Ridley has never been an average athlete. He's a much faster version of Gallup.
I'll disagree about his athleticism.
Ridley to me was just more polished but his athleticism and small frame were questionable to me.
He just possessed a lot of skill coming out of Bama as a 24 year old college guy.
Antonio Brown was a 6th-round pick.
Gallup could end up being better than Ridley in the end. Happens all the time.
Most 1st-round receivers are colossal busts.
Ridley ran a 4.43 40. Thats not average. Cooper ran a 4.42 for comparison.
Gallup ran a 4.51 which is why he went in round 3.
Yeah but Ridley is running a 4.4 in a 180 pound body vs Gallup running a low 4.5 in a 205 pound body.
Also, Ridley has a 31 inch vertical and Gallup has a 36 inch vertical and vertical is as good of a measurement for explosion as a 40 time if not better.
And LVE ran a 4.65 and had a 39.5 inch vertical jump, at 6-4 and 256 pounds. He crushed the rest of his workout too and was classified as a combine freak.

That's what got him in the first round.
LVE had incredible production. Like 140 tackles or something like that.
If LVE had similar production with those combine numbers and played at Alabama then the Cowboys have no chance of drafting him.
That is why you can't ignore upside and just base what type of player a guy will be because of what they were or where they played in college.
This is looking like getting Demarcus Ware from Troy all over again.

In no universe is Michael Gallep considered a better athlete or a more polished WR coming out of college. If you weren't a cowboy fan, this would be a ludicrous discussion. In no other team fan web sites is Gallup vs Ridley a topic of discussion. Its Ridley hands down before the draft and Ridley by a country mile so far in the NFL.
Better athlete is debatable. More polished receiver is not. Ridley at 24 years old is definitely more polished coming out of Alabama.
I was having this debate about Ridley before he ever stepped foot into the NFL.
You can debate Ridley all by himself, but nobody had Gallup ahead of him........and thats not b/c Gallup has a superior upside and more athletic ability.
Ridley is faster, but Gallup is better in every other aspect.I didn't have Gallup ahead of him at the time either.
I just hated Ridley in the 1st when I could get someone later on with potentially more upside.
Ridley wasn't talented enough IMO to validate using a 1st rounder and watching him I don't see anything that special physically and with Gallup I do.
Ridley still is a more skilled player at this point but Gallups production would be as good if not better if the Cowboys QB could throw him the ball and Gallup looks like he has more upside then Ridley from a physical standpoint.
I would take Courtland Sutton over Ridley right now.
Ridley is faster and was more NFL ready, no doubt about that.4.4 in a 190 lb body is still getting down the field and open a lot faster than a bigger guy running slower. Your not making the case here. If you weren't a cowboy fan, this would be a ludicrous discussion. In no other team fan web sites is Gallup vs Ridley a topic of discussion. Its Ridley hands down before the draft and Ridley by a country mile so far in the NFL.
Ridley is faster, but Gallup is better in every other aspect.
Ridley will most likely get pushed around quite a bit. I'm not certain he'll be able to get off the line and/or beat the jam.I'll give Ridley the speed. He's maybe a step faster but it's not like Gallup isn't running by guys.
Ridley is about as good as it gets as far as routes but when Gallup gets better at routes where does that leave the 2 because I see Gallup as physically superior.
