Making or Keeping Cowboys Fans Happy

Uh, that's a joke. Until Ray Sherman was released by the team (for lack of a better description of his dismissal) no one wanted him gone. I've been a little shocked by people who suddenly dislike him. I still respect him very much and am shocked by the move. I did not see anyone calling for his release and being called a whiner. Not one person.

Thats the point. Apolo says we wont do better than Sherman and he gets criticized. If in the past he had said we should look to upgrade form Sherman hed get criticized

Its obvious who the trolls are and who are the people whos bummed about the team and still discuss things intelligently.

No need to combine the two groups.

Yeah I get that, for sure. I think the real tightrope is allowing some newer members or maybe members who don't post a lot post negatively without labeling them that way. That's not at you, that's in general. I'm sure it'd be easy to say it about a lot of posters who come across as negative and maybe are just voicing their opinion. I'm not really up to speed on every person who does nothing but post negatively but I know a few.

I'll admit, sometimes I expect the worst and vocalize it. I'm sure I've done it in game day threads before. Like as soon as something happens I just felt like it would or I expect the worst. That's probably the fault of my thinking process more than anything directly related to the Cowboys. But I definitely try and see the positives, at all times. I'm happy about the Garrett hiring, even if I've been critical in the past. I'm just glad the team is going in a new direction. I'm sure some fans aren't even pleased by a new direction.
Hey look, no one on this forum can tell me that when we get an illegal procedure call they don't say out loud to the TV, "here we go again."

I do not believe that.

Vocalizing our negative feelings is fine. That isn't what this is about. I have no problem with anyone's negative feelings about this team.

I also believe there is a huge freaking difference between frustration and purposely being a provocateur to get negative reactions so that a victim card can be played and trust me that card gets played all the freaking time by that side. That is the "realism."

Pretty sure he got criticized for making that claim before we've even hired a replacement.

Ultimately I do not care. I liked Ray Sherman and still do. I hope we find a good WR coach, but I am not about to say we cannot do better. That is ridiculous. If you speak in absolutes you will always get called on it.

That's the real world.

Yeah I see. I guess it's the way of the internet. I don't even look at things over the internet as true discussions. People sometimes act completely different online and a lot of what people say has to be taken with a grain of salt. You can't use body language at all and so much gets added to and lost through text. It's a fragile thing.

I reserve the right to call out the OC if he doesn't 100% of the calls right according to ME!

My guess is if this post had come from anyone other than Hos it wouldn't have been seen as anything but humor

I think it is easy to be “fake” online. Easy to create an image you want others to admire or see as honorable. Many of these so called “positive people” are extremely fake. Read a number of their posts and you can see they reek of negativity and hate. It may not be directed towards the team but it does have a target. Freedom of speech has always been under attack. Since the beginning of time. Many people hate that you do not think like they do, believe like they do, poop like they do. I believe everyone has a right to believe what they want, good or bad.

What i find funny is when i see a post from a regular member, i already know what is going to be said. You already know which side they will line up. Which view point is “spot on”, lol. Sometimes the predictability of it all is annoying. It is what it is.

I think I have finally figured this out. All the Cowboys need to do to make and/or keep the fans happy is the following.

1. Win every game by covering the point spreads no matter how big.

2. Hire only the best coaches and have them committed to this team with no desire to become a Head Coach or Coordinator somewhere else and still not a be a puppet to the GM somehow.

3. Draft Pro Bowl caliber players in every round and somehow manage to keep all of them despite future drafts where we acquire more Pro Bowl caliber players, Free Agency, and a salary cap.

4. If we somehow miss on a Pro Bowl draft pick, trade him to someone else for their Pro Bowl player who will play here for less money because when we fart little rainbows fly out of our bum.

5. Win every Super Bowl.

I am quite fond of saying "learn the game." I think I finally have. This is fun.

My wish is much simpler.

Have a winning season on a regular basis, don't go years without making the playoffs.

Win a Super Bowl every now and then. Not EVERY SB.

In other words, be more like the teams from the 70's.

Like the phrase says... Winning takes care of everything.

Simple as that. :D

While I understand and generally agree with your point, this kind of hyperbole is probably best saved for a time when we are having something resembling success and people are still whining (which they would be, don't get me wrong). We've won one playoff game in 15 years, havent advanced past the divisional round in 16 years, havent won a SB in 16 years, and havent won a road playoff game in 18 years. A certain amount of dissent is to be expected.

Yeah you just better start sniffin' your own rank subjugation jack 'cause it's just you against your tattered libido, the bank and the mortician forever man, and it wouldn't be luck if you could get out of life alive.

Sure, a certain amount of dissent is to be expected, but when is enough enough?

We won a playoff game last year.
We haven't advanced past divisional round in 16 years, but we have advanced to to that point twice in the last four years. Do you know how many teams have accomplished that?
We were one of only three teams to post 5 straight winning seasons from 2005-2009.

Is that good enough? Not for me. But it's progress. It beats the hell out of what we did from 1997-2004.

2010 sucked! But when I discuss the failings of 2010, I see no point in lumping them in with the failings of 1997-2004.

I hope that he doesn't. This thread may completely derail, but hopefully not into a Dylan/Guns-n-Roses philosophical debate.

There's nothing at all 'fake' about being positive about a football team and negative about an opinion you think is unfounded held by someone you think is not capable of serious critical thought.

Every fan wants their team to win, no fans like it when they don't. They want the best coaches, best players, great drafts and Super Bowl Championships. Your over simplistic list is actually insulting to all fans, not just the ones you hope to poke fun at.

The problem with this Franchise stems from one person and one person only. The way to make Cowboys fans happy is simple. Jerry Jones needs to step down as GM, or die whichever comes first.

Stephen Jones, Tom Ciskowski, and Todd Williams. Now throw in Garrett.

You are such a homer. They could be Moe, Larry, Curly and Shemp and you would be like Oh Hells YEAH!!!

Nice. Very nice.

What a lame opening post. Is this a preemptive strike against Cowboy fans to protect his boy Garrett now that he is head coach? Is this a way to reduce the expectations since his puppy Garrett is the head coach now? We wouldn't want Garrett under pressure to win superbowls, now, would we?

Let's all just be happy that Garrett is the head coach and the team is somewhat competitive. Doesn't matter about winning and losing. Just enjoy the game. Garrett is the coach. Nothing is his fault. Don't worry, you can still blame it on Wade for the next two years if everything goes bad.
