Ouch. Depends I guess on salary And hours. I'm assuming he makes 600k-1 mill a year.He takes the heat for bad calls and has to face a camera and explain what happened. Just look at the thrashing he takes on this board. Would you really want a job where you take that kind of abuse?

I'd have to see the hours involved.
I like Ed Hocculi. He has the gunzzzIt's a full-time job and he spent 20 years of his life in officiating. He helped implement the replay system and you can't just stick anyone in there to do it. It's a thankless job that puts him on the defensive all the time having to explain calls. He has the job because he's qualified to do the job. Anyone who has the job is going to take the same type of abuse, it's the nature of the position he has. Can you name one official that gets any respect from fans? They all get bashed.

He made a bad call a few years ago that had him under fire. Nothing draws the ire of fans like officiating calls. Officials have gotten death threats over calls, it's one of the most thankless jobs. Regardless what it pays I wouldn't want to have anything to do with officiating.

After those three posts, do you expect ANYONE to believe that you're not here on behalf of the NFL referees? I picture you holding a blanket over your head, protesting into the camera of a viral youtube video, "Leave Blandino alone!! Leave Blandino alone!!!"
If those numbers are true, that is pretty blatant and absurd.
He takes a trashing because he doesn't know what the hell he's doing. He is almost singlehandedly ruining NFL football. You are wrong...he has never officiated a game in his life. Watching video replays is not remotely close to on-field experience. Yet, he was given the job overseeing the officiating, with emphasis on the word "given" because he sure as hell didn't earn it. The NFL front office knew exactly what they were doing when they put him in that position. They put a goober who has no idea what he's doing in there so that they can control the officiating to their liking. He's too stupid to know that he's being used by Goodell. Or, maybe he does know that he's being used but doesn't care because he couldn't make one tenth of his NFL salary elsewhere doing another job (stand up comedian, maybe?).He takes the heat for bad calls and has to face a camera and explain what happened. We have to be good enough to overcome that...but that call was potentially a game-changer.
Yes, we've argued it before. Being a "reply official" is not the same as officiating the game live on the field. He has no experience on the field as an official, yet he was put in charge of all officials. He has no personal experience from which to draw on in his leadership role as head of officials. I really don't blame him for taking the job as much as I blame those who put him in that position. Bottom line, officiating in the league has become increasingly worse over the past few years with the number of high profile gaffs growing every year both in scope and number. Blandino is in charge of that and should be held accountable. He won't be, but he should be.We've argued this before and everyone who's held that job has been trashed. You're the one who's wrong because according to this Blandino spent 4 years as a replay official.
Blandino spent four years as an instant replay official and was selected to work two Super Bowls and two conference championships. He managed the NFL’s instant replay program from 2003 to 2007, including overseeing the system’s upgrade to high-definition equipment in 2007. From 2007 to 2009, he was director of officiating, the No. 2 position in the Officiating Department, under Mike Pereira.

Bringing up the officiating prior to a game is just preparing for excuses if we lose.
You discredit my view by saying that I'm just an "armchair fan" and yet, you're nothing more than an armchair fan youself...though the way you defend blandino, you may be dean, himself. We've argued all of this before and Blandino's expertise is in replay officiating. Replay officials determine the accuracy of calls made on the field. Blandino provides an extra set of eyes in booth reviews to try and get those calls right. This is his full time job unlike on the field officials who work other jobs when the football season is over. Officials miss a lot of calls on the field and some aren't even sure of the rules. One official called face guarding in the Cowboys/Lions playoff game in 2014 but face guarding is a college rule. The call that was made on Sunday had nothing to do with Blandino or the league, it was a mistake by the officiating crew on the field. Blandino knows the rules better than any of those officials on the field because he's trained officials and has been doing this for 20 years. He's not a bookkeeper, high school principle or has some other occupation during the offseason like on the field officials.
He's put on the hot seat every week on NFL Networks official review having to explain calls. He explains calls exceptional well but has a thankless job and has to take a lot of heat for mistakes that are made by officials on the field. Mike Pereira got roasted by FANS when he held the job. Anyone who takes on that job is going to receive the same abuse. Blandino was put in the position because he was qualified so stop acting like a typical armchair FAN who thinks they know better than the league. Mistakes and judgment are always going to be part of officiating and that will never change.

Based on your view, then, none of us should question any player or any coach or any official or any commissioner because none of us have the experience or expertise as players, coaches, officials, or commissioners that would give us a proper basis on which to question or criticize them. I really doubt that you as an "armchair FAN" have ever done that have you?
In that case, let's just go ahead and shut down all the fan based forums then, because none of us have the proper experience needed to question, critique, or even discuss anything related to the game. No armchair fans allowed...paid professionals only. Are you ******* serious?
I don't follow how you can think that not having any experience of ever having officiated a game as an on-field official doesn't matter for the position of "VP of NFL Officiating". He is IN CHARGE OF ALL ON-FIELD OFFICIALS, after all. He's an amateur who has no business being in that position. I''m pretty sure you're related to that clown with the way you defend him. He was wrong to overturn the Dez catch, and he defended the illegal huddle call from last game but in his weak dexplanation, totally left out the part that says the player has to communicate with teammates in order for the call to be justified. He's a shill. He defends the on field officials even when they're wrong. You may defend the idiot, but 99% of the fan base knows what he is. Then there's a very small minority out there that for whatever reason defend him in all scenarios.
