Losing Beasley

Cobb and Beasley are a different style of player.

Cobb is built for bigger plays and has more run after catch abilities so his numbers should look better than Beasleys.

Beasley is much better at working small spaces and getting open quickly compared to Cobb but as a down the field threat Beasley can't touch Cobb.

Cobb can play all 3 WR positions. Beasley is limited to a slot guy that won't do much down field.

I think Beasley is better at what he does then Cobb but after you factor in the money that we paid then Cobb was obviously a better choice.

It's similar to Dak and Andy Dalton... Is Dak better? Sure.. But when you compare contracts vs what both provide there isn't a big enough difference in play to validate one over the other.

Beasley was just a poor fit for us.

Should be on a pass first offense where he can be a full time slot WR. Bad fit for a run/pass balance, as he can't block and isn't a threat deep, which is what you want from your WRs in run/pass balance - WRs who back defenders out of the box and off the LOS.

And no way should we have taken that contract. Good for Beasley cashing in. Good for Cobb too. Comp picks. Think win-win.

I'd say Beasley is the better player generally, but Cobb was probably better *for us*. And that's straight up ignoring the salary difference.

Beasely was a one trick pony. Cobb was better. The upgrade to lamb is logarithmic.

I'm looking around the league and I don't see a lot of teams desperate for a QB right now.

NFL offenses have become more simplistic. The spread offense has found it's way into the NFL and these guys have been running these offenses since highschool.

QB's are not this impossible thing to find anymore.

More QBs come to the NFL ready to play, *and* QBs last longer with more rules protecting them from being broken and medical advances fixing what breaks. Supply is up. Demand is the same.

At some point, some GM is going to figure out that top price QBs are poor value, and you should hire quality veterans for cheaper while looking for QBs in the draft to replace them.

Maybe some already have. Rivers, Brees, and Brady going for 25mil for a couple of years. Good deals. Only 25mil guaranteed to Brees. That's a *great* contract. Now find yourself a young QB.

And some team is going to put 120mil into a QB, he's going to break, and they'll be in cap hell for years to come. That's going to collapse the guaranteed money.

Exactly..

Are the Vikings that much better with Cousins over Case Keenum?

These slightly better than mediocre are all the same
And get similar results based on the teams situation.

With the Cowboys OL and offensive skill players they will be fine with a solid vet like Dalton while they find a rookie QB in the draft.

Loosing Measly Beasley got you Cee Dee Lamb! End of Discussion. Jerry is a player lover and not a good GM. If he signed Beasley, he was not going to be looking for a WR in the 2020 draft.

People just assume that there are really good QBs just out there. Truth is, it’s rare that good QBs...in the prime of the careers become available.

We found a really good QB in a 4th round pick. The Eagles found the SB MVP on their bench. NO found Bridgewater on their bench and he went 5-0.

It's a team game. I wonder how many "bad" QBs would look pretty good running our offense.

We weren't looking that hard for Lamb - he fell in our laps. I still think we pick Lamb even if we had Beasley or Cobb resigned. Jerry luvs him sum deals. He took Jaylon when there was a good chance he'd never play again, because Top Ten Player.

......add to the fact that Cobb had 2 or 3 TD's negated by penalties.

Many here rued the day we lost Beasles.

He was a fan favorite and I personally enjoyed rooting for him. That said, we weren't going to pay him.

Here's a look at his season, along with his replacements season. I think we made a smart move.

BEASE: 4 years 29 million
REC 67
YDS 778
AVG 11.6
TDS 6

COBB: 1 year 5 million
REC 55
YDS 828
AVG 15.1
TDS 3

My apologies if this has already been posted. Beasley was a different type of player for us and you could still argue we missed him at points last season. I predicted Cobb would top Beasleys best season in Dallas and he certainly came close. In the same tone of optimism I think CD tops both of them this year. It should be fun to watch. Dak has no choice but to blow up with the weapons he has been provided.

Beasley was a joke.

I’ve watched Dalton plenty..

He is fine.. He actually has a back shoulder throw in his tool box too unlike Dak.

Dalton is better than DAK and these Dak lovers are in denial big time concerning the Dalton signing and the message it sends.
Oh well, let them wait for the moment Dak is benched during one of his inept performances.
It won't take long this is guaranteed!!!:omg:

Well does he get his big pay day and does that cost them the ability to make moves elsewhere?

Cousins has had a lot of chances to win a Superbowl and has nothing to show for it. He's just not a guy that moves the needle. He's a jaggy player. Another Alex Smith type.

Go find Pat Mahomes and pay him.

Don't pay these jaggy guys because you can replace them with some other jaggy player like Dalton, Tannehill, or whoever.

Cousins is not winning anything without a great team around him.. Well Tannehill could do the same thing.

Go find Pat Mahomes? Really? You understand that’s like saying “Go find the winning lottery ticket. Don’t waste money on the other tickets”, right?

Finding Pat Mahomes can never be the strategy. He is a once in a generation talent.

Beasley IMO was just another weapon in the offense that contributed to us being too predictable.

Hard to stop one on one but easy to bracket with LB’s and when the TE was too slow to stretch the field that was a problem.

Exactly..

Are the Vikings that much better with Cousins over Case Keenum?

Yes, yes they are, because Case Keenum has not shown the ability to produce like he did in 2017. Some average/below average players, like Keenum, Foles, who ever you want to use have a spike in productivity that usually doesn't last more than a season or two. And Cousins has been better than Keenum was even in that season and significantly better in subsequent seasons.

Bease who? Keep an eye on our new #88, and come back and tell me how we miss Bease so much.

while I agree with most of your points in this subject as they reflect my own,

however Cousins and Tannehill are making 30 per year, teams keep paying guys like this that make Dak and hos agent feel they are worth more even if its untrue..the market gets continually raised as dumb owners cant see what a lot of us see. I mean when a Jacoby Brisett can money grab out of a desperate owner seeing Luck suddenly retire, its a problem. they are scared of change if change might bring worse results vs having a shot so they over pay average qbs because they dont want to eb where say Washington is after lettings go of cousins and cant yet replace him..Jerry is doing well so far in not caving to daks demands but in the final hour July 15th will he be scared to have another 2015 or the years of Romo hurt or post Aikman where you end up losing because of the QB position?

the owners have shot tom reverse this market trend of QBs but who going to do it?

at least some owners like in TB decided to not retain Winston, Tribusky on the way out, Mariota gone, and we sit in silar situation with dak but Jones are scared..they might cave

I view the Bease situation as a win win for all parties. BUF really like what Cole brings to their team, and gives Allen an early option. Meanwhile in DAL since they let Beasley go things have been awesome.

1. Turn Bease into a 5th round comp pick.
2. Upgrade at Slot (Cobb) to a vertical threat.
3. Turn Cobb into 5th round comp pick.
4. Upgrade at Slot (Lamb) to a #1 WR.
5. The cost at Slot has been cheaper for a better player two years straight and has added draft picks.

Fan favorite? The same guy that threw teammates under the bus and got into Twitter wars with fans and would swear at them? The same guy who seemed more focused on his brand than the team? Other than the Ewok, there’s not a player I couldn’t wait to see go. Good riddance.

Plus Cobb was 2 Million dollars cheaper in terms of 2020 cap hit.
To me is was about money
I liked Beasley but it’s always an advantage to churn players for cheaper, younger players when you can get the quality
