I know it won't happen, but...........would anyone give Jerry credit if he traded Lance for a 4th?

I would… no net loss in value and he gained the opportunity to at least observe the player.

It wouldn’t exactly be a home run trade, so the credit would be minimal… but certainly no reason to crucify him for it

Is the premise Trey has done nothing to elevate himself above Cooper Rush on the depth chart? Without a single preseason game being played, I'm not buying that.
Yes, he is a gamer. He is a phenom.

If he were to be traded right now you’d be lucky to get a 7th. If he tears up preseason, he is your 2

I predicted Lance would be cut by the end of camp. Still leaning that way.
i guarantee you he's not being cut it be the emergency 3rd just like last year.... i guarantee if he's not traded he's on this team...

No one is trading anything of quality for him...he is an FA next year..if he balls out in PS he will be here...if not they will just wait for the Cowboys to let him walk...

Chargers and Vikings are mentioned.

Who are teams that could make sense - even mild sense - trade for Trey Lance?
By RJ Ochoa Aug 3, 2024

We are just talking here. These are only words. They cannot hurt you.

Dallas Cowboys training camp is over a week in now and we are getting a chance to draw legitimate conclusions on this, that and the other. Trey Lance has been somewhat of a mystery to fans and reports to this point had been a bit all over the place, but on Friday he had what was undoubtedly his finest throw wearing a star on his helmet.

Obviously no NFL team is seriously going to trade for Lance based off of this throw, but you have got to crawl before you can walk, and this throw was our equivalent to screaming when the baby starts to scoot.

So if we live in the hypothetical where Lance is suddenly an asset that a would-be team could care about, we are still only halfway through the equation. Given that every NFL team is in the middle of training camp, there is nobody who really needs him at the moment, especially with him entering the final year of his contract.

We need to be looking at trade destinations for Prescot, because once JJ announces that both Rush and Lance will be QBing the Cowboys in 2024. Prescot and agents will not stand for this and will demand a trade......................LOL! Oh, I forgot...............BOOK IT!

If trading him was the plan you’d been smart to rave about how well he’s been doing lol
You say he’s trash and want to trade him lol

No. If that happens he would have the end result of him trading a 2024 4th round pick for a 2025 4th round pick. Thats a net loss, but he also would have carried a $5M+ cap hit all offseason for nothing when that's money that could have been used to bring in a free agent RB/DT. It's kind of like buying a stock, selling a year later for the same price and celebrating, but then remembering you actually lost money because of the brokerage fees and inflation rates.

I don't blame Jerry for taking a risk on a former 1st round talent, but I really only give him credit if the player works out. If Lance doesn't turn into a player this trade was a wasted move.

There has to be a better option than Trey Lance for a team that’s desperate at QB. I can’t imagine anyone wanting to trade for him. Very few teams were interested in him last summer. The way he’s looked this summer, no one would be interested if they’ve been listening to our camp reports. Lol Minnesota would be better off staying with Joshua Dobbs, who’s shown some flashes at times.
A team who would trade for him is a team who doesn't need a "better" option because their season is over anyway.

There are a lot of teams who could be in the QB market after this season who could just take a flier on Lance and actually give him game reps because they've gotten off to a bad start - it is a pretty long list. NOR, LAR, LV, NYJ, NYG, SEA, PIT.

If teams were going to take a flyer on Lance, they would’ve done it last year when he was available for trade. Hardly anyone was interested except the Cowboys and Bills. Buffalo only offered a 5th for him. His trade value certainly hasn’t gone up the past year, especially with all the reports that he’s not having a good training camp. You would be lucky to get a 6th or 7th round pick for him. Teams will wait until he’s released and if he is, he may end up in the UFL.

Yea all you'd get is a 5th or something for him.

But it only takes one team to get an injury at QB or something.

We’re not going to get a 5th for him. If a team gets an injury, they would be better off using their backup QB than trading for Trey Lance. He hasn’t started a game in two years and he would have to learn a new system. It would take a lot of time to ramp him up and get him ready to start. There would be a better option available somewhere.

Your missing the point. If your backup QB is a veteran - like, say, Gardner Minshew, and you're taking, you might take a flier on Lance.

The point is to not use a "better" option because there is no point.

At this point, getting any kind of draft pick for Lance would be a miracle. If he has a good showing ps games, maybe. But after a year where the guy never played a down if meaningful football, it’s going to be hard to get a team willing to give anything for a guy headed for his third team in two seasons.

Gardner Minshew is a lot better than Trey Lance.
