Same here.

My first job while I was in high school was at Six Flags, working at Texas Barbecue, which was right next to the Texas Giant. After that, I worked at places like Braum's, McDonalds, Burger King and Little Ceasars. After that, I got a decent gig at a Telemarketing company but got fired from there when a very irate person told me to put them on the "do not call" list and instead, I chose to get back at them by choosing the "recall" option and I just happened to be being audited at time :lmao2: . That's the first and only time I have been fired and it was a very interesting experience.

After that, I worked for a short minute at Best Buy but ended up leaving to go to Blockbuster Video while in college and my last few years in college, I got a job at a Forensics Lab, intaking fire and soil samples. That was my last gig until I graduated from College.

Anywho, the point is sometimes you have to pay your dues and take what you can get when you have absolutely no marketable skills (like most teenagers).

This reminds me of when I was 19 and moved from what was once a little border town (Laredo) to big ole San Antonio. I 1st worked at Pizza Hut as a waiter, man that was fun. I threw myself a going away party and made a custom pizza for all that was on duty that day. Even made one for the manager. We were all sitting around laughing and then the manager said, "You know you're gonna have to pay for all these pizzas right?" I said yeah but never did..:D

From there I moved up to Olive Garden where they make the big tips, now that was fun. Got fired 3 months later but man it was fun...:D

Man I bet working at Chilis as a waiter would be fun for a young whipper snapper like yourself. Cash money everyday boy!!!

Not a bad idea, but most places I applied online.

So call and ask for the "hiring manager". Tell him you're calling about the job you applied for and would like to set up an interview.

I can see you being a host at Chili's, but if I were you I would just bus tables and make more busting your hump than you would sitting up there looking pretty. In a few months you could be a waiter making some good dough... but bus boys make pretty good too, so don't rule anything out.

That's where I would start if I were him. Most restaurants can be stuck up and only seriously consider experienced servers for their server positions. They say an average of 3 people compete for every open position. He might as well give himself a fighting chance. He probably has a better chance than an immigrant of getting a busser job.

Yep, just go in there and do your job and that's not a hard job to move up from.

I'm 20 and I'm a bartender at one of the nightclubs downtown Van. Work 3 days a week and make anywhere from 600-1000 bucks a week. Something to consider when you're older.

Another thing I've found is that applying online diminishes your chances of getting hired when compared to your chances of going inside the employers place of business if you can.

One other thing, you have to use more than one approach. I'd say make a resume' even though you don't have much work experience, if any... maybe something of a cover letter so you can play the numbers game and get it out there.

But it's also like the old saying, it's not what you know it's who you know. So if you know anyone who might be able to give you a reference, that's always a good thing. So think outside the box in that sense.

You get a per hour rate, I don't recall what it is. I'm not saying this would be true for you, but I know a guy who makes at least $100 a night busing tables. He could be waiting tables, but he doesn't want to hassle with the job duties of waiting tables. So for him it's an easy job and gives him extra money. Funny thing is, this guy is already rich and just does it for a steady income.

In most cases it's like triple the hourly rate servers get in some places. That's because they depend on tip money.

AND you get to receive a percentage of the waiter in your section's tips.

That is funny my last two jobs came from online in fact more and more companies are going to that route at least in the professional side they have. I also got my last two jobs with out knowing anyone at the company.

The Job market around there is brutal my sister Husbands been out of work for over a year he going to school now only so he is not looking right now. Another old HS buddy got back from Iraq and was having trouble around that area he found something but it took him a while and it is more a hold over job. Tight tight market and McLane just laid of a bunch of people this year which of course in Temple Texas.

Austin is a better chance a crappy drive but more jobs in Austin and Round Rock etc. Check Home depot they just built a large Technology center in Austin they annouced it in 2004 so they may have summer hire type jobs. Check with the temp agencies in Austin area.

So are you a Coppers Cove Bulldog
