Stephen may actually have to buckle down and pay or draft a highly rated mlb now. He always knew he could get Lve on a cheap deal because he had the neck injury lingering.

Three ways to go with linebackers if you don’t have the obvious high first round pick:
  1. Try to get a bunch of mini-Zach Thomas types. Drop in draft because of size but are ballers. (See Dexter Coakley, Dat Nguyen, etc)
  2. Try to get big, solid physical types that eventually become steady eddys. (See Randall Godfrey, Kevin Burnett, Bradie James, etc)
  3. Try to gamble and get former high first round talent with injury questions who drops (See Sean Lee, LVE, Jaylon Smith, etc)
Cowboys have gone with option 3 last several years, and not sure it’s paying off. Struggling too with our newest talented - but injured often - Overshown.

The joke was when Jerry first took over the team, he would never re-sign a linebacker, and that any fast LB could be plugged behind our defensive line. Almost budged on Randall Godfrey, and then blew everyone away when he re-signed Dexter Coakley. But he hasn’t changed, still doesn’t value the position, just trying to wildcat the position more often.

Could even add Clark to 3 / 2nd round potential.

BTW, a little bit off-topic, but I caught this fan made video the other day and I think it’s a great take on linebackers. It’s about Jimmy‘s defensive philosophies which I think have been a big influence on how the Cowboys have looked at the position since. Been while since I‘ve seen something that reminded me how good Ken Norton was before they decided not to pay for him. I know that wasn’t a Jimmy pick, but the video maker shows some of his unheralded plays in 92 Playoffs that started the dynasty.

Sad for the player who was a hard worker and one of the leaders of this team. However, I think Quinn has found his new Deion Jones in Bell, add in Overshown return next season, time to go with youth

Color me shocked. This went from an x-ray report of no structural damage to surgery and his career may be over in about a month. That only happens in Dallas.

The Cowboys had to know a lot more about LVE's injuries than they have said. This is why his contract is so small and short. I like the player, although he has limitations, but something tells me LVE and the Cowboys knew this day was coming.

Fred and now LVE lost due to genetic disorders. Obviously different cases but both end with productive former first round picks being forced off the roster prematurely.

LB is the clear target in round 1 now. Supersedes our need at OL imo. Take an OT in round 2…..

LVE has been playing on borrowed time forever, and has done a lot for the team. At this point, however, he'd probably be wise to retire and enjoy the next phases of family & professional life in relative good health.
not that internet points mean anything. but it's wild to me that this has less likes than "career over. move on." crazy

Ahh man sucks for that guy. When these careers end prematurely....really hurts to see. I still remember James Hanna, Devonte Holloman.....LVE is probably one of the biggest WHAT IF's.....I'd probably say ultimately he paid off his 1st round draft status. He lasted some years.....but he was on pace to be a great.

Good. I like him as a player but worry about his safety. I don't want to see him seriously hurt himself.

Could be, but I think it really depends on how your young guys develop the second half of this year and honestly who the DC is next season. I have to believe the DQ as a HC candidate chatter will start up soon and who knows if he wants to roll the dice there if McCarthy's job looks safe going into the offseason.

Yup. This still angers me. He is balling to.

Some here said he wasnt good anymore. Disregarding his all-pro season last year lol
A lot of posters discriminate on the player’s age once they hit 30 no matter how they did the year before.

The reality is that the Cowboys have a gm that would undervalue the worth of players hoping that they will accept so they can generate a bigger profit with their name.
