You must be kidding me ? Are you actually going to turn a Roy Williams WR thread into a Roy Williams SS thread ? You make me hurt .

I still think we need to look at WR either in FA or the draft.

Reality of it is, even if the Roy Williams wants to return to Texas, its foolish to "bank" on it happening. The Lions could always franchise him. Similarly, we could look for a cheaper alternative (via draft) because of pending contract extensions with Newman, Ware, Canty, Barber on the horizon.

Draft a day one WR, resign Crayton....

Owens, Glenn, Crayton, Drafted WR, Stanback, Austin or Hurd.

Good post, but remember one thing. The Lions gave a big contract to Mike Furrey, then went out and drafted Calvin Johnson and gave him a very big contract. They might not be able to afford to have that much money tied up in WRs. They are getting production out of McDonald.

Williams could very well be expendable to them.

I like Roy Williams but I would definitely be concerned with his injury history. Great player when healthy, but he's fragile. We already got a player like that in Burnett.

Looking at Roy Williams' stats, it doesn't look like he has missed a lot of action. Could he get along with TO? If he wants to come home to Texas (a laudable sentiment), would he come to Dallas at a small discount? Just sayin' ;)

I like the idea myself if the money is right. We'll see.

How big of a contract was given to Furrey? It can't be all that bad....

Secondly, with all the WRs they use; Furrey, Calvin, and Roy are all starters...They don't really use a RB; so they could be cheap at the RB position and afford an extra WR. Just a matter of where they wish to allocate resources; and since Matt Millen actually struck gold with that pick, I'd think he would want to keep him.

EVERY thread turns into a Roy Williams SS thread.. Actually, as soon as I saw this thread title, I thought to myself "Yep, this will turn into a Roy bashing thread at some point".. The original thread could be about a Chinese refugee saving 9 children from a burning building, and somehow, about 20 posts into it, I will inevitably see "Wow.. what an inspirational story! And boy, that Roy Williams can't cover!"

I do know the young lady that had Roy's child and see her often. Her dad and I coached fast pitched softball together and she was on our team.

I have seen Roy a couple of times and basically just said hi but he has told many people that he would like to be back in Texas. Don't know his preference but I've seen his kid with a Romo jersey on if that means anything.

They aren't married but he dotes over that kid. Active father whenever he is here. Mother lives in Midland not far from my home.

I would be in favor of trading for Williams but I have a different idea of a trade. Since if we could trade for him, it would leave us with way to many WRs, what about a trade that doesn't involve any picks. Detroit would need a WR and if we resign Crayton as expected and Stanback has excited the coaches about his potential, why not trade Hurd (WR), Carpenter (MLB) since he doesn't really have a place here and Detroit needs a LB and if we sign a FA CB like Samuels then trade Henry. Those 3 should be more than enough for Detroit to get Williams, heck knowing how McMillen operates it might get a 2nd round pick also.

I'm pretty sure Detroit can be talked into taking something for Roy with out breaking our bank. Just convince them that they don't want 2 high-priced WRs, he's leaving and they will get nothing for him, might as well take Carpenter & a 2, or Spears and a 2.

If that doesn't work, you know we always have Coakley on speed dial. ;)

I would love to have Roy Williams as a longhorns fan I enjoyed watching him and my hope was that one day he would play for the Cowboys. I don't know if this will happen but I would welcome it.

I wouldn't trade for him, but I guarantee you if I was Jerry i'd have one of my most trusted players texting him to get the inside scoop on if he wants to come to Dallas in 09. =P

To the poster who asked what kind of game Roy has, i'd say he compares favorably with T.O. He's a big physical guy, who can break tackles, and has good speed. Though his hands are about 100 times better than T.O.'s.

I'd love having Roy Williams line up for us. However, if we're talking about making a trade for a WR, give me Fitzgerald. If we couldn't get him, RW would be a great Plan B.

in 2005 Troy Aikman said Roy Williams runs the worst pass routes he has ever seen!

To me that would be hard to decide...Larry Fitz or Roy W, I haven't seen enough of Roy to determine if hes better than Larry

If he comes back to either Texas pro team he'll be in good shape.

Even in Houston with Andre Johnson on the other side they would be a dynamic tandem, Houston might even find a wildcard birth should that happen.

If he comes to Dallas he'll be a supporting player in their back to back Super Bowl bid next season.:D

Hmm what do you guys think?

I would love to have Roy Williams on the Cowboys, but I don't think we could afford him, especially if TO is still on the team.

Doubt we want to wait around until the chips fall with Roy Williams. However, since I don't follow the Lions and don't know much about Williams is he a speedy WR or a possession kind of guy? Also is he really that good? Would it be worth while to offer Detroit one of our first round picks for Roy Williams rather then draft a WR in the first round?

Roy Williams is a Randy Moss-type receiver. He's speedy and he goes up and wins jump balls. As for giving up draft picks, I personally believe it is a very bad idea to ever give up a 1st round pick - no matter how good the player - because you might end up with another Joey Galloway deal. It would make far more sense to wait until he's an unrestricted free agent the following year.
