He is still getting down the basics that most tackles have in place before they hit the NFL
he was ALWAYS a developmental pick and should never have been expected to start right away
He needs to show substantial progress this year
it is clear that physically he has the tools; something Thomas never had so there was no real competition

The Smith, Martin, FredBeard, and Smith (Booker still TBD imo) success stories of the oline by the scouts/evaluators were due an eventually letdown.

100% true. And w/ raw/developmental players, that is around year 3/4. Sometimes longer if injuriews interfere.

Guyton actually played well for a few games before getting hurt again.

Guyton's issue has always pretty much been a lack of reps to make fundamentals routine. When he loses, he's just thinking and slow.

He has to stay healthy.

He’s not going to be asking for anything. The fifth year option is set by the league.

He only played LT for one year I believe. He was raw and gonna need plenty of time to develop. Maybe he will and maybe he won’t but his story isn’t written yet.

See, this is my main concern with him. I have no problem with the fact that the guy came into the league raw and needing reps.

What I do have an issue with is that, knowing he needs every snap he can get, he just doesn’t seem to be able or willing to play through injury. The guy gets a bit of pain or discomfort, and he’s out.

A ‘sore elbow’ on Day 2 of padded practice, when there are rumours of him losing his place to a guard? Come on, man…

The most important ability is availability.

A player can have all the physical traits in the world, but without toughness, they aren’t going to count for much. He badly needs to develop a bit of grit - just every bit as much as (if not more than) his technique.

There’s a phrase we sometimes use in these parts: ‘all the gear and no idea’. I hope that isn’t true of Guyton.
