Lions WR-Roy Williams likely to leave

Funny, some of the fans that called into the Talk Radio Show in Detroit yesterday, wanted Roy Williams to leave because they knew he wouldnt be happy in Detroit and he could maximize his career going somewhere else where they are committed to winning.

If that's their measuring stick, the Lions will soon have no NFL franchise due to lack of players...

I don't agree with you on this one Bob. I watch McFadden and I don't see AD. I never really have. I guess we will see more when combines come around but to me, AD is a much more physical style of runner.

As far as Roy goes, I don't think anybody knows if we will get him or not. Roy could easily be traded to a team and signed for big money in the off season. I think that it would be a gamble to depend on the fact that we would be able to sign him. Not saying it can't happen but definatly not saying that it would be a done deal.

If the question is, should we trade for him, then my answer would be yes. I would try and trade for him.

Roy Williams has never been to a pro bowl. Has one season of over 1000 yards and had only one year of over 70 catches. I doubt there's a big push for anyone to get Roy Williams.

If you projected his numbers across 16 games this season, he would have come up with 84 catches, 1114 yards, 7 TDs. Now, he won't reach those numbers because he is out for the season but clearly, he is producing at a #1 receiver pace after posting Pro Bowl type numbers last year. He is only in his 4th season on a very bad offensive team the previous 3 years.

In 4 seasons with Detriot, RW has posted the following.
244 Rec., 3650 yards, 28 TDs, 55 Games.


Our own TO did not post these kinds of stats in his first 4 years in the league.
222 Rec., 3307 Yards, 30 TDs 62 Games.

What would you have given up to get TO prior to the 2000 season where he goes on to post 7 1000 yard+, 7 70 catch+ and 84 TDs over the next 8 seasons?

Terence Newman has never been to a Pro Bowl. At some point you have to factor Crappy Quarterback play into the equation as well.

Is there any doubt that this guy wouldn't be a beast in this offense?

I don't believe that we've hit a home run with Spears, per say, but I do believe that we have a very decent rotation of talented players on the DL already. In addition to Spears, we have Canty, Hatcher, Ratliff and even Ellis who could probably play snaps at DE. Heck, I'd imagine that Tank could probably do it as well. Ferguson will be back at NT next season so you figure that either Tank or Ratliff will probably end up moving out to DE. Honestly, I think were pretty good at that spot right now.

Which is why I wouldn't be opposed to packaging Spears in a trade.

Agreed. Even if we get a star like Roy Williams or that top 5 list thats been circulating around here for months.... we STILL need to draft a good WR early-early middle rounds.

Hey, genius, I don't think anyone is gonna let go of a McFadden to get a middle to low first-round pick. Miami/Atlanta/St. Louis will want waaaaay more than what we can give.

Bidding will be high for McFadden higher than any ONE 1st-round draft pick and a "package."

3/4 of the regular season he played a big role.

He looks uncomfortable out there in that winter weather... he's not in the comfort of a dome or Oakland anymore.

Time to see is true colors.
