all together. I consider having Callahan back at the offensive line coaching level more important than anything else that has happened to the line in the off-season.

The penalties speak to lack of preparation. ie. Coaching. Yes. I am very familiar with the fan frustration from recent years that appears to no longer be there.

Normally it has to do with getting beat up front, OL grabs when defenders get past them and tend to jump offside when they are getting beaten off the line at the snap. Yes that falls to coaching to fix that. As for Linehan I give him a lot of credit and I give the players a lot of credit because it still comes down to execution and avoiding making mistakes that put you in poor situations

We had a good offensive line last year, we were averaging over 5 yards a carry and went way to pass happy with Callahan.

Linehan is a difference maker, he gets it. I like what he is doing, looks like Cowboy Football.

Add Zach Martin and this offense has a chance to dominate.

Callahan always had great RBs. Who really knows what happens. It's already been reported by Jerry that Jason never relinquished play-calling and kept getting involved, which is why he had to send him to wander the defensive side of the ball. I'm not sure if it was simply being pass-happy or what. Jerry also mentioned the West-Coast philosophy trying to mess with the Dallas offense furthered the difference. It seems that Callahan wanted to move to a certain style and Garrett kept preventing it, so in the off-season, Jerry went with Linehan to call plays in the offense, without changing to a West Coast approach.

Better move overall...

We've already run more boot-legs for Romo in three games than the whole history of Garrett calling plays combined. Hell, Romo has broken the pocket and scrambled for major yardage like he use to do in the glory days, while for the last few years he avoided it. The guy is seeing the field right now, better than ever.

Matt Mosley was talking to Jerry in the "walk off" after the game the other night, and he said Jerry told them that basically, Linehan was the first coach in years who when he told Tony "Stop doing that", Tony listened.
.

But, but Tony goes to Garrett to basketball games and respects his football genius... I remember when Romo started yelling at Garrett last year, followed by Witten. This was I believe the Green Bay game, when Garrett took back the microphone..

Teams are manning up on the wideouts to stack the line against the play action, then turning to cover when they read the pass, leaving the underneath open. And our interior OL is able to create lanes blocking 5 on 5. When this happens and the coverage is there, the right move is for the QB to run, so that's why Tony is doing it, despite the sore back. It's not because Linehan is magically helping him to see the field. And it's not because we're 'running boot-legs.'

True, Tony is seeing a wide open field and taking the easy yards I hope he continues to do that.
