Just listened to Stephen Jones radio interview. He was asked what happens if they have to replace Rico Dowdle and the only name he mentioned was Malik Davis. That gives you an idea of what the team thinks of Vaughn. I’m not trying to knock the guy but all he’s getting is mop up carries in blowouts.
Of course it will be Davis.

No chance they consider Vaughn as Pollards backup. Not at the start of the season. Not now. Not ever.

Dowdle was also on special teams because Vaughn can't. So our backup RBs are required to play special teams so our gadget back can sit back and watch the game with sideline seats.

And here we go again........................

Oh My God a 6th round rookie 3rd stringer doesn't have 100 yard rushing game yet or scored 3 TD's!!!!!!!!!!!
Why do you have to exaggerate to make your point.?
Who said he needs that to contribute?

He probably needs better designed plays for his skill....but maybe a 6th round 3rd string undersized rookie from nepotism isn't what we need right now.

The problem is the Cowboys and a lot of the fans refuse to look at Vaughn as a gadget back. He can’t block or run between the tackles effectively and is being used mostly for mop up duty. If he’s not worth the risk of giving him meaningful carries when games are still in the balance then he shouldn’t be holding down a roster spot.

Luepke has the size to be the bruiser, and let Pollard and Dowdle be the change of pace back. I don't think Pollard is an every down back, based on what I've been seeing. Duece needs some type of opening to be effective.

I'll give you the fan part, but I honestly think MM was told that Vaughn would be on this roster. He was handed a spot.

And now MM is in a binde. Jethro is probably in his ear telling him to give Vaughn some looks. Then he does and the offense goes off the rails or he gets his QB killed.

If he was any good, he'd play. It's not like Dowdle is some world beater. And it will be even more infuriating when they bring up Davis to replace Dowdle and leave Vaughn on the roster.

We all know one of the main reasons Vaughn is on the roster. His father is a scout for the team, which prompted us to draft him. I think Jerry made up his mind on draft day that they were going to give him a chance this season. McCarthy was asked during a press conference this summer if Vaughn was going to be a gadget guy. He said he didn’t see him as a gadget guy. Nothing they’re doing with him makes any sense. He’s not being utilized to the best of his abilities, and is getting mostly mop up carries.

First off, I think they have been using Pollard too much. He doesn't look as explosive as years past. Bummer that Dowdle was hurt, he looks real good, but to be honest, his problem in the past has been staying healthy. Vaughn yesterday was brought in to kill the clock, runs up the middle where he was met yards behind the line of scrimmage and after we lost Martin.
Look I'm a Cowboys fan, not a player fan. Vaughn put up big numbers against some big name defenses in colleges. Having said that, if he can't cut the mustard, well then bye. To be honest, I wish it was Hunter getting those carries up the middle when we were killing the clock, I can't fathom why it was Vaughn?
That's my biggest question? Why not swing Vaughn out for some passes or run him wide...And why not use Hunter to pound it? It's like the coaches are in opposite world?

Dallas definitely needs to bring in another RB, a bruiser preferably for this next month. Deuce shouldn’t be getting any carries up the middle.
..the guy is just to small for that butcher job. Deuce probably weighs 160?, or less.

Avg NFL player is around 220lb. Deuce will bounce like a pinball out there.

MM has to smarten up, Deuce is gadget player.

Duce will be fine. He should be part of our 3rd down packages but o line breakdowns #71 destroy the play from the get go. I predict Duce will have an impact at SF. It's difficult to do screen passes when the o line is not in sync.

I think he looks good running.

1 thing zeke did for pollard besides wearing the defense down some, was offer a speed difference

Some guys misjudge angles because of not adjusting right away to speed changes, and it makes it easier to pop big runs and use speed

First of all, whatever happened to a hot read to combat a free rusher?

Deuce n Luepke need time to find their role it's still early. Luepke may be closer to having a role, but with Rico nicked up Deuce may get to audition for his role vs the 49ers.

If Jerry told MM that Vaughn was going to be on the roster, regardless, you think he's really going to be honest?

And what exactly are his best abilities? He hasn't shown the speed that everyone was clamoring about. He looks exactly like a 4.56 guy. He looks to bounce instead of planting and driving. Hard to blame him since he gets killed inside. He can't pass block.

So what? Get him in space. That's all I read. As I've said a hundred times, when you have a guy that can't run 90% of the offense or the OC has to create new gadget plays just to get him on the field, then you are keying your offense.

Hey look, vaughns in. Blitz and cover the boundary. Take away this magical space y'all think we can manufacture for him. Oh, what about screens? We aren't a screen team. Most teams aren't. Defenses are quick to recognize. And being proficient at running screens takes a lot of practice. And again, defending the screen is similar to defending the edge.

And let's just forget about lining him up at WR. He has no catch radius. No way they want to risk a high ball to him that gets tipped for an int.

Best place for him is the PS to see if he can develop into a returner.

Jerry has complete control of the roster. I’m sure it was made pretty clear when Vaughn was drafted that he was going to be given a chance on the roster this season. Two big deal was made drafting him for him not to make the team. Jerry figured with Zeke gone they could make it work. The plan was to keep several backs. I don’t think they had any intention of going forward with Ronald Jones.

Yes. And exactly why Jerry is an idiot and we haven't won anything in 28 years.

Its impossible to compare because they're 2 totally different runners. Luepke is the better short yardage guy more than likely and is used primarily in heavy run packages with + catching ability. Vaughn is your versatile open space guy where you design screens or gadget plays for.
