Mr. Smith please... I really like that Watt guy but a stud LT is more valuable when you have a franchise QB to protect. IJS

For the Cowboys I take Smith, their strength is the line and if Romo was healthy (the irony) it would be more apparent.

Watt, as good as he still can't drag the Texans to the playoffs every year. Thats with breaking records, playing both sides of the ball, being a dote to his great grand mother and saving children from burning orphanages.

no matter how great a DL is he cannot have near the impact of a QB and the LT is the QBs bodyguard.
Not to mention there is a very good chance Tyron will have a longer career at a high level then Watt will.

12 of Watt's 20.5 sacks last year came against Tenn, Jacksonville and Indy.

5 of his 10.5 in 2013 came from the same division opponents. The same pattern holds true for 12 and 11.

Watt is a heck of a player but he has clearly statistically benefited from playing in a weak division. He routinely gets half his sacks per year in those six divisional games.

finish it--- I was GM !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :lmao2:

I wouldn't last. I'd try to go the Michael Corleone way and that stuff doesn't work so well in this day and age.
I'd take people with me though... Blood would be shed across the league.

Give me JJ Watt... I mean Tyron is such a good player, and he's also very young, but Romo is getting injured anyway... I think Romo could've helped make an average LT look good enough... JJ Watt is the best defensive player in the NFL, and has been for many seasons now, I think having him on our defense would be more beneficial to the team than Smith on offense... Maybe Ware would've also benefited from Watt's presence and they'd still be the most feared DE duo in the league... D Ware, Watt, and Lee on the same defense, yes please...

Even when everybody said we had the worst OL in football, Romo and the offense put up a decent amount of points... What our problem was and continues to be, is not being able to stop other good offenses...

And when Romo's gone and the parade of rookies/journeymen come in- who's going to protect the blind side when you also have Free leaking like a sieve on the right side?
They going to get David Carr'd? No chance? Both tackles are... what? Good? Garbage? Mmm...
Sorry. Yes Romo is getting injured, but you still have to maximize protection to the QB and also must build your most important unit- the offensive line.

It can not only control a game, but an entire season, with the right back and a good QB behind the helm.
Even with a piss-poor DL, as we had last off-season.

Sorry. I'm not convinced.
And I believe the 2nd most important unit is the DL, but the OL is even more important, if even by a thin margin.

Watt

He will moonwalk to the HOF. Smith might ultimately be a really good tackle in this league, but Watt is the best football player in the NFL disregarding position.

Smith is already a "pretty good tackle" in this league, a top 5 tackle.

The longevity of Watt's career is most likely far shorter than Smith's. Watt is at his peak right now, he's not going to get better; it's either he stays the same or slightly declines. I go with the latter; especially with him being a DE.

Tyron Smith is only 24 years old, and he's been in the league since 2011. He may not have even peaked yet, which is being overlooked in this thread. People saying that he's not a "Once in a generation" tackle, I honestly would like to see a tackle that has come out of college recently similar to Tyron Smith. He's strong as an ox, has an arm span that is 36 3/8 along with 11 inch hands. He went from playing RT in 2011 to being the best LT in the league in 2013.

So, I have absolutely no idea what some of you are talking about like Tyron Smith is some ordinary LT, he's not. He's a freak of nature, just like Watt and lot of players at their flashy positions.

jj watt. it's ok guys to admit it.

Yeah it would be.

If that's how a person felt.

I love Watt. I wouldn't hate it if we had him instead.

However given the choice I'm taking the elite level LT every time.

That's more important to our teams over all success because that LT is protecting the blind side of our most important piece.

If you think this way you will never draft an impact DL man. DL takes a pounding every game. It's just the nature of their position.

If Watts give me 8-10 yrs of 20 sacks, 5-8 forced fumbles, 1-2 ints........ You had me at "Watts".

Well yeah if you're telling me Watts is going to give you 8 or 10 twenty sack seasons then that's maybe something to really think about.

Remind me again how many D-Lineman have had 8 or 10 twenty sack seasons?

I <believe> Watt is the only player in the modern era, since they started counting sacks as an official statistic, to have more than 20 sack season more than once (he has 2 of them).

8 just isn't possible, but it wouldn't shock me if he had a couple more.

Would of been interesting.
Would we still be in a 3-4?

I'll still take Smith, but you can't go wrong with either. Luckily, both are all pro talents, so it's not like we took Ellis over Moss scenario again.
