Stephen may actually have to buckle down and pay or draft a highly rated mlb now. He always knew he could get Lve on a cheap deal because he had the neck injury lingering.
Three ways to go with linebackers if you don’t have the obvious high first round pick:
- Try to get a bunch of mini-Zach Thomas types. Drop in draft because of size but are ballers. (See Dexter Coakley, Dat Nguyen, etc)
- Try to get big, solid physical types that eventually become steady eddys. (See Randall Godfrey, Kevin Burnett, Bradie James, etc)
- Try to gamble and get former high first round talent with injury questions who drops (See Sean Lee, LVE, Jaylon Smith, etc)
The joke was when Jerry first took over the team, he would never re-sign a linebacker, and that any fast LB could be plugged behind our defensive line. Almost budged on Randall Godfrey, and then blew everyone away when he re-signed Dexter Coakley. But he hasn’t changed, still doesn’t value the position, just trying to wildcat the position more often.
